Do remember that a tripod is a must for night shots due to long exposure durations (usually up to a few seconds depending on the lighting conditions) by most compact cameras unless you are using a DSLR which allows ISO to go up to 1600 (in turn a shorter exposure time is used) without much grainy effect. Also with your tripod it is always better to take night shots from the offside of the bus.
