Very likely it would be registered as SBS8031J. SBS8029S will be skipped.

If the MAN demo comes with a ZF, it would most probably be a ZF6HP504, which means to say it should be the first bus using the new and quiter Ecomat-4 gearbox.
However, if it comes with a Voith, it would most probably come with a Voith D854.5 gearbox, which means to say that it would be the first 5 speed Voith in Singapore. Don't be surprised at how fast the gears change.
MAn always come with Voith. its a standard chassis item.
I am 96 percent sure our dear MAn comes with Voith

No, the info about the gearboxes was gotten from MAN's website. And most, if not all of the MAN buses delivered to the Asia Pacific area by MAN Germany within the past 2 years are either equipped with a Manual (usually a ZF S6.XX) or a ZF auto (eg, HK's NL263s, 273s, Brisbane's 18.310, NG313s, Perth's NG313). They recommend Voith for their Lion City, but for the MAN A69 chassis (ie 18.240, 280, 310 HOCL-NL), they give an option of either ZF 6HP504 or Voith 854.5.

nope. Votih D854.5 is a 4-speed gearbox. the '.5' at the end means, imo, a later technology than the DIWA .3 series.
whihc means, in short, still got long long first gear lor.
So this bus is still not on the road yet I think as it is now at a SBST Bus depot...

No idea. Not spotted at Sin Ming either.

Hmm i was told by one of the person here that the '.4', '.5's refers to the clutch housing. Dunno correct or not. Do remember that Voith also makes a gearbox with a suffix E, for example, Voith DIWA D863.3E, but i dunno what it stands for. ![]()

the bus has not been registered yet? SBS is still testing the bus?

Not quite right.
Regarding Brisbane's MAN 18.310 HOUCL-R-NL CNG units, the earlier deliveries featured ZF 6HP 592C transmissions but all of the current deliveries as well as some of the previous units feature Voith D864.5 transmissions. All of Brisbane's NG 313 F CNG articulated buses have D864.5 transmissions also, but Perth's one has a ZF 6HP 594C transmission - a new Ecomat 4. MAN recommends and supplies as standard, Voith DIWA.5 transmissions on all their city bus integrals and chassis now.

Dave

.3, .5, etc. denotes transmission generation (e.g. D863.3 is a DIWA.3 and a D864.5 is a DDIWA.5).
An "E" suffix denotes CAN-bus compatibility (like "C" used by ZF).

Voith gearboxes are so much quieter than ZF and are whineless. I wonder why is the market wanting ZF.

ZF gearboxes were said to consume less fuel.

hmm...yeah...change gears faster will consume less fuel as it does no stress the engine that much. but the Habits are being stressed a little too much on both ZF and Voith...

I see. Mind if you explain what's CAN? I still do not know what's CAN till now. ![]()

On what bus can you infer that Voith is noiser than ZF?
