I dunno but e interview seems funny and sometimes it's full of imagination.
She says it's good for her co if everyone takes the MRT as it cuts down travelling time. But it would mean all the buses would be concentrated to feeder linkage to e MRT stations.
She also said that the operators are looking at new bus routes that would improve their bottomline. so it's better when LTA takes over e planning
At the same time, she mentioned that both transport operators have diff thinking onto operating their respective co.
ok lor.
build your own line using your own funding. go under or over EVERY main road in singapore. yes. incuding tuas south ave 7.
like that then i will switch to mrt.

e buses, her bus fleet is so horrible.. bendy bus e rubber thing all rubbing with e road surface alrdy.
bus rts? alamak, SMRT has not been intro new bus svs other than 950 or Premium.. as for bottomline, it's really lame! dun tell me you intro a new bus rt tat's not what ppl want, how can it be profitable like Sv 5 or 185?
so it means to say, bus biz not even worth to improve at all..
everyone take MRT? sure or not? end up w/ new lines, still only NSL to serve Orchard leh.. so MRT can be 1 min per train?

Want to cut down travelling time? Want to earn more money?
Simple. Introduce Japan-style limited stopping service :
Semi : Boon Lay -> Jurong East -> Buona Vista -> Outram Park all stops until Bugis -> Paya Lebar -> Tanah Merah -> [Tampines -> Pasir Ris] OR [Changi Airport]
Express : Boon Lay -> Interchange Stations Only + Tanjong Pagar -> Pasir Ris
Morning Express : Ang Mo Kio -> Yishun -> Woodlands -> Choa Chu Kang -> Jurong East -> Same as Above
Then put trains with long-distance style seating, then charge double or even premium fares.
If you really want imagination, then be prepared to invest into the system. Or better still, ask LTA to foot the bill for the new bypass tracks!

gotta spend money to accquire land and build new tracks..
but dun think CBD areas esp Shenton Way & Orchard can take it anymore

That's good by my standard already - I'm thinking a branch line with 45 minutes frequency. ![]()

60 mins freq is possible cos of 926.. ![]()
but these kind of fantastic freq to maintain e viability of e MRT, might as well use buses
Originally posted by ^tamago^:they just want to eat into routes already made profitable by SBST in SBST territory, cos they can’t even tackle their own areas. give them mature areas like Bt Batok and CCK also cannot survive. zzz.
they want ppl to plan rts for them
anyway their bus svs isn't anywhere better than SBS...
so say ppl should only take MRT
in e first place, end of e day same rules apply.. if tat's e rt ppl want, it'll be profitable and/ or high demand
oh yesh
she mentioned tat CCL would inccur losses for a short number of years. maybe reduce e number of trains operating along CCL3 lor since it affects her FY09/10
even e 55,000 ridership can't even meet, I wonder if it's e same for CCL1 & CCL2 esp on weekends
look at yishun new town. its a joke. west side still ok. east side is really /facepalm.
if can go buy e paper
cos it shows her w/ CCL train
Not everyone wants to be like squeezed sardines in a tin can. And sorry by looking at the Japanese rail sysyem, I feel it is really pathetic that everyone has to be pushed to be squeezed into the carrige, really no life. And being an inflexible and fixed kind of transport mode, in situations of overpopulation and power failure and not to mention unexpected stews of incidents that can happen anytime to disrupt rail services, rail system is not the long term solution for all transport problems.
If one thinks that everyone likes to take rail, I think that it is a very simple minded and naive approach. For people who hate to take MRT, it is either buses for them else they will rather use their own transport. I am one of the example. I prefer personal comfort and flexibility rather than just rush your way without even know what is life. If one can argue buses are slower, why not take the own initiaive to plan your route ahead instead??? Plan early and be early. And being an overpopulated and going to be more populated nation in future, rail systems is not a solution to anything. And building one is not cheap and can't be done everywhere since many parts of the country is made up of soft soil composites and above ground structures gets heavier and heavier as the population grows. Operating is not cheap either.
Well, for someone who have not been squeezed like a sardine in a tin can before, no wonder such people can have build such kinds of castles in the air.
Just hope that one day one of the MRT tunnel collaspes because of overpopulated structures above, then we would see what kind of chaos we have when the public transport system is just solely relying on one mode.
For a company that doesn't know its customers needs but only know how to benefit itself, no wonder it is always in the red.

I like your idea..
Does this mean i can listen to Class 95 on the Morning Express train route as mentioned above?

nice say!
i myself oso prefer to have a slow and steady ride instead of squeezing into trains. and trains really doesn't bring you to anywhere yyou wan. the benefit is jus fast i think. cos i dun enjoy trains ride cos of their hard plastic chair.

If FM frequency can be received in tunnels, should be no issue.

Tunnel collapse is a bit far-fetched, but they better jolly well make sure maintenance is done properly - In the UK, either trains don't run during weekends or they jump track killing people because the tracks got broken after years of negelect.
Regardless of what the CEO thinks, at end of the day people will hold the government responsible simply because SMRT is a GLC.

I wonder how long can our MRT tunnels last?
Originally posted by tranquilice:I wonder how long can our MRT tunnels last?
With maintenance, basically forever. The Thames Tunnel, built in 1869, is still able to run subway trains through it, though they had to close it 3 years for repairs.

Don't blame system, boost SMRT operations
MRT isn't like buses, you can't do adjustment overnight on a bigger scale cos time is needed to upgrade signal system and number of trains. Tat's to be fair to e system constraint.
But tat does not mean abt generating it into squeezing more ppl ending w/ bigger profits
