They shld also convert those double-deck non ac ones as well…
Only 2 out of 5 fleets for service 6 are AC fleets (1 DD VO3x and 1 SD MK3). By 8 dec all of service 6's fleets should be FAC. Most probably those spare Volvo MK4s from BNDEP will be depolyed over to replace the existing NAC fleet.
For the NAC DDs to be converted to AC, hmm... It's not as simple as what you think. As you notice carefully, AC DDs have 3 axles whereas NAC ones only has 2. And in order to convert to AC, cooling systems are needed to install on the base, which will take up additional weight. As such a lot of modifications are required which can be very costly.

The thread title technically isn't quite true. There are still NAC private buses and the thread title is "Farewell to all non aircon single decks in Singapore.". lol
Still remember the TIBS days of the Hinos NAC of the 1980s.
another 10 more days to go {8 more days if talking abt last op day on Sv 6 since 8 Dec is a PH}
Just took time out to go to PSR and take SBS3638S on 359 today.
Then I kept touching the seats and the rubber part around the window and ppl started looking at me... ![]()

Maybe should rename "Farewell to all SBST's NAC single decks in Singapore"
Yes, those NAC Hinos were last seen on Tibs service 175 (now 975) way back in Dec 2001. They were the last NAC buses to be scrapped, at that time all the NAC Scania ELBOs underwent AC conversion too. Tibs achieved its 100% FAC fleet after TIB848D was converted AC.

All these CAC Nissan UDs were never under Tibs before, they were all the while under CSS fleets.
It was in March 2004 when Tibs was merged into SMRT. In September that year SMRT started taking in all these old buses to increase its fleets instead of buying new buses, which eventually led to the downgrade of service standards especially service 178.

I hope you are not doing any sexually arousing moves..
my last crb nac was on 6 ,forgotten de rego though..
Time certainly flies...All good things are certainly coming to an end...
I suppose all Scania N113CRB lovers will honour that very day..
OAC buses are now here to stay. NAC buses were bought in to give passengers a choice of Aircon or Non-Aircon buses (comfort and fares). As time progresses, aircon became a neccesity for comfort, and more OAC buses are brought in, and as of today, aircon buses are the de-facto standard of any transport in the world.
The most significant NAC to OAC switch was when 170 converted from a full fleet B10M MKIIs to B10M MKIIIs. The NACs got passengers at the causeway jams choked with toxic fumes, humid, hot, uncomfortable etc. Some of the passengers chosed to walk to SG/MY via the causeway because of it.There were numerous other complaints from the passengers to, so relief came in the form of the MKIIIs which sadly will soon be retired too. Not to mention, the MKIIIs gave the 160/170 a fresh blend in coach-like look in Malaysia due to it's Duple Metsec bodywork.
And not to forget TIBS's full aircon fleet conversion when they aim to overtake their rival SBS in the service standard.
NAC problems also had presented a problem in the rain, since the windows can be opened and closed. There were inconsiderate people whom can't be bothered to close the windows and got the seats wet or rain to splash to your clothes and face. If you close the windows fully, the bus becomes a hot-cold stuffy bus.
The closest thing to an NAC bus is now a CAC bus (appearance wise).
The good old days are ending. To all SBST NACs, we salute you. :D
I wish they would keep a few NAC buses ard..
will be sad to see them go.
Rides from Albiion vvikings, to guy Aran victories, to B57s to MB OF1417s to MB OF1413 will never forget.
Even lyeland llynx.
NAC DD were a nnovelty during my kiddy days. rides on meerc O305 Leyland atleantan were memeorable.
MAC DD continues today as o2x . i still can get a nice NAC ride on svc 93 on way to work every afternoon shift. that i am grateful for. Will continue riding vo2x and chrish the moments.
ZYX
Still got VO2x on Sv 74, 91, 93, 154, 179, 182, 192, 193, 242, 246, 249, 251, 252, 254, 255 & 257 if talking abt non aircon buses
Don't be sad, bus fans, There are still non-aircon buses in singapore, not like they are disappeared.
Organizations buy them.Is just that no more SBST Bus feel only.

last day liao
There will be pictures of the last NACs on the photos thread. It's like saying goodbye to many "friends" in 2 years - B10M MKII, Scanias, O405s, and now the fleet of NAC buses.
And in comes the new buses which still hasn't really grown on some bus fans yet. >.<. Frankly, Gemilang is like a slap in the face.
