I think it should be Lebuhraya Tebrau not Jalan Tebrau if I am not wrong.

but it's the only and official way from city square or even kotaraya (by foot) to Singapore. if not have to jaywalk across the road below.
just be vigilant but not over sensitive.

it's known to be "safer" to jaywalk thru the traffic jam of cars below. ![]()
the overhead bridge, the customs side is not well-lit(blocking sunshine too). some stay on the bridge awaiting vulnerable potential victims. snatch, run...
ask the provision shop uncle. he'll say it's normal. truly asia hor. ![]()
I think that when the new CIQ complex opens, most people prefer walk through the overhead bridge to City Square rather than taking 160 and 950.
Various media sources announced the new JB CIQ will open on 1 Dec 2008. However SMRT announced the amendment of their service 950 on 2/12/08. I guess the date they mentioned is just the targetted opening date. Since the media announced JB CIQ opening as 1/12/08, I believe the amendment of the cross-territorial bus services (160/170/950) should be in tandem with the opening.
Will keep you updated.
P.S. Perhaps, the introduction of SBST Fast Forward 170e (EIFS #529) may be well introduced when the route amendments have taken effect. Remember, SBST had applied to PTC to operate 170e quite sometime back and PTC had granted approval. Visit http://www.ptc.gov.sg/statistics_summary.asp

I would feel that the 170e is more likely to target those staying in Upp Bt Timah / Bt Timah area to town.
Dont forget that if they want to intro a new service into JB, they have also have to go through the malaysia side first. And i doubt that they will approve unless there is sort of a 1-1 exchange agreement.
I believe 170e may be a Singapore-side only arrangement between Queen St and Woodlands CIQ, where passengers can transfer to a normal 170 to Larkin or Pasar Bakti after JB CIQ, since it's the fastest option anyway.
And I believe 170e will be out only after the fleet renewal, when rectangular destos will be introduced.

Yea, 170e is most likely SG arrangement only. They'll have to get approval from authorities from Malaysia. Also, the route between JB CIQ and Larkin/Pasir Bakti is a short trip with 160/170, so there isn't much of a point introducing a new service, going through authority hassle for a route duplicating 170, except faster.
i think the MKIIIs going of at 2010 est. (1 more year). So making the plastic destos that MKIIIs using right now not really worth it. Means have to wait for 1 more year before 170e is plying.
Most likely they'll use MKIV DM or Striders first. Don't think they'll use the newer DM3500s.

My belief is 2009, DM3500. 170e might not require approval from Malaysian authorities at all.
I also look forward to a revised fleet of 170s. The current fleet is boring.

Haha, let's keep the fingers crossed on 170e.
Meanwhile, stay tuned for more updates...

will SBST put the bus-stop pole at that bus-stop ?

new bus stop 47701 located outside JB Sentral. 47701 is SG or MY code for bus stops? They may be putting up plates like the checkpoint/larkin terminal type, but not sure if they may be vandalised/stolen in the future. =/
Maybe someone can post the new bus stop's pic for us for our reference when we go JB.

Further updates I obtained:
The new JB CIQ Complex will be opened on 2/12/08.
However, the new JB CIQ complex will just be a passing-through venue. Passengers and vehicles arriving or departing Malaysia will still have to use the old checkpoint.
No boarding and alighting shall be carried out at the new CIQ complex.
The new routing will apply on the direction towards Pasar Bakti for 160, 170X & 950 and Larkin for 170.
As for vehicles (including SBST & SMRT buses) coming back to Singapore, they need not pass through the new CIQ complex. Instead the current routing will be used (i.e. Jln Tun Abdul Razak) to access the current checkpoint.
The new bus stop 47701 outside JB Sentral will be for svc 160, 170X & 950 towards Pasar Bakti. Buses returning to Singapore will not stop at the bus stop.
The new JB CIQ complex targetted date of commencement of operations is set on 5 Jan 2009.
Till then, stay tuned for more updates.
