I guess this is going to be a new trend.... If not keep waiting for the next and the subsequent endless bus with poor frequency isn't the way out....
Got to be the new trend haha...
How to board when front is totally packed and people are like, dun want to move to the back and, urgh, the BC dun care sometimes... :(
ever did it bef.. tap at entrance, go to the back and board
you dun wanna move in, i move in
Once or twice yeah...
Most of the time its free ride...

Sometimes yes... But even if the driver never does that, and I know that that particular service (For example Service 960) has a very poor frequency, I will just go in through the middle door no matter what... Whatever the driver scold or told me, I will just express my unhappiness feeling that we will not want to wait any longer for the next bus, for that next bus will have the same cycle as well... I don't think the driver wants to call OCC or what, to delay other people's time just because of that. Everyone wants to go home don't they?! How will the driver feels when he/she puts himself/herself to our dear poor commuters' shoes?!

Just last Monday, I encountered a similiar situation at night on SBS2795C of Service 27 which I just went in through the exit door without hestitation and dashed all the way to the front to tap my card at Tampines towards Hougang, with ample space for me to walk through from the exit to the entrance door area when the commuters DIDN'T WANT to MOVE to the REAR... And somehow my conversation with the BC later on in Chinese was as follow:
Me: you all cannot just set the ez-link reader to allow people to board from the back?
BC (driver) of SBS2795C: we cannot anyhow do that cos sbs transit say only during breakdown or what then can like tat (but in the end i still went in without hestitation)
Me:
because in front people dun wan to move to the back sometimes, then
very unfair for those people outside the bus who wanna board it when
the back is quite empty or not packed
BC (driver) of SBS2795C: bo bian.. this is company say one... cannot anyhow one...
Me: sometimes the head of company (sbs transit) must use their brain and think ma.. cannot just allow this thing to happen and just let it be like that..
BC
(driver) of SBS2795C: because got the CCTV in the bus so cannot
anyhow... if the sbs transit staff found out about it, we the drivers
will be questioned with lots of questions..
Me: 0o0o okay..
all the policies la
actually is can... but also you gotta think, some ppl would also chao kuan, take opportunity to evade fares

But in the case of such poor frequency, and that their buses are always jam packed at the entrance door, and that driver really don't want to care so much about asking people to move to the back, it's really time for us to tweak our brains, be flexible and do something else... We cannot just let this cycle goes on and on, and have more commuters suffer just because of that..
And talking about evade fares, this is what the bus companies deserve if they provide bus services with lousy frequency when the demand is high... They themselves as the 2 main public transport operators (especially SMRT Buses), should really wake up their ideas when they have caused a lot of inconvenience and unhappiness among their fellow commuters when they want to encourage people to take public transport... Be flexible with their ideas if their commuters don't want to do something about it, such as the simple courtesy of moving towards the rear of the bus especially when the bus is fully packed with commuters..

Of course I will not do that on all buses that are like that.. I also don't want to make myself look bad in front of the people that I know in public... That's why for now I only do it on Service 960 because by the time it reached Whitley Rd bus stop, the front portion of the bus will be filled with Indians, and I do not know them!
Services such as 187, 963 and 966 when I took it to Republic Poly everyday, I try my very best not to do that...
I have seen people boarding from the exit door on svc 58 around bedok reservoir in the direction towards bishan in the mornings (around 7-8am). The bus driver was too busy with the people boarding at the front trying to board and the fact that the people standing blocking their view to notice it. ![]()
I can say that it is pretty common for services like 190 960 941 173.
Some SLs will activate the Exit EzLink (provided that they know how to do it) while some others just heck care.
I don't take bus anymore so I won't know but I heard my wife telling me the other day, at my place's bus stop ( Hougang ) there is this China lady always board from back door. Once in the bus she move back further, Never tap ezlink card at all. One time, got one BC beoh very long leow and don't move the bus till she go to the front to tap. - to the frastraction of everyone else in the bus lor ...

Little India duiring Weekends night especially bendies. Most SMRT SLs just close one eye unlike some SBST BCs who are on the ball.....
there are some every-day chances
eg. WAB, 160, 170 ![]()
OT: that indian driver on 119 is super on the ball.. lots of ppl squeezing up the entrance he still stop me from going up cos i was holding a pepsi bottle....
In Beijing here, though the frequency is much better than singapore for quite a large number of routes, packed bus still occur, sometimes because people do not want to move in too. Most buses in beijing have a conductor on board so they will shout and shout fiercely for people to move in. Although most buses do not allow boarding from the back door, some people will just squeeze in from the backdoor. Some of their NON WAB buses have lesser seats than our scania k230s also. Evading fare is not really an issue here as some conductors dont care when the bus is crowded and there are hundreds of ways to cheat fare, ranging from an adult using a student concession card (paying SGD 4 cents per 12km or less trip) and not tapping their card when they board for certain service where the driver is at the front door and the conductor is at the back door controlling traffic, where the driver think you will buy the ticket from the conductor and the conductor is unsure if u have tapped your card (For real crowded cases like 190 960 case)
There was once i was at some rather rural area near a tourist attraction, there was an accident that occupied the whole road and when the police finally managed to clear the jam, i saw 2 sv331 (Full bendy fleet) passing by fully packed after 30 minutes of wait (considered very long already) and when the third 331 came within 2 minutes, the conductor opened the door, although it was really packed and me n my fren just pushed very hard and squeezed the others like sponge to get on board (It was really really packed and my friend was leaning on the door with 1 leg on the ground only and from the next stop the conductor did not stop already after request by other commuters until Summer Palace stop when some people alighted.
854 every morning sure the BC bo bian hav to let pax board from the exit and switch exit reader to Entry/Exit. few days ago i took 171 strider and the BC there keep ka chiao the ez-link system. all the readers oso go a little haywire. but when reach bus stop, it turns fine.
a common twice weekly thing for me back in JC.
to board S19 to sch at the bus stop after the polyclinic. can put abt 5 more people by the back. ![]()

Just to add on, an interesting fact about Beijing buses is that for most of the bendy/artic buses, u have to board from the middle door and the conductors are there to collect the fare. The front exit is only for alighting. For rigids, its just like sg, mostly no conductor and the driver is there to collect the fare.
