Just by observation cos I did not read up on these roads before:
Previously Whitley Rd, Jln Toa Payoh, Jln Kolam Ayer, Paya Lebar Way existed as normal trunk roads.
All roads were expanded and merged to form the current PIE.
last time Circuit Rd was joined from Paya Lebar Way where the CC is.
Kim Keat Rd had a junction/flyover with Jln Toa Payoh where the current Kim Keat Flyover is.
Mount Pleasant Rd was a side road to Whitley Rd - same as the current one but different is that you can turn right from Mt pleasant to Whitley towards Stevens Rd and vice versa.

Gagak Selari Barat - around Lower Delta Rd
Entire roads in undeveloped areas in the North East (Cheng Lim farwmay 1, Buangkok South Farmway 1, Lor Sengkang were demolished) - Sengkang New Town Was name after Lor Sengkang
Gagak Selari Barat and Gagak Selari Timor were re-named Jalan Bukit Merah in Oct 1970. Gagak Selari Selatan was a crescent road southward of Lower Delta Rd and was re-named Lower Delta Rd when it was extended to Kampong Bahru Rd.
Sengkang New Town was originally known as Kangkar New Town (港脚新镇) when the town was under planning. It was re-named to Sengkang in 1995. Construction of flats started in 1996 in Rivervale.
Today, the cross junction of Punggol Rd and Sengkang East Way is in the past the cross junction of Punggol Rd, Lorong Serangoong Kechil & Lor Buangkok.

Ayer Rajah Rd was between Alexandra Rd and Clementi Rd, Upper Ayer Rajah Rd was from Clementi Rd until Jln Ahmad Ibrahim. The section between Alexandra Rd and Keppel Rd was constructed much later, as an expressway.

think I made a mistake =x Gagak selari barat is lower delta , not MacPherson. Pesiaran Keliling is MacPherson Estate
Circuit Rd was actually known as Pusaran Sekelilingan, direct translation into English.
Merpati Rd, Mattar Rd, Balam Rd & Pipit Rd were all named after birds.
