1) First thing first, go and block SBS Sv 3's bus stop... I wonder where are the passengers from the MRT going to board the bus
2) No inspectors at air show side, end up SOC (Ang chia) ppl takeover become bus inspectors aft situation went amok.. Even those higher officers ended up appeared at the scene
3) Lack of singages. Only 1 pathetic notice "Pasir Ris Interchange... Freq: 15 mins" other than the only arrow marking nearer to Taxi stand
4) Speeding buses @ 70kph... The bus I was on had this habit of speeding and swaying in and out of lanes to avoid braking (Should jolly well not speed when you know it's not safe to brake hard w/ packed load!) when approaching junctions tat just turned green. Wanna vomit sitting at the attached end
Air Show organisers built a big park yet coach area cramped like siao... City Hall, Expo, Mandrain Hotel & Pasir Ris shuttle cramped into 1 small area
The Airshow authorities should have considered SBST to handle the shuttle services instead of SMRT, since SMRT cannot do their job well and screw up the whole situation like speeding and blocking up the lanes. SMRT should look into this situation and take actions accordingly. 2 years ago situations were ok when SBST handled the shuttle services.
Btw today tried to call up the SMRT hotline to feedback about the bus services, even their mailbox is full...

Cos different airshow organizer, the original airshow organizer now holds Asian Aerospace at Asia-World Expo in HK. Maybe last time the government left everything to Reed Exhibitions and dint care about everything else, now Reed Exhibitions brought its expertise over to Hong Kong.
I went to the Singapore Airshow today. Situation still looked like the same as yesterday. I'll elaborate on the getting-out-of-site part since that is the worst part where so many people are getting out of CEC.
1. The snaking queues started from the entrance of the main exhibition hall onwards, going towards south before U-turning back towards north and into the shelter. It took me an hour just to get onto the shuttle bus.
2. Most of the show visitors wanted a cheaper way of getting home, thus queues for the Pasir Ris MRT Shuttle was ultimately long. Even with more than hundred bendies deployed, the queue is still long.
3. The pick-up point for the Pasir Ris MRT shuttle can only allow boarding for one bus. Why not two? Why did SMRT and the organising committee not kill two birds with one stone?
4 The Expo MRT Shuttle saw fewer people because it costed more. I was one of them who took that bus back.
(And the damn thing is that TIB 0479K came before TIB 0465A. I wanted to take TIB 0465A since it's someone's favourite bus. But I was forced onto TIB 0479K instead.
.)
5 At the time when we were about to leave, a millitary plane was being towed, hence resulting in a major pile-up at the bus bay and delays. The organisers seem to have quite poor planning again.
But again, such events are unpredictable. The organiser should improve the situation in the case for the next Singapore Airshow - coming up in 2010.
I only want to say that the title of the thread sounds very wrong ![]()
"Air show disaster"

The total number of buses deployed was 80. It never hit the 100 mark.

The plane towing is to CAB East
Anyway signs are alrdy placed to expect delay when this goes on
OMG,Wonder why sbst275 very keen on SMRT Bus operations when they cannot make it on every ocassion compared to SBST?They're alrdy fucked up why still need to create one topic for this?Isn't it redundant?FYI i'm now working with SATS apron and baggage dept.Sometimes my job required me to drive tow tug truck that pull aircraft, skyloader truck for baggage lift, tractor to tow baggage trailers and sometimes apron buses like those Vanhools.I left SMRT cause of the poor management.

At the expense of screwing up of svc 980 n other bus svcs yesterday ![]()
Dun just put the blame on SMRT for the poor crowd control. I was there on Saturday morning at Pasir Ris MRT stn and also at airshow. I witnessed how we Singaporeans behave.
Super senior staff at pasir ris stn doing nothing.
Inspector and fellow colleague smoking at the CEC bus waiting area instead of crowd control.
Many MIB doing nothing. All super blur and sotong and doesnt knw how to react when hunfreds of people running and chasing to get onto the bus. Including a officer ( 2 craps on his shoulders, simi ranking huh?)
FT Indian Mata SGT shouting at people who are in the proper waiting area.
Bus captain who didnt follow proper instructions and let people board the bus at the alighting stop instead of boarding area.
Everyone to be blame.
Most important: SINGAPOREANS.
Why I say this? Because of KIASU. KIASI.

this time round is dua taiji alrdy... It's a International Event and this kind of crap would happen... In other countries, the boss would take responsibility... Even Air Show boss Mr Jimmy Lau (One of SG Avitation lao jiaos) had to appear to the media and apologise for the whole thing
do you know there was lots of tourist there? Uniquely Singapore!
Why?
B'cos the Shuttle Service is "FREE"... ![]()
Singaporean will DIE DIE will use FREE Service... ![]()

At Air Show side, Singapore Air Show fellows gave a small cramped coach area... Barricades was never seen until 2nd day (Pic seen on ST)
No inspectors for crowd control... Tat day aft abt 2pm everything went amok cos like no one other, ppl also dun bother... End up ang chia fellows take over
and dun come and blame MIB... It's SMRT's job as the operator for crowd control, be glad mata alrdy takeover else the mess would have been worst.. SOC ppl have their job to patrol the site
Although really, there was 1 classic drama tat occured.. 1 lady crying over spilled milk why later place those police tape and later insist to let them board 1st... be lucky tat they dun want to detain her, ask her jolly well just move with the human traffic flow (By then 2 queues were made)

When the mess started, Expo Sv dun have proper boarding area... I suspect no one even cared where it goes

Eh, means I not Singaporean?
Cos I dint use the free shuttle bus from Pasir Ris to Changi on the way to the airshow.
Shld have let SBST handled the shuttle service.
- They can easily pump in more buses than the crowd needs (take AA2004 AA2006 Army Open House for example).
- Proper boarding and alighting berths available for use @ Pasir Ris Interchange.
Whats the use of having bendies when it leaves the site with only full seating capacity ?? Might as well get a DD to do the job.
If SBST were to be in-charge of the shuttle services, we would have DDs doing the PSR Route and (Maybe?) K230s on the Expo route.

If there were proper boarding and alighting berths, proper queues being formed at PSR Ctrl. Do you think ppl would behave this way ?
If the buses were able to handle the load effectively, would ppl behave this way ?
Think about it. Many ppl complaint about the taxis jamming up the road at the site. If the Shuttle buses were able to clear the load at PSR (Or even EXPO), will ppl choose to take taxis ???
AA2004 and AA2006 didnt have shuttle bus problems. Queue was short and buses arriving within seconds of the bus departed. Why did SIngapore AirShow 2008 have the problem ? You claimed that it was all due to how Singaporeans behave.. Am i ask, how come we dont have this problem in the past ??
There was indeed more people this year.
Originally posted by chickenlittle2:There was indeed more people this year.
But significantly less people handling the situation.
A DD with full seating already can seat more people than a bendy with full seating.
SBST also allowed standing, means they can actually clear the loads faster, SMRT restricted standing on the first day.
I saw several times when two bendies were side by side at 60km/h plus along Loyang Avenue while I was travelling opposite direction towards Changi Village...
Not quite the place to race with full load...

This is what what happens when they tried to squeeze the most out of it.
The Volgren Bendy which i was on was also speeding.
But one could hear that the engine was kinda "Stress" out.
