I personally feel SBS957R is good. Try it one day. You will like it.

Well said. But 885P is not really that bad after all. It's just like the case of 593G. Some like it, some don't.
OT: I finally found the descendent of 593G. Look out for 2691T (HG 147).

Aiya every depot has its own strengths and weaknesses what. BNDEP isn't that bad right?

There are more in HGDEP ![]()
SBS2602B (HG SP)
SBS810E (HG 112)
SBS1909Z (HG 107/107M)
SBS1987Y (HG 74) - never took it for a long time
SBS593G is still the "best" ![]()

bndep isn't that bad, especially when the 36 DM3500s (36 now all Scania liao) were (and still are) well maintained even though their engines run for the whole day.

885P is the screwed differential. Thats why you hear around the rear wheel a bit weird weird. One of the 89 VOs (forgot which one) also have the same problem.

Yes, there are too many, I sometimes get used to them and felt no diff unless I get something which are obviously lousy/very good.
The best buses are SLBP buses while every other aren't as good as those in SLBP. Gotta understand the chickenlittle2's theory.

Jus to name a few more that r somewhat gd enough to be classified as gd buses in HGDEP. SBS682H (HG 315), SBS803B (HG 315), SBS2694K (HG 27)
I c a bus as gd on how powerful it is (It's nt easy to feel because they do limit some buses [ie limit gear and top speed]), how strong the a/c is, how much vibrations (dependin on the brand), and feel the suspension.

Remembered taking SBS682H on service 163 before it was being redeployed, the bus was quite ok except that the aircon was not that good.
SBS2694K on service 27 was quite ok too in terms of smoothness.

In fact, SBS682H is one of the cooling buses now and it's nt during raining period, hot sun period..![]()

Perhaps HGDEP could have rectified the problem after SBS682H was being sent out from service 163.
back to the scanias: what is 8109 U's problem?
it makes loud swishing noises when the bus moves, and i know its nothing related engine-wise, cus when a bc revved the engine in neutral, no swishing, but the amplitude and frequency of the noise increases with speed.

This problem not only affects the K230s but most of the Scanias. The N113s and L113s also faced the same problems as you've described.

For me, I named it as the whirring sound "nong.nong.nong(continous)......Nong......" which I have found that it has 3 parts to it. The worse is having it at the last part when the bus is speeding, it can be noisy and a nuisance
(e.g. SBS1987Y on Sv 27, ex-perm) The bus acceleration is good, air-con is strong however the whirring sound spoils the whole thing...
Buses that have this problem
SBS973T (HG 83), had this problem when it was on Sv 27
SBS939T (HG 101) plus roaring
SBS961C (HG 153) plus roaring
Buses to recommend:
DM:
SBS892T (smooth acceleration)
SBS918D and SBS960E (the engine sound is quite unique when it speeds and decelerate)
SBS980Y (smooth acceleration, clear engine sound)
SBS982S (whistling sound)
SBS928A etc....
Strider:
SBS2630U,SBS2639X, SBS2670D, SBS2683S, SBS2675R, SBS2680A (smooth acceleration, clear engine sound)
SBS2688D (change gear at a fast rate, speeder)
DM3500:
SBS2753Z, SBS2795C, SBS2836T (smooth acceleration, clear engine sound)
and etc...

Nice name ![]()
I stay on the 10th floor and 593G was the only bus that I don't have to look out of the window and I know it's passing by. Now, he got a companion, SBS8109U. 1 goes "voom voom voom (continuously)" and another go "shish shish shish (continuously)".
I still recommend SBS957R. Forever cold except when the engine is off. And OT abit.. Try SBS2787B too..

SBS8483M feels more powerful during acceleration, the gear only change at rather high ref
