Huh? You haven't try yet?

I thought the new buses are supposed to have at least a decent fuel economy, since it makes up a large part of their operating costs?

Yups. Definitely better than the old buses, but the SBST KUBs consume more gas than the SMRT Buses OCs...

Haven't try a route that can have it hit 60kph. Sv3 I took from PSR to TAM ley, where you want to chiong.

Aiyoh~... Should take the express sector between Punggol and Pasir Ris instead...

really? i dunno abt Euro 5 but Euro 4 is fuel efficient. proven on svc 174.

No time. Was doing 88 and behind got cameo which was coming around 45mins later then just take one alight at somewhere along the route tehn take back.

Yes it is fuel efficient. But it is also less efficient than the SMRT Buses OCs... In terms of miles to the gallon... Remember that there was some stastistics about it somewhere in the forums some time ago...

It does consume alot of fuel (close to 69 litres per 100km) for an engine with horsepower rating of 230. SMRT's OC with 299 consumes much lesser than that (If I'm not wrong it's somewhere about 45 litres per 100km).

Maybe it is becoz of aircon? Aircon does consume a lot of fuel rite? The KUBs A/C much more powerful than the SMRT OCs...

lower revolve rating? cos it changes gear quite fast. oh, comparing to OC

I tot both are six gear buses, so will change gear quite fast? Should be same if that were the case...

Different methods of exhaust treatment used.
OCs use SCR or Selective Catalytic Reduction, which uses urea resin (AdBlue) to convert harmful NOx compunds into water vapour and harmless nitrogen gas. Probably the main disadvantage of using such a method is the introduction of an extra tank that adds on to the weight of the bus. However it is proven that SCRs allow lesser fuel consumption rates.
The Euro EEV KUBs use EGR or Exhaust Gas Recirculation. This technique cools a portion of the exhaust gas before allowing it to be introduced into the engine which therefore leads to a lower combustion temperature. Advantages of this are that there is no added inconvenience to the driver because he doesn't need to top-up AdBlue. Adding on to that there is no extra weight added to the vehicle due to the extra tank having to be installed. However by lowering the combustion temperature you affect the performance of the engine, and also it has also been proven that EGRs increase fuel consumption due to increased concentration of recycled gases in the engine.
Having said that is it much better to spend on AdBlue than spend more on diesel? Plus consuming more diesel relates to causing more environmental damage.
Perhaps someone can vet my reply to see if I missed out any points or highlighted any of them wrongly.
eh, sorry, i dunno u guys are comparing with OC.. I thought u guys were saying SBST Euro 4 and 5

You mention about the Euro V/EEV SBST ones... Are the Euro IV the same in that aspect(using EGR?)?
okay .. my first Euro V kub experience , i boarded 8566H on 36 , the bus was stuffy , the bus sounded like KMB's Dennis Dragon during the pick-up and the ending , it was like voith .. other then that the bus sound kind off 8033D too , got the swedish feeling ... overall still kind of good , just watch , a few more monthss .. (:
My first Euro EEV ride was on 8573.. Nothing much to comment... Only one: The vibrations are exactly the same like the OAC N113CRB's though it's not so ''heavy'' ![]()
Why I see but no chance to try huh?
u stay in the west hor ? wait until Euro v come Soon Lee lor ...

I don't think SLBP would take in the Euro 5s so soon because almost all of their Mercs are refurbished and the rest are also getting refurbished. So there wouldn't be much space for the Euro 5s for now as long as the Mercs have their lifespans extended which is exactly what is happening now.![]()
If u had noticed,SLBP seems to be taking in the least amount of kubs until now. They are also one of the depots who have the least amount of kubs.![]()

- Ugly front EDS, surely e side EDS can look like 8030L. Trying to act SMRT?
Seriously can you think further? How you expect them take out the cover to repair the side EDS when it will be blocked by the granny seat if it is being installed lower?

Don't forget, those like SBS83L 87B 88Z 89X etc, going off in June 2009.
