I dun think maintaining them would be cheap too. Provided that the no instance of occurrence that they would breakdown is higher.
Moreover, where you want to them put the new bus @?
Just saw this on SBS8051B this afternoon on sv48[heading twds Buona Vista]...
On the Driver's console panel... notice the red button "Engine Fire" then 2 buttons to the left of this button which has a 0 on the top of the button and a odometer at the bottom of this button. This functions like a cruise control once it hurts 60km/h...
The BC press the bottom part of this button when he hit 60km/h, he then left his foot off the accelerator and rested on the floor panel while the bus speed stayed at 60km/h. When the bus went up the ramp[Fort Rd], it actually gain speed and change gear so as to be able to climb up the ramp while the BC did not step on the accelerator!
However when the bus is about to climb the ramp on Benjamin Sheares Bridge, it was not able to do this and the BC press the 0 and stepped on the accelerator 1st[not the brake] he regain control of the acceleration to bring the bus up the slope... simply Amazing!
Second observation: The driver cab has a soft light for his own use... Just look at the row[above the BC's head to the right] where the EDS buttons are

Put elsewhere....Sungei Kadut or Batam, or the depot in the far east or far west.

There is a cruise control function on all batch one Scania K unless modified. Works by activating the cruise control and setting the speed in a menu. Speed set can be 20 - 60 km/h.

U can start to do that if u own SBS Transit.

Yup, BBDEP took in Euro 5s but till now most of them are still unassigned and running around as spare replacements. Maybe service 175 getting them soon?
Whereas HGDEP's Euro 5s were mainly to strengthen more K230UBs on those services that already had perm Euro 4s, no new services getting K230UBs. Based on the recent deployment trends. And also noticed that HGDEP took in another batch of Euro 5s only after the earlier ones got assigned to perm services last month.
BNDEP might not be taking much Euro 5s at the moment maybe due to too much Euro 5 intakes from the start.
The remaining Merc based depots need to take in mass Euro 5s to replace the outgoing Mercs.

or is it BB is helping to "safe-keep" its eevs for other depots for now?
Scania Cruise Control
I guess this function has been around. Some of my own opinions, no check about the ffacts. pls kindly correct me.
first thing i wonder is who invented cruise contro, Scania or Mercedes??
For Scania i heard of Cruise Control in 2003 only. When my fren xplained how a Cruise Control function keeps the bus at a constant speed pre selected by the Scania bus driver.
1) Cruise control keeps engine running at optimal settings at the set speed by drvier
2) may save fuel
3) driver cna relax. a bit at the controls. (less feet stress) heh.
For Scania Coach (the EB and IB series), it is called optic Cruise.
I have heard that the cruise controle xists on Scania k230UB, i guess mr 1688 saw it in pure action.
---------------
As a comparison to Scania i read up on Mercedes benz Trevago coach Cruise Control.
some amzing technology is sued, besdies the basic crusie ontrol functions and abilities stated above, the Merc also has
Lane control.
This keeps the bujus in lane along a highway. For super long distances. Optic cameras observe bus lane makers and auto stablise the bus inside the highway lane. Particualrly safety feature is when the driver nods off and bus sways , the lane control will sway the bus back into the lane.
Distance relaated cruise control
as mentioned above, what if a car slows down in front, again optic cameras snese this slowing down of traffic and adjust bus speed to slow down. then when traffic picks up, the cruise control will auto adjust back to the set speed (usually very high like 90km/h)
Suspect:
Sscania optic Cruise sues optic camera tecnology as well.
again who invented thse things first?
merc or Scania..
anyone know?
ZYX
If i recall corrrectly, cruise control was present in batch 1 (most of them disabled) and subsequently the rest of the Scanias had this feature removed from the spec sheet while constructing.
In a start-stop environment where most Scania K230UBs are serving, this feature isn't feasible.

MAN installed cruise control on all SAF MAN 16.284 LAERC 5-Ton when it was delivered in year 2001, . so might not just between Scania and Merc. Does SBS8031J installed with cruise control?
Cheers.

MAN installed cruise control on all SAF MAN 16.284 LAERC 5-Ton when it was delivered in year 2001, but it was subsequently de-activated due to some accidents suspected to be linked with cruise control. Think SBST de-activate it due to some safety concern too?
Cheers.
