The no deposit thingy also has a catch.
Your CEPAS card must have at least $5 balance before you enter the transit system, to complete your journey, as there is no travel deposit to tap on.
Would the reader beeb insufficient funds when you have $4.90, and not allow you to travel? Effectively that would be the deposit. Again multiplied by millions of cards?
I feel we will be duped again. But the official explanation will make us feel we are getting a good bargain.
u all will have a pleasant experience with the PRC Transitlink staff. ![]()

I am really sick of all those fees and deposits thingy...
What travel deposit, personalisation fee, card cost, travel cost, refund here and there, validity terms... make me so confused...
Can't they just sell ez-link cards like selling phonecards? Sell at 1 price and tell them when is the card expiry. Finish..short and simple...
I really pity those elderly who come to me and I had to translate them from the Transitlink personnel that to own a simple ez-link that they need to pay for this and that.... Haiyo...
I certainly hope that they don’t “absorb” my refundable deposit during the “exchange” process. That would be unreasonable and result in me paying S$8 for the original ez-link card.
I also hope that the publicity campaign to educate people, especially the older folks, is more intense that the way it is now, because it would be sad if the older generation end up paying the more expensive cash fares instead of ez-link fares even though their cards have $2.90.
If the above publicity campaign to re-educate Singaporeans turns out to be ineffective, I hope that they give a adjustment period for Singaporeans, where Singaporeans who do not have sufficient money in their ez-link cards can pay for their fares in cash (but at the ez-link card rate).
All are just hopes.
We all know that as far as history goes, it has always been efficiency (in the eyes of the company) and unreasonable profitability over compassion and service.
some bus stops has this notices put up in a panel(like the bus guides panel) with 4 kinds of multi-language.

It's at least $3 for MRT. Variable amounts for buses (I guess it's maximum amount payable for that type of bus service), which makes it hell confusing.
At least $3 for MRT.
I think bus was recommended at $2.99 balance. =X
How stupid.... Its almost the same amount.
Saw it at Bukit Panjang Bus Interchange today. Posters in English, Chinese, Malay & Tamil.

New generation EZ Link cards to go on sale on Dec 29
SINGAPORE: Starting next Monday, commuters will be able to buy
and use a new generation of EZ Link cards which can also be used for
payment at retail outlets. For a start, 10 million cards will be made
available.
The new cards will cost S$15 each, but will only have a stored value of S$10 as the other S$5 covers the cost of the card.
The cards are compliant to a new standard called Contactless ePurse
Application (CEPAS). These new cards will have a new face design and a
CEPAS logo on them.
Eventually, these new EZ Link cards can be used in the new
generation in-vehicle units for Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges.
Drivers can also use these cards at Electronic Parking System car
parks.
With expected higher usage, the new card can store up to a maximum
value of S$500 – five times the value of current generation cards.
Details on how the old EZ Link cards can be exchanged for new ones will be announced soon.
As for the expiry date of old cards, it will be determined after consultations with the Land Transport Authority.
As an added bonus, new card owners will be able to enjoy a free six-month accident insurance coverage when they sign up on the EZ Link website.

saw one copy of english/chinese and a whole lot of copies in malay/tamil on 7412A yday. I took the last english/chinese guide, sry.
My EZ link card that is to expire 31 Dec 2008 is now extended to May.
Which means that the cards can be used until it is terminated or corroded, which ever comes earlier.
Therefore the expiry date on the card is a commercial decision not a product life span.
