1 last point too, the OC uses a better brand of Lawo MKIV GmBH EDS than the cheapskate Coolair EDS. :P
u forgot the VSO noises ![]()

Now, who saves more...
OC500LE definately, like what TIB1224Y said .. OC500LE pick-up tends to have faster pick-up , and gear change than KUB,OC also doesn't jerk as much as KUB...in the end,OC500LE still save more fuel...
my point of view:
- OC500LE: strong,quiet,euro 5,good manouvering > 4.8*/5*
- KUB euro 4: strong also,a little noisy,euro 4, ok blh tahan on roads > 4.5*/5*
-KUB euro 5: dunno...haha, wait nex yr.
Psst... Heard that OC500LE is cheaper by unit sales than a K230UB here in Singapore...
If I am not wrong, it was said (quite earlier) that per unit K230UB is more expensive than an OC500LE as purchased by operators here...

ideally would be to split the 900 orders into roughly 4 parts,Volvo for the B7R, Scania for the K23, MAN for the 18.240 and Merc for the OC500. this is giving good variety, fair enough. scanias replace scanias, volvos replace volvos, and MAN and merc replaces mercs. not 900 scanias replace volvo, merc and scania. but seems like wont happen anytime soon luhh.
The problem with 900 units, is if a big flaw is found in the bus, then I can say: BEST!![]()

oh wow. if that really happens, then its good game.
OC500LE for me.
before the OCs came out, i thought the KUB were pretty good.
but with the comparison now,
i love the faster acceleration, less violent jerks and the a/c. (it was on full blast on 171 the other day)
the jerks on the KUB got irritating when i was standing in a crowded 174. almost everyone had bags on one hand (christmas shopping). JERK JERK, not a pleasant experience.
OC may be noisy, but SBS 0405 and VSO are worst then.
What if SBST bought 900 OC's and SMRT were the ones that bought the KUB's...?
Actually I would never dislike any type or like any type in particular.
I mean....if I'm looking for a nice highway ride, it would be the B10Ms, the MKIV especially.
If I want to sleep in a slow bus-ride, I would love the B10TL.
If I am in the mood to see how fast a bus can move (that one never goes outta fashion!), I would love the CRBs and 0405s.
You get what I mean.

Dunno...cannot imagine...would it make any diff when different companies buy them? o.O"

people will complain. too many OCs.

OT: better than complaining to OCC about the wiper..

then i would love SBS for having the OCs...

If in different bodyworks variation may alleviate the complains. :p
Like,O405s (SBST) is in 2 different bodyworks, B10M MKIVs in 3 different bodyworks and O405Gs in 4 different bodyworks.
The perm problem is SBST's 500 units are all Gemilangs le. 132 of Gemilang OCs stilll quite ok given majority of the fleet is still rather modern.
One thing i worry about the OC is the gearbox. It sometimes have gear change lag and the engine would reach 2200+ rpm due to that. What i am concerned was the engine and the gearbox. This is not the case for SMB1H from my observation so far.
I am going to judge based from experience as a regular passenger.
Ride Comfort and Quality:
KUB ride comfort is really bad but with the new batch of them coming in, the jerking problems seem to have disappear. But, of course i saw KUBs that weren't manafactured properly. I spotted airleaks at the rear of some KUBs and i've seen the poles vibrate.
OC500LE Ride comfort is overall quite good. No jerks and quite soft seats. Spotted no airleaks in all of them but i spotted a leak at the wheel hub of SMB11D. The bus splattered water from the road during rain and the water seeped through the leak. The bus floor ended up being wet. Apart from that, i award the win for this category to OC500LE.
Mercedes OC500LE: 1
Scania KUB: 0
Ride Noise:
KUB ride noise is quite toleratable despite of the loud howling from the engine and the ZF gearbox.
The OC500LE is quite quiet inside but the Bus Annnouncement System is something that most commuters don't like and some refered the 'BAS' as irritating.
I award the win to KUB for this category.
MB OC500LE: 1
Scania KUB: 1
For me, it's a tie.
Although the OC500LE is quieter than a Scania inside, it is louder on the exterior. So its a blessing in disguise (or more like a consolation, since its going to be a boring place) for me when 238 changed its O.405s for the new Scanias, quieter nights than before. (I stay at a low level). You stand at YCK terminal, a OC500LE will roar pass, but a Scania wouldn't.
Manual and auto leveling:
Both are crap. Although the Merc one seems a bit crappier. A Mk 4 DM3500's manual levelling can win both of them in terms of comfort. The best auto levelling buses to appear in Singapore however are the Scania L113CRLs/CRBs (as an option), Scania L94UBs and low floor Volvos.
The Scania K230UB's levelling system is a tad jerky, but doesn't bring much discomfort to the passengers. The Merc, although not jerky, in fact its quite smooth, is a bit uncomfortable as it tends to bounce when auto levelling, when the bus does several auto levelling acts consecutively, it bounces around and does make passengers a bit queasy.
Conclusion, you are better off in the 1990s and early 2000s than now in terms of buses.
Like comparing apple and guava. For comfort wise, speed, reliable, durable its Merc win hand down.Scania K230 a bit underpowered,Good for stop and go city like SG.I prefer the MAN 16.240 @ Volvo B7RLE much more than KUBs.
Originally posted by tintinspartan:I spotted airleaks at the rear of some KUBs and i've seen the poles vibrate.
The poles vibrating is due to some problems with the design of the bus. If you realise, only poles at the standing area vibrate more than the others. The poles at the standing area links from the floor of the bus to the horizontal connecting pole above. The other poles are either linked to the side of the bus or linked to the seats. It shows that the lower floor has more vibrations maybe due to the engine below.
The Volvo B7RLE has totally different design. The poles does not vibrate as the poles at the standing area are linked to more poles to stop vibration and also protects the PIW.

bouncing means when the bus cross through the hump, whole bus will SHAKE.
