Remembered seeing a Volvo MK4 DM3500 along Yishun area in 2000, think it was service 787.
I can recall in 1993-1995, when Tibs started introducing aircon buses to the existing NAC bus services.
The OAC Nissan UD RCNs were first introduced in early 1993 and service 854 was the 1st bus service to be converted to PAC status.
After which the wider EDS buses (which were the Hispano MB0405s) made its first mass appearance on service 851.
1995-1997 marked a major Tibs revamp year whereby mass fleets of new Tibs buses (OAC and NAC MB0405s, Scania L113 Striders, DAF WAs in 1995) were bought in to replace most of the NAC fleets (regos from TIB1E to TIB2xx series). It was also a time where Tibs took over Bt Panjang and Jalan Kayu services. Took a lot of joyrides on those OAC MB0405s on different routes those days.
In 1997 Tibs introduced bendy bus MB0405Gs. Remembered services like 82, 160, 176, 812, 851, 856, 912, 913, 960 which got them for a start. Joyrided them on services 160 and 851 by then. More Habit bendies were bought in during 2000, whereby more services were introduced with bendies.

Hmmm... still remember that my first ride on an air-conditioned public bus was a Mercedes MB O405 on one of the Yishun trunk routes in 1994 or 1995.
I also remembered the old route 857, which used a full complement of OAC Nissan Diesel U31RCNs. When was it introduced?
As for the TIBS Jalan Kayu routes, I still remember seeing a mostly Scania L113CRL fleet on it, but - on at least one occassion - a Mercedes MB O405 was deployed. Still remembered seeing that bus, which I associated more with places like Yishun and Woodlands, along Lorong 6 Toa Payoh, which looked really out of place to me.
And the MB O405Gs - I still remember regularly riding them on route 812 to Yishun Swimming Complex in my childhood days in the late 1990's; at that time, it was still quite a novelty, and people called it a "long bus" and things like that

The 1st Mercedes buses ever that Tibs bought in were the Hispano MB0405s in 1994, and Tibs also introduced the "green" interior to all its buses at that time. They were first introduced to services 851 and 854 if I am not mistaken. Buses before that were mainly the NAC Japanese buses (mixture of Nissan and Hino) and a few OAC Hispano DAFs, which had standard beige interiors and brown seats (NAC).
The old route service 857 was introduced in early 1990s I think, should be deployed with TIB279X and TIB280R (CAC Nissan U31 SCNs), after which they were replaced with the Nissan U31 RCNs in 1993.
For Jalan Kayu side when handed over to Tibs, services 59 and 163 (which were already made FAC by SBS) were a bit more special to have a full fleet OAC Scania Striders. Whereas service 103 had OAC and NAC MB0405s. Other Bt Panjang services mainly had Merc buses for a start when handed over to Tibs.

The majority of the demand on service 36 is between the city and Marine Parade. Not many people take service 36 from the city to go to Changi Airport (and vice-versa). It's the: City - Marine Parade sector which is more possible for FFw.

CAC Nissans? Now that's a surprise to me; for as long as I can remember, I had never seen any of those CAC-style Japanese buses in Yishun (i.e. the air-conditioned Hinos and the CAC Nissan U31SCNs) until around 1995 or 1996, when routes 950 to 952, the majority user of these buses, were withdrawn and their buses given to other routes; route 169 then had a lot of those air-conditioned Hinos, from what I remember. I also recall seeing an air-conditioned Hino bus at the bus stop near Chong Pang City along Sembawang Road, though I cannot remember whether that was before or after route 169 was amended (if it was after, then was it route 167 (unlikely - never recalled these buses on that route) or the old 160? Or could it had been 856?)
Talking about route 169, I faintly recall that the CAC-style Japanese buses did not come in until at least just before or after the Yishun amendment; I still recall a trip on route 169 from Ang Mo Kio to Chong Pang City (obviously before the amendment) on an non air-conditioned Nissan U31SCN or R87 (?) - the bus had a jacknife (folding) door at the exit instead of the usual sliding door. At that time, there was nary an air-conditioned bus on route 169 (other than probably a few Mercedes MB O405s that eluded me). After the amendment, the air-conditioned Hinos seemed to be everywhere on this route; they disappeared (later I would know they went to CSS) and were replaced by the new Malaysian-made Dennis Lance buses sometime in 1997 or 1998. At that time, they still used plastic destos instead of the flip-dot displays, and I suspect that the destos they used were the same as the ones used during the days of air-conditioned Hinos on route 169 (remember, the air-conditioned Hinos used plastic destos similar to most SBS Transit buses today).
In those days, the bus models that intrigued me the most were the CAC-style Japanese buses; I found them odd as they had NAC-style windows and yet were air-conditioned. After the 1995-1996 rationalisation, besides route 169, I recall at least one of the Hinos on route 187 (although someone pointed out once a long time ago that I might had mis-remembered things, but I feel that it may had been a cameo); route 169 had the CAC Nissans complementing the air-conditioned Hinos too. Several of the Nissans also had their air-conditioning unit switched off (permenantly?) and served as non air-conditioned buses on several Yishun bus routes; routes 800 and 854 were among the ones I recall, and someone once had a ticket of one of those buses showing it to be running on route 851. I also recall seeing a suspected CAC Nissan on route 171; did any of those buses ever serve that route?

I am not sure now, but I do recall that they (the Dennis Lance buses) had the flip-dot displays installed on them by that time.

Later the OAC Nissan Diesel U31RCN buses joined in 857 for the short period of time, after when the Nissans were replaced by O405s on 851 & 854. There was ever a O405 cameo on 857 before (i.e. TIB425R & TIB426M from AMDEP 851). It was withdrawn when 857 merged with 169.
So... let me get it: the CAC Nissans were there until the new MB O405 buses displaced the OAC Nissans on route 851 and 854, which then went to the old route 857?
I was originally thinking that you said that there were permenant Mercedes MB O405 buses on route 857, contradicting yourself in the post.
New question: one of the bus stops served by the old route 857 was the one along Yishun Avenue 2, near the mosque beside the newer HDB apartments (then unbuilt). Today, routes 169 and 965 use it, and the bus stop opposite also has route 811 on it's northern loop (former route 801), as well as route 800. Before the introduction of the old route 857, were there any bus routes using that bus stop? Remember: there was no route 965 at that time, route 169 started using that bus stop as a result of the amendment and intergration with the old route 857, which saw it being withdrawn, and route 811 (then still as a standalone feeder route 801) used only the bus stop opposite it along with route 800, as mentioned afore. Had the bus stop always been around from when Yishun Avenue 2 was paved and opened, and left unused until 1993 when the old route 857 was introduced?

My rationale is that, by charging premium fares, SBS Transit can recover lost fares due to the predicted low usage of the route, though that will mean any route 36e will have to operate full-day.
Hmmm...

I see; I thought that the latter pair of bus stops were built for route 169 after it was intergrated and amended with the old route 857.

All the Malaysian UMW Lances when new did not have any EDS, they used the plastic blue destos for a start. The Malaysian UMW Lances were first introduced on services 59, 163 and 854. After which services 103, 169, 825 and 853 had those Lances with the blue destos. I remembered service 980 only had UMW Lance deployments later after the EDS was installed.

Currently, yes. Only the Malaysian Dennis Lance buses have these "furry" panelling, at least in regards to public buses.
I do remember that several other air-conditioned buses used to have them, such as SBS Transit's (then SBS') Mercedes MB O405 buses before refurbishment. I also remembered that the Duple-Mestec bodied version had two versions of it's interior: both had the "furry" panelling if I remember correctly, but one had non-adjustable air-conditioning slit vents (if you want to know what they looked like, think of the vents in today's SMRT's Mercedes OC500LE or Habit-bodied MB O405G, minus the rotary lever and jutting out, and positioned closer to the celling), while the other had round adjustable ones similar to the ones all of them have today. Were the differences based on the model of the air-conditioning unit they had?

I remembered riding on a CAC Nissan U31 SCN on service 825 way back in 1993 and it was the first Tibs aircon bus ride for me as well. Think most of the CAC SCNs were then transferred to KJDEP when AMDEP had the new Merc 0405 buses.
To add on service 169 when converted to PAC in 1995, there were a mixture of MB0405s and Nissan U31RCNs on service 169. Some CAC Nissan U31SCNs and Hinos made cameo appearances too.

Yup, TIB311K to TIB317U were converted to NAC buses somewhere in 1996. The aircon was just swithced off that's all. There were also some Hinos (TIB38x series) as well as TIB390G which were also converted to NAC buses, however they were transferred to CSS in 1997 and were reverted back to AC once again.
TIB311K to TIB317U were among some buses to transfer from KJDEP to AMDEP when all the NAC Hinos were all given to KJDEP in late 1997. After which those Nissans were running around as spare buses cameoing on AMDEP services at that time.
