It was clear that the reporter was even less impressed.
kindly explain and elaborate? from what i have read up on the article, i felt that the report was ok. just like any other articles that comes out from the straits times. in the first place, how do you know that the reporter was not impressed?
if you are not impressed with the report, there's no need to voice this out. you already have a negative impression with some of the bus fans here and you are trying to make it worse. we can't stop you if you want to do that, but you are certainly disgracing the bus fan community by criticising negatively on a article which should boost the bus fan community further in the eyes of the public.
In my opinion, the reporter was a little last minute in doing the article. By default, the article was supposed to released yesterday but the reporter Cheryl Tan actually msg me that the news will be out on monday, which happens to be today.

Actually...
If you haven't realise.
i have been pretty objective.
I wasn't going after the reporter's throat, and I agree that if the report comes out this way, then it wasn't to be unexpected, nor is it something I can do about.
If a forum is not where I should voice out....then I should do it on the streets, get myself arrested, and then go onto newspaper screaming: "YOU ARE BIASED!!" ?

NONONO Derick did a wonderful job. It is just the way the reporter made the article. It was laced with sarcasm at the very end.

Most unfortunately, the conclusion is usually the one that leaves the greatest impression on the reader.![]()

Too bad.

Originally posted by Fryderyk HPH:Yup. To be fair I think Derick did an awesome job in standing out as the spokesperson... But how the reporter phrased the article leaves much to be desired...
If you analyse and analyse again and again for the last sentence, you would find the sarcasm in the statement... The reporter only looking for juicy info, imho...
I didn't think so. It's a really neutral statement.

Still I'll disagree with this part. The article gives a very balanced view, but did not seek to taint the hobby.

It depends on individuals.
Those in the loop will take it as such.
What about those whose first-hand exposure to such people is only this article? The impression left would be distasteful...
And certainly, the opinion of the reporter was laid bare and naked....it was a strongly-opinionated statement.
But then I don't blame her....not totally. It depends on how the readers will take to the article as well.

Ok. I understand your viewpoint.

i know he did. i stated that i felt that the report was ok. rather balanced. of significance to bus fans. just because i didn't say that he didn't do a wonderful job, doesn't mean that i don't know that he did a good job.
the last sentence in the article may have shown some sarcasm but i would say that that sentence is rather balanced because most people in the public who has no prior knowledge to such a hobby would probably find such a hobby a waste of time and a "weird" hobby to embark on (apologies to those who feel offended by this statement) but as time goes, the significant presence of such a hobby being known to more and more people will probably change the general public's view about such a hobby so i feel that this statement is balanced.

I think you all read too much into the last sentence (or the word "weird") than to read it as part of the whole story in a contextual manner. Let's not forget that "weird" comes with "perks". If they wanted to go all the way, I think it'll end with "What a weird hobby."

I cannot disagree with that.
Ultimately I too, cannot tell people to think the way I did over the last sentence.
As to whether it is trivial or not, that, only time will tell.
Personally, I don't think it's a helpful statement, people are easily cajoled by words, remember the incident about how some people had a uproar when they read about how a girl "depends on her parents" and "spends a lot"?
I cannot remember the exact phrasings, but the poor girl complained that she was misquoted and stuff like that. Such is the power over the choice of words.
It cannot be taken lightly. Neither can it be read too deeply. Thus I wasn't too upset over it, but I could more or less confirm that people are still uncomfortable with the notion of "bus fanatics" (as the article states).

I agree with you. The article is quite balanced. Other than the word 'fanatic', I dont really see any word with a negative connotation. Derick used the word 'weird' too and I dont see any problem with that.
Anyway, I thought this is the 4th Amazing Race being organised if the one by SBST in 2007 is to be counted?

Might as well plan for JB and back. At least two temperature scans at no cost! ![]()

If it's anything, it would be reflecting the opinon of the reporter.

looking at the posts you made. you'll prolly cause the image of the community to go down the drain, no down the pacific ocean.
