wow. that's weird.
I may be remembering wrong stuffs, but see if i can get the my theory right. PS if i get my whole explanation wrong.
NRs are basic plus services, similar to the Fast Forward services, where the routes can slightly differ based on traffic or BC's choice. In FFw services the routes are altered to avoid certain high traffic stretch, but for NR its "as long as the BC reaches the next stop" can already even if alter the route slightly.
Yes, they are able to change the route as long the bus reaches the next stop.
My experience:
I was on SBS1902S(when it held the Dove ad) on svc 30. It came out of Boon Lay Int and turned right instead of left as there was a jam at the vicinity(pardon me if i spelled wrongly) of Jurong Point. It turned right and went to Jurong West Ctrl 3. But there was no stop around it and the next bus stop from Boon Lay Int is after Jln Boon Lay.
Originally posted by Stucktoes:Hi guys. I have been taking night rider for a sometime, and I like the services, cos it allows me to stay out late without wasting too much on transport. But one thing i realized recently is that for certain part of the route, the buses seem to go on different route all the times.
For example i stay at pasir ris, so i take nr7 from heeren. It will eventually ends at pasir ris, but sometimes i noticed that the bus passes by the bus stop opposite temasek poly, and sometimes, it doesnt. There was this time it even goes the opposite direction by stopping at the bus stop RIGHT outside TP.
So I'm a little lost, are the drivers allowed to change their route as long as people gets home or do they forget since its a long journey?
It's like 3N and 174e. It totally depends on whether the bc wants to take which route as long as they reached to the destination on time. But as some of you noticed if you all got take 174e, those bc can take the Ngee Ann Poly route to get to Jln Jurong Kechil but instead they took the Farrer Rd & Bukit Timah Rd.
They can elect to take any route they wish, as long as they call at the bus stop(s) they're supposed to call at...
ahh..learnt something new today..
better that way so they can avoid traffic jams along the way..
Midnight will jam de ah? lol
but....
Simei Ave (opp Changi Hosp)
Temasek Poly
Tampines Ave 5 bus stop??
huhh??
maybe TS can be more precise rah.
the 3N/30/174e/89e all okay2 nia.. but this one is just
at this moment.
do u sometimes take the then-7N?

No lah, but then again, it just might...some drivers also prefer taking a certain route as opposed to some others, then some want a change of environment everytime they drive that route...it's quite flexible at night.

talking about that... I once saw 8192C going down upp bt timah turning into jln anak bukit. den 525D emerged from the PIE a min or so after. Wonder which one is the late one or which one is the early one.

got 3 routes actually. From fastest to slowest
1st is the Ngee Ann Poly route.
2nd is the Farrer Rd then to PIE.
3rd the slowest and also the most commonly used route for 174e is to follow the normal 174 route, which is the Farrer Rd then to Bukit Timah Rd.

Yea.. I agree... of course commuters will want reach their destinations as fast as they can while calling at the usual bus-stops.

I think BC went the wrong way that day. LOL....
I think NR services usually driven by part-time drivers.
And also usually too many turns in the neighbourhood. BC drive liao oso confused.

There was one time a 174e bus pass by Holland Rd.
There was a time when i drove NR7 i skip Geylang due to massive jam there nd the front bus is just 2 mins ahead of me,But of course first of all i ask the pax whether they want to alight there or not.A lot of NR SLs do that...No wonder some pax wait for an hour.
i've also seen svc 61 going into the one way road after exiting from tanglin halt road..instead of turning right to commonwealth drive, it went straight to queensway skipping 2 stops along commonwealth drive..prc driving..
Now now let's not degenerate this into a SMRT Sl lost way thing....
my experince
NR7 ride on the NYE 2008
boy check out that crowd at Esplanade. Oh man jam at Clrake Quay
3 buses bunched up including my bendy on NR7
eventually we do reach Pasir Ris town.
We had picked up 3 paxs from Downtown East but their "Layover" point was near Loyang Pt along PSR Dr 3. my Sl found the two of his buddies parked there.
After 2 mins of discussion it was probably determined that one wd do full route. already 1 hr wait downroute by then.
My SL then proceeded alg the route. many pax alighted, leaving me with two other pax. The Sl then surveyed where we want to go.
pax 1: Bugis
pax 2: Eunos mansion Jln Eunos
me the pax: Somerset MRT
the SL then proceeded to enter the PIE after Bedok Nth rd (skip[piong bedok resv rd) we ended up at eunos mansion.
left me and the Bugis guy
we retnered the svc route by then and shucks, we still see one of the NR7 ard us.
We did the bunny hop, "skipping a bus stop when the other NR7 was calling". And the other fella likewise zipped past us when we were at a bus stop picking paxs.
i suppose they managed to chase some 7 mins of run time by that processes and manged to catch up some of their time.
juz to share my exp since i also frequent on NRs
