Hi there,
I am new here. Was formerly a bus driver with SBS more than 10 years ago.
Its a real shame that the Mercedes O405 has to go. It was one of the buses which I had really enjoy driving it.
Although the acceleration leaves much to be desired, especially when taking steep slopes, driving it is quite easy and comfortable.
Corners taking were good, when they were on bigger tires (formerly 11R22.5x16, now 275/80x22.5).
I had driven SBS302E, SBS488C,SBS88Z and SBS93D. I had served on services 174, 190 and 66.
As I was standby driver, so I was never assigned a perm bus.
302E has the best acceleration. Why do you like 488C?
Think very very few people know that it was using a different engine. All the O405 is using the naturally aspirated OM447 engine, while 302E is using a turbocharged one with 250hp.
Anyway the bus specs in sgwiki is not entirely correct. All SBST O405 (except 302E) gives out 220hp and 890Nm, while the SMRT O405 gives out 255hp and 1190Nm, not 890Nm.

How do you feel about the new Scania K230UB replacing the Mercz O405s?

There wasn't any slbp 10 years ago. either bbdep, jrdep or jrbp he was under based on the service he drove.

Then don't bother asking here. And same theory here.Do u think we are superman for u to single out that 'weird engine noise' Merc of urs if u just give us info like that?U urself say that u were at home the time u heard the noise. So do u think everyone of us here were at ur house the time that Merc went past for us to help u identify which Merc it was?Damn ridiculous man.I shall just forget abt this matter.
Hi I am back.
How do you guys know that it was called bbdep? You know people in the depot? bbdep is the prefix on the driver's time sheet. You guys seems to be familiar about the depot operations.
Was usually at bbdep, but was also assigned to jrbp (66) or arbp (95). jrbp was previously known as jrdep before merging with bb/ar to become jrbp (at least was during my time). So now it is known as slbp.
Hope to see more brands of buses on the road. This will make joyrides more interesting. Haven't driven the K230UB, so can't tell which is better. But definitely better than the Nissan Diesel U31. Driven once, and will never forget it.
Have a question. Why do you guys say that buses in arbp/bbdep and amdep/brbp are interchangeable? Thought buses are deployed from depots to depots?

I see.
Actually the control of buses between arbp/bbdep and slbp is the same. Yeah, I agree somehow buses in slbp and bbdep do not cross over often. I actually did not notice that when I was with SBS.
During my time both locations was under the same superintendent, or depot manager. I do not know about now. I saw many buses parked at the interchanges. Seems that the population of the buses has grown significantly. Back then, arbp/bbdep/jrbp combined has slightly less than 800 buses.

160 and 506 are BBDEP service in jurong east leh, 198 on boon lay service is not only that case.

JE is closer to bbdep (9 mins off svc runtime) compared to slbp (19 mins off svc runtime)...

other side is bukit merah. bukit merah is BBDEP/ARBP mah. 198 is one of the rare ones, under BBDEP instead of ARBP. lol they should switch 198 with 14 XD
I see thanks for the info bro.

Interesting.
I have always wondered why there's so much difference in power between the SBST and SMRT 0405s. The difference is too great to be due to gearbox/body weight alone...

I have another question. Does anyone know why is slbp call a bus park and not a depot?
Has anyone ever seen a bus service split between arbp and bbdep, or slbp and arbp etc.
No doubt it is true that slbp has its own spare buses, this is the only reason why it does not swap buses between the bus parks. slbp being termed as a bus park is not without reason.
Similarly back then, when jrdep was renamed jrbp the depot management moved over to bbdep.
slbp houses only the control operations, while the depot management is probably under bbdep.
I am just sharing my thoughts. No offence. Please correct me if I am wrong.

answering to ur questions,
1) slbp is also depot. this can be found at the 2 bus stops pole just outside SLBP, naming the location " Soon Lee Depot"
2) no.

Yeah it's really sad but wat to do?All this is that LTA's decisions and no one can stop them unless if they wish to be like Johor and use the Mercs for over 20 years. But that would nvr happen in singapore. So no matter how powerful the Mercs and the other buses are in singapore, their life is very limited and they have to go off very quickly unlike in other countries where buses serve for more than 20 years. The Mercs and the other buses in singapore are really very unlucky. This Mercs power could last for abt another 10 years.A pity that they are not allowed to serve more than 19 years.![]()
