Govt may ease entry of new bus operators
It may foot the bill for bus depots, info systems to encourage greater competition
if i am a new bus operator i will put more express bus service from interchange to city area, woodland, north side of singapore, airport, tampies and jurong area. service timing will on time 3 to 5 min.
Also more air con and non air con double decker buses will introduce. a cheap bus fare for all and go back to a time where two men and one man operation mixure was. without translink fare cards system, so that to create more job for singaporean. The key thing here is to have low operating cost. express service will be omo and normal service will tmo or omo. fare from $0.75 to $3.40 per trip.
the new bus operator might has a jv with hong kong KBM operator.

New license to the allow the operatior of bushes to use articulated doubled decker bushes like the Neoplan JumboCruiser. Tandsing will not be the allowed on all public buses. No less than 44 sits must be on each bus. No more industrial sized standing/cargo spaces is the allowed on all Buses except for weelchair.

Neoplan JumboCruiser is already out of production for many years and there's currently less than 15 in the WHOLE world. Infact I think these JumboCruisers are the only bendy DD in the world.

It is not hard to make a profit... don't need $5 fares. From the fares they are already collecting now, it can already allow them to double the number of trips per service and STILL make a healthy profit. Max limit of 10 minutes waiting time per bus service is not unreasonable - and so is 5 minutes max waiting time per train - right now the NSL southbound in the morning is 7 to 8 minutes per wait and hence the trains are already jam packed to the full even at Khatib Station. As for no standing on buses, all they need to do is to re-install seats on those industrial sized cargo spaces and use foldable chairs on the wheelchair bays, plus more bendies and DD's on heavy usage services. Of course these mean more $$$ spent but it is the duty of transport companies - after all they shud be listed as public service organisations and hence should be obliged to spend.

JumboCruisers would be so suitable for the load types seen in Singapore... but too bad technically speaking it is a nightmare to maintain... plus the JumboCruiser was made as a long distance coach and not as city commuter
vehicles. However, the Neoplan MegaShuttle is still in production and is still an ideal solution for some of the ultra heavy Singapore routes.

Fyi, the Neoplan MegaShuttle was in Hong Kong for trials in the 90s. The operators concluded that it wasn't suitable for ops.
Likewise, I don't think it is suitable for our roads, let alone for passenger use.
What the operators need is to beef up frequency. What's the use of a bus that can accommodate hundreds of people if the frequency is poor?

If your company competes with another operator on the same route, and that competitor happens to deploy ONLY aircon buses, I'd choose your competitor. These days, operators are moving towards an all-aircon bus fleet, and your company is doing the reverse by operating non-aircon ones. Any justifications on your side, may I ask?

The JumboCruiser and Megashuttle are two different kinds of buses. JumboCruisers were taken off production line due to what you've said, maintenance issues and also stability issues. The JumboCruisers are definitely too huge for Singapore roads. You should have seen how slowly and long the JumboCruisers take to make a sharp turn to avoid tipping over.

Frequency is always going to be poor... especially along routes that run in congested roads.. unless the bus co's are willing to double their trips. In such cases buses that can eat huge loads would be a plus. The bus co's cant put two buses together coz riders will then complain of bus bunching.
If SBS997A can run in SG roads, I dont see how MegaShuttles will have too much difficulties.

Yep.. the Jumbo's and Mega's are two different things. Jumbo's are not feasible, while Mega's can probably be considered for regular commuter use.
The other option we havent seen here, and probably not feasible as well, are the double artics...
those buses with two articulators.
