And another common misconception among Singaporeans.
It's not TIBS.

which is why they are annoying.
cyclists cycling on a pathway, since its a pathway, pedestrians have the right of way.
but cyclist on a road, thats a complete;ly different thing,
when on the road, its the responsiblity of both cars and biker;.

for e bus... I dun understand... if they're in front and bus wanna filter to bus bay, he should jolly well slow down and wait cos they're alrdy in front
this sort of things can siam just siam
Bicycles should be cycled on the pavements instead. People being knock down by cyclists is better than cyclist being knock down by vehicles. That's my opinion.
Cyclists always hinder the road traffic at times. During morning i see cyclists on the road where there is traffic jam, my bus has to follow the cyclist instead of overtaking since there is no other lanes for overtaking. Throughout the long stretch at Hougang Ave 3, imagine how long i need to travel? Might as well i walk throught the street?

If they are travelling behind one another, to the most left of the road, still OK.
Problem is, some of them like to cycle parallel.

Yesh! The thing is most of the time cyclist think they have the right of way on the roads.
Safety and road courtesy is always a 2-way thing.
If you don't see it this way, then it's always a recipe for disaster.

it's an offence for bikes to be cycled on pavement

That's why i said it is better to cycle on pavement.
cyclists shouldn't cycle on pavement. the careless ones can cause injury to those who walk.
i cycle on a regular basis. i must say most sbs drivers are cool. perhaps they are trained. most actually filter out to pass me and my group of cyclists. on our part, we keep to our line as much as possible. we do not weave in and out but be as predictible as possible. of course, we keep ourselves well `lighted' up. we cycle mostly at night weekdays, doing the mandai - new tee loop.
16/f/lonely is correct. there has to be mutual respect for all road users, regardless of vehicle type one uses. when i drive, i try to give way to cyclists/motorcyclists as much as possible when the situation calls.
for a life to be lost due to an impatient driver would be tragic.
having said that, singapore has a long way to go to being a cycle friendly nation. perhaps it is the humid weather....
i cycle on the roads too.
it's impossible to cycle on the pathways.
just look at the park connector, bicycle track, under the MRT viaduct between Tampines & Simei stations, pedestrians are on the bicycle track just so they are away from the Sun. granted they want shade, who will be at fault for "causing the inconvenience"?
i cycle up loyang ave towards changi village. at the uphill part when the bus driver filters out from bus stop, they give way to me but i'll always check behind to see if it's clear for him. if it is, i'll rather wave and let him go ahead. slow me cant accelerate up the steep loyang avenue. :)
cycling in CBD is also not a problem. my experience, bus drivers will give a bit of leeway.. but i havent done much cycling along shenton way since the full day bus lanes kicked in...
i'm more towards thinking that the cyclists in the article are those "professional" cyclists with racing bikes that take up the entire lane when they cycle, especially so with their friends in tow.
maybe goverment can buit bicycle lanes lyk those in china.
Hmm, when is this article written before sending to Today, 10 years ago, and since when there is a rego starting with TIBS.
Anyway, it would be good in major roads having a road shoulder for cyclist to use to siam buses.
Maybe the 61 late, so the sl very impatient and wanted to catch schedule by choinging, but he can wait till 2nd lane to have no traffic and overtake, not a need for horn, maybe sl thinking of the habit in YCK road accident so do not dare to filter, later another K230 bang into it.

In my opinion, drivers horn cyclists is to alert them that there is a bus behind. It's better than you quietly follow the bicycle. I still think that it's safer to cycle on pavement.
Lastly, bicycles never pay road tax.![]()
