700 might have to go when DTL opens. 190 might also.
Hopefully it doesnt happen. =X
171 should be confirmed shortened to Bukit Panjang.
why cut back 171?

It will duplicates DTL2 from Bukit Panjang to Newton, then duplicates NSL from Newton to Dhoby Ghaut, then duplicates CCL1 from Dhoby Ghaut to Esplanade.
I hope that when DTL2 opens, service 171 will be cutback to become: Yishun - Bukit Panjang and then either merges with service 172 with a slight route change in Choa Chu Kang or merges with service 180. This new merged service will become: Yishun - Boon Lay.
i would rather see 171 extend to other places rather then cutback..
but whatever it is, mrt lines should not involve with bus svcs..

Where do you want the service to extend?
IMO, 11 & 62 can merge. Some trips on 62 can extend to Kallang Park, rendering 11 redundant.
171, if it is no longer allowed to go into CBD, should moerge with 180 and extend to SBW. This would become SBW to BNL via YIS, Mandai Camp, BPJ, BBT and JUE.
Hmm, how come SBST didn't think about extending 107 all the way to PGL considering this is the only suburb with no bus to CBD? 82 can function like another 882. The idea of merging 97 and 130 is also worth some thought.

extend till CCK..
sekali NSL cannot cope w/ Newton - Orchard stretch?

Add on 67, it travels parallel along DTL 2 from Bt Panjang to Little India. Currently it is oso travelling parallel wif EWL from Kallang to Bedok too. For this, will suggest tat either 67 or 171 would be affected. Remembered the old 182 under tibs was withdrawn due to duplication.
700 should be withdrawn and merged with 190 which will be diverted to ply along Petir Rd. Pax can still depend on 960 to get to Marina Ctr from Bt Panjang though.

921 was 're-introduced' too. However, it was withdrawn due to opening of new roads, & merged wit rapid 700. After that, it was renamed as 'normal' 700.

Svc 5 too, ppl complained no direct link from 6th avenue to commonwealth MRT. After which 970 was introduced to patch back the direct link.
Well, sengkang side oso kanna complain too after 85 (sengkang - harbourfront) was withdrawn due to NEL rationalisation. After which 119 was re-introduced from sengkang to kovan hub (similar route to 860 which was the 1st svc introduced by tibs in 1998).

921 was renumbered from 343 which was not affected by the BPLRT.
700 was no longer a 'rapidbus' even before 921 was merged with 700

700 was a Rapidbus when it was still plying between Woodlands and Shenton Way if im not wrong. As for NEL rationalisation, services like 97, 111, 106, 502 and etc had their routes cut or extended.

700 existed as a RapidBus even when it was shortened to Bukit Panjang. That was still long time before it merged with 921.

I liked the idea of merging service 97 and 23 to become Jurong East - Tampines.

If service 171 extends to Choa Chu Kang, it should merge with service 172 to become Yishun - Boon Lay as what I suggested above.

But what about Jalan Besar and Lavender St? Service 67 is the only service that links Lavender St to Little India MRT. It is also the only service that links Kallang MRT to Jalan Besar.

Anyway, it might be the most unwanted reality if Downtown Line opens.
Bukit Panjang LRT will start making profits if they can manage to push CCK people to board the MRT and Bukit Panjang people to board LRT.
There's 975 by the way at the interchange. No need to board 67.
Sekali 975 kena shorten to CCK.
But lets say if this really happen, SMRT better make sure the LRT is in top condition. Later one day break down the link between CCK and BP is gone then complains and hot heads will start all over again.

In that case, if 190 is cut back as well, DTL2 will sure become heavily packed. Dont forget its just 4 carriage per train. Its about the total load of 190 + 171 + 700.
I never trusted these fully automated systems. There are bound to be breakdowns some day. If theres not even a bus service between BP and orchard and only the MRT is available, any breakdown would surely cause chaos. Cant imagine if the stretch between Newton and BP all spoil. Free bus from Newton to BP?

Where did you get the info that DTL will be using 4-carriages train?
There's still service 170 from Newton station to Bukit Panjang station. I don't think this service will be affected by DTL, because the other 2 operators will be smiling if service 170 no longer terminates at Queen St.

There was consideration of extending Sv 107 to Punggol a few years back as heard from one of the perm BC. But the idea was called off.
I felt that run time for service 107 can be improved especially during off - peak hours.
Most of the time, most BCs will drive an average speed of 35 - 45 km/h throughout the journey except for those S-shifts BCs. If they want to drive at a fast speed, they may delay around 5 mins which may cause the waiting time to be even longer.
If the run time is improved, NE people can consider taking that service to town besides the MRT.
This is what I think/feel
