Had a recent encounter. An Indian National man boarded bus 358, asked the PRC bus driver this question, "this bus goes Pasir Ris Beach?" Guess what, the bus driver stared blankly at the guy even when the question was repeated again. My sister has to reply him. Not targetting the PRCs working in Spore but they should recognise that this is a multi cultural country. Right? But this message doesnt seem to get through....
i encounter before oso
one chicken one duck
the ang moh pai lao auntie lan lan, still tap card and sat down
can't rber where she said she was going but she was on the right bus
i hate it when they compromise quality of service with labour cost
not to mention their driving skills suxx
suka suka break
and sometimes overshoot the stop
cos they got their driviing licenses from china...
n they still think they r driving in china...
n they think sbs hires them cos of their "good driving skills"
on one hand, i think the drivers should master basic english well..
on the other hand, i feel passengers should plan their trips well too..
so, it takes two hands to clap.
What if it is a tourist ? You can't expect them to know abt the route or ppl who are new th the estate. Anyway, I've heard that the PRC BCs in Tampines region got involved in a fight amongst themselves at their home and were sent back. Annyone know abt this ?
as long as they drive safely & don't "drift" the buses can liao..

Lol... thank you! It is true sometimes... they have to remember that they are tasked to drive by the 'Rhd'... not the 'Lhd' rule... unless they want to see traffic police in their rear-view mirrors...![]()

Then you may start to see lots of poor K230s and others for example... being 'written-off' for scrap... Maybe... SBST may soon awaken itself to searching and recruiting award-winning drivers from (well... hopefully) Europe, especially UK...![]()

I find it weird how come the bus companies are unable to attract housewives and retirees into becoming BCs. And also those low income people such as delivery drivers, pest control technicians etc - their gross salary is only average about $950-1200.
Anyway with only a class 3 driving licence, one can begin to apply for BC as training is provided to drive class 4A buses.
And I wonder if our bus companies got any bias against ex-convicts? If so, I hope they can adopt the Yellow Ribbon Project and give these people a chance to re-integrate into our society and become BCs. Our govt is actively encouraging; so i strongly believe our bus operators should support! Please don't create "a second prison" for them by rejecting them!

thats why i suggest our bus operators to be more flexible in the employment conditions to attract more drivers from different walks of life (ranging from low income earners to housewifes, retirees and even ex-convicts!). Maybe a low basic salary for typical short working hours, followed by OT to attract those who want to earn more (but existing limit still applies to prevent overworking which compromise safety).
Perhaps should start to target more on low-income earners to drive public buses. Its sad to learn of some breadwinners earning a miserable $950/mth or even juggle two jobs to support the whole family with several children. Becoming a BC can help to boost their income and improve their lifes if they are determined to work hard.
Should also tie up with WDA and MPs to recommend those in financial difficulties (like cannot find jobs, struggle to make ends meet etc) to becoming BCs!~~
