I hope we can also discuss about some photography skills and share the skills with everyone here instead of just posting photos. I am not sure if anyone has came out with guidelines but I will just share mine. Here are just some general guidelines to help those who wish to take decent pictures and it allows us to learn skills from one another. Correct me if I'm wrong in certain points.
For day shots:
· When possible, try to use a camera that allows customization of ISO, shutter speed and aperture.
· Try to take photos in places with enough sunlight unless it's some cameos. A learning point for myself too.
· ISO should be set to around 80 or 100. For those who don't know, ISO determines the sensitivity to light of the camera
· Generally it's easier to take nearside shots at traffic junctions based on my personal experience.
· For shots of buses with Coolair EDS, shutter speed must be strictly between 1/50 sec or 1/60 sec or maybe longer.
· For those who don't know the speed of the shutter determined how fast the shutter opens and closes. 1/60 sec shutter speed means that the shutter stays opens for 1 out of 60 seconds. Hope that someone can relate the Coolair's refresh rate to the shutter speed required.
· I heard from sources that LAWO EDS by SMRT requires 1/80 shutter speed but I have not tried it out myself. Can someone clarify this?
· For Non-EDS buses, you can use about 1/500 shutter speed under adequate sunlight for moving nearside shots.
· The aperture determines how wide the lens of the camera opens. The higher the value, the less wider it opens. Use a higher value when sunlight is very strong and a lower value when sunlight is not so strong. Generally most cameras should be able to set either 2.8 and 7.0 or 8.0. The value automatically increases when you zoom in, based on my experience. Can anyone explain for this?
Night shots:
· Night shots can only be conducted when the bus is stationary at the bus stop.
· A Tripod is strictly needed as shutter opening time is long, so no shakes when the shutter it open.
· Shutter speed must be at least 1 sec or more. Although it is said that increasing the ISO can increase the sensitivity of the camera to light, do NOT increase it for night shots as it may get grainy. Let it stay at 80 or 100.
· Find spots where there is less traffic as the shots can be destroyed if any vehicle passes by when the shutter is open
