Man, I seriously think, should World War III happen in the foreseeable future, it'll be the due cause of you bus-homosexuals lingering around Earth.
Jew/Homosexual extermination? Up next, probably, Bus-geeks/Homosexuals extermination.
So fast invoke Godwin's Law already? You've lost the debate.
Anyway, for the rest :

in general, it requires ur eyes to be aiming on that particular bus, be it perm or cameo.
So, there are no blind bus spotters?

Certain buses have extremely distinct sounds so they are easy (e.g. TIB1049L's decelerating sound is extremely high pitch compared to other Voiths, TIB1166G's acceleration sounds different from other ZFs)

I'm not doubting anyone but rego leh... model of engine maybe more possible? or maybe sounds of more distinctive buses lie those CMI merc....
its circumstances
the bus fan is on some area with lesser bus services.
The bus has ad.
the bus is one or two of the unique ones in the fleet.
then using the sound of the bus approaching, the bus fan can tell them apart.

like sometimes i can tell certain buses from my classroom, with it's doors facing Bt Timah Rd. once when having lessons, SBS9800A arrived at my sch bus stop, and i deduced that it is definitely this bus, since my sch has only a svc with perm VSOs, and this bus' Voith whistle pitching is way too high..
usually during recess i do spottings from my classroom, and usually telling buses from their ads and side EDS/desto.
