Yesterday i saw a service 3 k230ub in the morning that was chugging away like a train as it drove off. Rims also all turn black le =P

EDS showed 'OFF SERVICE' thats all i saw. my bus friend told me it was 8479.
I noticed that 130's KUBs are having its 'Ang Mo Kio' destination unbold.

makes us wonder why SBST have the Alcoa rims buy all sliver instead of dull sliver from the current batch of buses. within two weeks, rain and shine, the rims all turn dull or greyed.

Think most services will get Scania perms.Hope that the horn is still the same as the 1st batch
That horn which the KUBs has is the LOUDEST horn I ever heard in my life. I would be shocked the minute I heard the horn. I think the horn is almost as loud as a train horn. Anyway, the horns are all present on all KUBs currently. no variations except for Engine Sound and EDS displays.

1. All-wheel disc brakes instead of drum brakes (as used on older buses) means more powerful (but sudden/rough) braking performance.
2. The K230UB has a 5-cylinder inline turbocharged, intercooled diesel engine with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) that displaces 8.9-litres (Scania model DC9).
3. Bodywork is by Gemilang.
4. Transmissions is ZF-Ecomat 4 (model 6HP 504C) - the latest generation of Ecomat transmissions designed to mate with the newest Euro 4 and Euro 5 engines.

I dun really like the latest ZF transmissions that are mated to the K230UB's engines. It shifts up so early in all other gears except the 1st, leaving the engine lugging the bus along most of the time.
No doubt the engine is powerful, but i dun like e feeling of e engine lugging the bus along. Like under-ultilising the engine.
Scania? MAN? DAF? Mercedes? I tell u, bus555, there r so many trucks including those, like HINO, UD, Reanult (recently introduced a new version)!

This is very common on KUB services, where the passing-by destinations repeats.

The transmission is fully customiseable in terms of gearshift points. The vehicle manufacturer (in this case, Scania) sets the gearshift points to suit the engine (minimum consumption). If the operator wishes to optimise the gearshift points for power or a compromise between power and economy, this is easily done via computer.
Also FYI, the Scania DC9 engine isn't particularly powerful.

Dave
the kub engine is definitely not powerful.
