As you all know that Sv 190 is a heavily demand service everyday and always has the bendies to cover up all the passengers. Have you all ever wondered what will happen if all the bendies are gone since LTA restricted the use of bendies due to taking up more road space. Should Sv 190 be handed back to SBST to deploy double-decks to cover up the passengers?? This has been running through my mind for a couple of weeks.
Strongly yes... I don't want it the case again whereby people CANNOT board the last svc 190 bus from town area especially BS 09213 (Thong Teck Building, Scotts Rd, in the direction towards Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange)
yeah yeah, even though 190 quite frequent, always packed one, especially during rush hours eg. after work

Comparing the stated limits...
Vo3x batch 1: seats 93 + stands 38 = total 131
Vo3x batch 2: seats 92 + stands 38 = total 130
Vo3x batch 3: seats 84 + stands 55 = total 139
O405G habit: seats 59+ stands 73 = total 132
O405G volgren: seats 59 + stands 73 = total 132 (none on 190...just for comparison's sake)
O405G mk1: seats 54 + stands 89 = total 143
O405G mk2: seats 59 + stands 73 = total 132
So I wonder if its the human problem or the bus problem on 190, obviously the bendy sits and stands more on all counts (save for vo3x batch 3s)...I believe you can squeeze more on the bendy too, hence more passengers, whereas on a double deck you can't...

I really doubt SBST can do better if it were handed over back to them. Take into account the dramatic population increase over the last few years since 190 was handed to TIBS/SMRT...of course our buses seem more packed now and SBS/SBST would have seem to have done better... ![]()

Bendies can release more passengers per minute while for double deckers, just imagine everyone squeezing through one staircase to get from the upper saloon to the lower saloon...

Add this on to mine..forgot this point. A double decker spends more time at a bus stop if its crowded, passengers trying to get on have to squeeze in that small aisle and wait for the alighting ones from the upper saloon...then the one from the lower saloon alights, then the passengers start to board...those that want to climb to the upper saloon do it...then find that there's no seats, comes down...repeat this process at a few bus stops and I think we have a problem.
After LTA take over the central planning of bus routes, which should be some time this year, we might be able to see some changes...
Problem of Service 190 or so coined is a long standing matter... Some points: Add buses? Shifts and work hour of many bus captains would be affected. Add more AM/PM shifts? Then the S shifts would have to be taken away (no extra buses), affected the peak hour load. The main point of this is not the peak hour load, but the abnormal off-peak hour load of this service. From 2100-2400 hrs on Fridays and Saturdays and special days such as festive season, there is also evening peak hour-like load on the service. Basically, just visualise a peak hour situation for this service from 1700-2400 hrs That is the unique situtation.
Adding buses, not the best way, re-arranging shifts, also a headache and affects evening peak hour. Some other solutions would be operate it as a duo-operator, which would have to see LTA's approval or whether it would be considered.
If sv 190 will be given back to SBST, be prepared to see B9TL, VO3X and some MK4 into the fleets. Also at the same time can do Premium 555, 556 and 557 at the same time during the morning peak.
