After which will be shortening for 190 to Bukit Panjang.
So that Choa Chu Kang residents take MRT to Orchard.
And Bukit Panjang residents DIE DIE must take LRT to Choa Chu Kang.
=)

later introduce 167 to shenton way and 167A to suntec city. then realised duplicate 162/162M from upp thomson road to shenton way, decided shortened to loop at marymount road (marymount mrt). ![]()

At the start of introduction of 190 in 1988, this service plies from Bukit Panjang to New Bridge Rd.
Correct me if I am wrong but there should be lots of paxs taking 190 to travel between CCK and town area so the effects will be big should 190 being shorten back to Bt Panjang.

Just joking. =)
Anyway, it might be the most unwanted reality if Downtown Line opens.
Bukit Panjang LRT will start making profits if they can manage to push CCK people to board the MRT and Bukit Panjang people to board LRT.
There's 975 by the way at the interchange. No need to board 67.

thing abt DTL is that if I were to alight at Newton to x-fer to NSL at Newton, there might be capacity crunch

Look at the Bukit Panjang LRT when it first opened.
179, 344, 345 was withdrawn.
920 was introduced after much complains by the whole estate, up to MP level and media. 922 subsequently introduced.
700 might have to go when DTL opens. 190 might also.
Hopefully it doesnt happen. =X
171 should be confirmed shortened to Bukit Panjang.

The problem is how much NSL can cope w/ e Orchard crowd. Even w/ more medium lines, it's still only NSL that would serve Orchard.

But i doubt they see it, unfortunately. =X

Yes.
Actually I hope they never have plans to open Downtown Line. Doesnt seem to convenience those in Bukit Panjang.
Look at me. 190, 700 and 960 downstairs. Just board and go. 30 mins and I reach Orchard.
If downtown line opens and they withdraw the 3 of them, I will have to take 963 to Bukit Panjang Int (15 mins), take DTL (25 mins) , then transfer at Newton then transfer to NSL (10 mins).
30 mins vs 50 mins.
The news reported DTL takes 25 mins to city from Bukit Panjang, compared to 1 hour to city from Bukit Panjang, in which they counted it as, we take LRT to Choa Chu Kang MRT (20 mins), then take MRT to Orchard (40 mins).

No. It's striking a balance over the reality of capacity crunch and the need for buses and expansion of rail network together
MRT can't serve everyone well, so there's where buses are needed w/ complement the MRT while having their own network.
MRT network still need to be expanded because it's to make public tpt a better choice

There are still demands for 167 between Jalan Bukit Merah and Shenton Way. Just because that stretch is usually very low on demand doesn't mean there's no demand. Evening peak hour is one example.

But seeing the trend on Sv 852 & 985's request, it could likely end up being e next target

If that's the case, more or less Sv 190 & 700 might be cut off when the bendies are gone, which people will have to rely on the new downtown line to get back to CCK/BP via DTL MRT.

If they wanted to, they would have done it long time ago. I doubt they will give up the Bukit Merah > Orchard competition to SBS Transit.
Is 167 the only service from Jalan Bukit Merah to Orchard?

167 to Suntec will definitely give this service a big load boost.

Except for the 2 pairs of bus stop, there's alrdy Sv 175
But anything can turn out esp after seeing application for 178, 852 & 985

Since you already make this comment, I see not point in discussing this anymore. Even if SMRT do so I have no say in it.
Given your thinkings, it seems to be in your opinion anything with even slight duplication would have to be eradicated.
Don't bother replying to this post as I have no wish to carry on discussion on this issues. Even if you do reply, do not expect any replies from me.
I seriously wonder where the people here are regular commuters on the services they are discussing about. Many suggestions and comments made will just make existing passengers freak out.
The issue isn't removing duplication of routes. As the way the application goes, even e solo bus svs like 178 bet Upp Bt Timah & Bt Batok are attempted to be killed into a peak hr service
If the operators decide that they're interested in any passenger load be it high or low, then 852 or 985 or 178's application would never have even have e chance to appear.
