and about TIBS introducing 966 and not by SMRT, I don’t understand your anger. SMRT took over TIBS, So i just wrote SMRT.
Perhaps you have gripes of poor service by SMRT compared to TIBS

I agree and am glad that there are some services esp new ones that make travelling much easier.. but a place like MP which has rapidly developed along the years really lacks some links
No choice but to take Tampines for a comparison
Not just MP alone is facing this problem, in fact, the whole of Singapore is facing the same problem, because of the unnecessary population boom in the recent year. Infrastructures expansions cannot cope with this unnecessary population boom for the past 5 years or so. Not just transport alone is facing bottlenecks, many aspects of infrastructures are also facing problems as well.
Just hope that bus services will be here to stay in future, because rail services most likely are unable to cope with the increasing loads, plus rails are inflexible systems as compared to buses. Else private transport will still be a better option.

a lot of buses there use expresswayscan get to almost anywhere within 30 – 45 mins
You could put in that way. I also like Tampines because of the variety of bus services there. And Bedok is quite well linked too.

who are upset with very little services and some we have to walk to/from Marine Parade RdIn this thread, we will discuss how to get around to/fro MT as well as our wishlist for MT
ps. if u think this thread is irrelevant/unnecessary pls let me know
i’ll delete it
So who are the bus fans from Marine Terrace? Do you mind listing them out?
You are very fortunate to have 3 bus services plying Marine Terrace one-directional. Look at the residents living at Marine Drive and Marine Parade Central, they don't even have bus services plying there, hence the only choice is to walk to the main road.
You must know how transportation works.
You can have numerous buses plying from marine terrace to all other parts of singapore.
But a key factor as to how a hub works is location and demand.
You can say plenty of people would like connections from marine terrace to other parts of singapore, but who wants to go to marine terrace and is the demand enough? Or should the transport operators just provide a one way service?
In short there are many other solutions to your problem.
1) Move to a centralised or important node.
2) Call a cab.
3) Walk. Just like plenty of people do.
Ok, go conduct a survey of the whole marine terrace estate to see who agrees with you.
Then you might have a chance of talking.

but hey.. you only need a 5 min walk to get to PP.. which has a whole array of buses
Similarly, you only need 5 to 7 minutes to get to the Blk 57 bus stop, it has alot of services too, such as 31, 36, 43, 48, 55, 76, 135, 197, 541, 853.

just 15 to ply there would do.
I actually combined my wish for Marine Parade in whole to be connected to Yishun and Tampines with faster routes
And please stop suggesting cabs.
Well, we are already walking just quite a bit
Just that 15 in the morning rush hour plying along MT would really make a significant improvement
Service 15 did ply Marine Terrace towards Pasir Ris in the past, sometime in 1997 - 1998.

I am talking more about going to Opp Blk 57 stop.. nvm, you will think of another counter reply.. Guess to each his own gripes :)
Just cross the overhead bridge will get you there, isn't it? Ok, I do understand it is difficult for eldery and disabled to get from Marine Terrace to the bus stop opposite Blk 57. But the situation is that there is no right turn from Marine Terrace to Marine Parade Rd, buses heading towards Bedok South Ave 1 cannot ply Marine Terrace, there is no other choice unless LTA modify the junction.
how come no one thought of getting to Yishun via changi airport?
Secondary school students along marine parade should know the trick.. and students in marine parade studying in pasir ris/some parts of tampines.
Originally posted by jaaze:Yea I agree with the part on poor road planning within MP
The main reason why 13, 16 and 196 do not ply MT while returning towards the east, is that there is no way they can make their way out to Marine Parade Road, since the exit to the major road is one-way, west bound. Hence, they exit via Marine Cres, bypassing Marine Ter altogether to proceed to MP Rd.
If not for that, residents could simply alight at Blk 53 stop.

as far as I know, Tampines is the best place to get to almost everywhere quicklyAirport –
Yishun – 30 mins 969
Woodlands – 168 takes 45 mins .. go to airport police stn, opp take 858 to Seletar camp and transfer to 168 from there
think can save some time. not sure. but 168 wastes a lot time before getting on to the expresswaySim Lim/ Serangoon Rd - 23 - 10 minswhat else
need Yishun bound bus, as well as fast bus to Tamp.. 31 takes 45 mins.
Originally posted by jaaze:oh.. u rmb approx how long it takes?
I thought abt using this thread to share the routes I take to and fro MT to benefit the rest..To go to Yishun by bus as fast as possible, I used to:
- take 36 to airport. (20 min)
- Alight at airport police stn
- Use underpass to go opp
- Take 858 – only 30 mins from there to Yishun
Incl waiting time, it can range from 1 hr to 1 h 30 mins at times
btw, jay, i assume ur also staying in MP?

What is the approximate journey time for:
service 36 from Marine Parade to airport then transfer to service 858 to Yishun?
service 966 from Marine Parade to Jalan Toa Payoh then transfer to service 857 to Yishun?
