but e malaysian side even worse than our old buses. remember i onced told u abt my experience on a Transit Link JB ride?
For the OAC Nissan UDs it is good for the Malaysian companies to buy over them to deploy on the resort shuttles too. Places like Cameron Highlands, Pulau Tioman, Langkawi, Pangkor may need such buses as some places are currently still using NAC buses which are over 20 years old.
Whereas the CAC ones...hmm...they might just convert to non air-con, just switch off aircon and open window
.
Originally posted by TIB1018B:By looking at those pics posted by manjieass, it is really a pity to see them being scrapped off just like that though the CAC interiors are really in bad conditions. Hopefully SMRT could just sell them off to other places like Bintan and Batam, perhaps to the kampungs in Malaysia too. I believe that the villagers living there will be happy to get air-conditioned buses. In fact I have even seen some buses in Malaysia, they are non air-conditioned and furthermore they seem to be even older than the SMRT's Nissan UD fleets.
Some examples of such buses in Malaysia...They are just like the old school buses which I remembered taking everyday to school way back in the early 1990s.
Haizz.this type of buses can still be in service whereas our good and solid SBST and SMRT buses cannot be in service even in superb condition.
singapore is so boring.
good buses dont want to sell.they just scrap the buses when there are other countries even without average A/C buses.
Originally posted by manjieass:yup the interior of cac is really bad but oac are stil pretty good imo esp the cloth seat type.. i’ll find out whether its for scrap not if yes maybe can salvage some parts such as side mirror or the ticket machine as memory..
Yah.the OACs are in very good condition.the seats are just so nice.i just took CSS179H on 975 two weeks ago.its perfomance was fantastic.after that i took TIB1254K on 178.its acceleration was good.but whenever the bus crossed a junction or went over something, the windows vibrated as if they will break into peices any moment.it was very scary.when the windows vibrated, the noise was terrible.and there were litter all over the bus.man,it was terrible.the back of the bus was very dirty as if it wasnt cleaned for months.there were tissue papers stuffed under the rear seats, tickets and food wrappers were thrown everywhere at the rear.what is WLDEP doing?
anyway,i feel that the OACs are maintained more better.its very sad to see them go.![]()

Yah.no need to say.obviously they are worse than our Nissans.but at least they are so much more luckier than our Merc, scania N113s and Nissans.

But there's the possiblity the policy of other countries is - use till it really cannot be used then scrap because by that time no one wants to buy and use anyway. The operators might not even want to waste money renewing bus fleets if the bus still works.
Singapore's recent old buses are - use till max lifespan of 19 years, then die die must scrap or sell - if nobody buys will still scrap even though condition is ok. Govt mandate.

those all Hino AKs. malaysia got a lot of such engine types running around. some r in fact more than 10 yrs old (some r in fact 20 or so!). how i wished e local bus companies there bought not just e UDs, but also e MK2, MB0405 n Scania 113CRB, n those awaiting to be scrapped like MK3s.
Yah.its very common to see those type of old buses especially in Johor.but its also puzzling that why the Malaysian operators dont want to buy the Merc, scania N113s,Nissans or the other buses that will be scrapped soon such as the MK3s.like u say,it would be so good if they buy those buses from us.

Yah.so good.they use the bus fully until it cant be used anymore.LTA rules all this scrapping of SBST and SMRT buses.its LTA's fault that the old SBST and SMRT buses are scrapped so fast.LTA says means must scrap already.SBST or SMRT cannot reject what LTA say also.if SBST or SMRT rejects what LTA says, they sure mati right?

think before you shoot... last time lifespan was 12 years, then become 15 years, then become 17 years. and now even got 19 years. What do u want actually? You want to see a 30yrs old merc on the road? U mean LTA should extend the lifespan of all public buses to 30 years?
when there are a lot of old buses on the road, ppl like u complain why SBST/SMRT never buy new buses. Then when new buses are bought and you dun like it, then complain why LTA never extend further the lifespan of old buses?

It's other countries their policy to use till the bus cannot be used. Singapore scraps/sells them so that they can also renew the fleet for a world class transport system. Although it is a pity to scrap it, it can't be helped.
thanks SMRT bus lurver.
Merczrox - it was taken at the farewell tour at fort road heavy vehicle park.
It is sad to see them go. If it is at other country, I would buy it and convert to my home ! LOL

relax relax, it's not worth to start a flame war over this. Even I was sad to see the Merc go off, but then again we still have to face it don't we? The best thing now is to cherish all the buses that are still on the roads. My favourite merc SBS432M still have to go off next year, but I still have to face its fate. Ok now, back to the topic bah. =D

then u must visit Ipoh 1 day. e buses there really old 1 ah. but e rides r real good, like taking bumpy bus in e old days.
Even if the SMRT Nissan UDs are deregistered, there will still be a few private companies' Nissan UDs on the road.

those r unfortunately, not U31s.
Even if I support Japanese technology much, the U31 buses are not the most fantastic... If you talk about the same era (1980-1990), there are also later models of the Spacerunner which feature V8 engines of up to 340PS (335 bhp), the U-UA520, introduced in 1990 and before the export model U31 RCN manufactured in 1993.
There is this possiblilty that this batch of U31 RCN are made specially as an export requirement by the buyer and made long after production for this model has ended. U31 production lasted from 1980 to 1984, conforming to Showa 54 emission requirements and using the PE6H engine as benchmark.
