Cityshoppers is a fake "Prada" that has its demise coming some day.
If fares is approx $2.50, maybe the Fernvale folks might be more willing to turn to 578. $3.40 like 2 trips of MRT/ trunk service. Too ex.
Anyway, I redeemed a trip on Cityshopper using a breakdown ticket

cityshoppers should have been withdrawn long ago. its average load is lesss than 10 per bus. i feel its unavoidable. you tell me how to make money.

A point form of why Cityshoppers met its demise:
- Too expensive. ($3.60 for 1 trip you tell me you want to take boh??)
- Waiting time too long. (1/2 hr per bus can bored to death)
- Some highly demand bus-stops at Orchard Rd it does not serve although due to that it cannot cater all the bus services in 1 bus stop.
- Operates on weekdays off-peak when it is obvious that there is almost no one who will shop for Luis Vuitton handbags and Nina Ricci perfumes etc @ Orchard during working days. (If operate on weekdays peak hours then i suppose that demand will be there.)

Just curious, do you think SBST will have forseen these to happen? They have been around for decades and shouldn't they expect this result in one way or another?
If I'm not wrong, Cityshopper services was introduced after Premium svcs was launched right? Could the success of Premium services initiated the launch of Cityshopper svcs back then?

I miss CityShopper 576 or 579. For 576 and 579, took about 30 min to reach home. For 518, It took about 1 hours. Double of the time and called this service EXPRESS.

their express doesn't even feel like it's really express at all. -
To me, why ppl bother wasting money on CityShopper when there's already trunk services plying along the Orchard Rd shopping belt and Suntec City area? That's the reason why from 8 svcs initally, it was reduced to 4 and subsequently 3 at the end of 2008, and those CityShopper svcs do not really meet the adequate demand for the service since the day of introduction (if I can recall spotting CityShopper services on its 1st day at Dhoby Guaht MRT).

it came from an era on falling bus ridership. we won't be seeing any new services of such nature for a while to come now that the focus has shifted.

If you are using 1st day observation as a yardstick, your conclusion is very skewed. -
All I got to say is IMO 579 is the most suscessful CiTYSHOPPER in terms of pax load.
579 Bus stops plates have been stickered over. Still can see the number unlike 576 where they pull out the sticker... zz... -
