If I have to take a bus, then the train, and then the bus, will I receive more rebates than when i travel in bus and then change bus?
Does it mean that the more transfers you make, the less u pay in total?
No. You still pay more as long as you make a transfer.
Say Adult Bus Fare.
71 cents is the minimum fare. You only have 40 cents rebate. Means the next transfer you pay at least 31 cents more for the ride.
Example:
Take 190 from Choa Chu Kang Int To Dhoby Ghaut MRT
Total Fare: $1.43.
Take 190 from Choa Chu Kang Int To Orchard MRT
Fare is $1.43
Transfer NSL from Orchard MRT To Somerset MRT
Fare is $0.70 (Less 40 cents rebate)
Transfer 700 from Somerset MRT To Dhoby Ghaut MRT
Fare is $0.31 (Less 40 cents rebate)
Total Fare: $2.44
Take 190 from Choa Chu Kang Int To Whitley Road
Fare is $1.33
Transfer 700 from Whitley Road To Dhoby Ghaut MRT
Fare is $0.93 (Less 40 cents rebate)
Total Fare: $1.86
You pay 43 cents to $1.01 more for making this transfer effort.
Rule of Thumb is:
Cheapest is straight bus/train and lesser transfers as much as possible. =)
I agree =)

the fare should be 30cents.. 70cents is before rebate..
in short, those people who all along had to make necessary transfers, saw their net total fares lower than before 01 Oct 2008
those who always took direct buses, saw a net increase of about 4 cents per direct trip
btw, a bit ot: the $1.90 fare cap still exists

Does that mean, even though the more transfers you make, the more rebates you get but it is still cheaper overall when you take a direct trip?
How does the $1.90 fare cap work? Is it applicable ony for buses or for Mrt as well?
$1.90 fare cap is only applicable only for a maximum of 4 SBS Transit bus rides on basic & basic plus services (excluding Express, Premium, CityShopper, FFw, Chinatown Direct etc) within 2 hours from boarding of first trip.
Thks tamago.
So if I need to make 2 transfers, does it mean that no matter how long the trip is (within 2 hours), the max I will pay is $1.90?
eg:
Board service 66 at 1.00pm (fare is $1.33)
Alighted at 2.00pm. Board service 30 at 2.30pm (fare is $1.12 after 40c rebate, before fare cap)
so total fare paid would had been $2.45, but u only pay $1.90.
criteria: maximum 4 bus rides. the time when you board the first bus and the last bus must not exceed 2 hours. the time you take to board your next bus must not exceed 45 mins
so in the above example, if u board 30 after 2.45pm, no more transfer rebate, no more fare cap. If you alight from 30 and reboard another service by 3.00pm, the third bus will also have transfer rebate and qualifies for fare cap.
not exactly direct bus is cheaper.
Bt Merah Central to Bt Purmei
Direct bus 123: 18.5 fare stages, $1.43
Transfer: 123/139/153/198 -> 131/275
First ride: 0.5 fare stages, $0.71
Second ride: 2.5 fare stages, $0.31 (incl rebate)
total: $1.02

True, but 123 is the only one.

hmm... could you give the other positive examples? thx.

Originally posted by skythewood:so 4 bus ride within 2 hours is capped at $1.90. any cap for train than bus? let’s say Hougang MRT to Buona Vista MRT, than bus 95 to NUS
nope. you can only utilise SBST buses for the entire journey.

ok nvm drop the matter.
now i know why my mother's ride on 51 full route cost her only 38 cents. previously we took a sv105 from Toa Payoh to Jurong east, $1.52. therefore max is $1.90, so eventually the sv51 only 38 cent.
erm...i think farecap of $1.90 is cancelled due to the transfer rebate increament

^Terms and Conditions for Transfer Rebates
- To enjoy a transfer rebate, a commuter must make a transfer within 45 minutes after tapping out of the bus or LRT/MRT. If the commuter failed to tap out when alighting from the bus, the 45 minutes is counted from the time of boarding of the last bus.
- Transfer Rebates apply to a maximum of three valid transfers on a journey which must be completed within two hours.
- For transfer between LRT and MRT, a transfer rebate is automatically given in one total entry and exit fare.
- No transfer rebate is given when a transfer is made between buses of the same service number.
- Transfer rebates do not apply to Chinatown Direct, Nite Owl and Stadium Direct services.
- The same ez-link card must be used throughout the journey to enjoy the transfer rebate.
- With the increase in transfer rebate, the maximum fare cap for a single bus journey will cease.
Then..... explain how my mother got on a 51 full route for 38 cents?
