Volvo launch hybrid double-decker bus

London's iconic red double-decker buses are going greener. But, it's not the colour that is changing.
Volvo launched its new environmentally-conscious hybrid bus in London this week.
The bus combines an electric motor with a diesel engine. This reduces its fuel consumption when moving and cuts its emissions during stops. Add to this a reduction in engine noise and a smoother ride for a far more pleasant mode of transport for London's bus users.
--Reuters i wonder when this volvo double decker bus comming to singapore? It will help to cut cost for sbstransit and the red bus company is own by DelGro sbstransit main company.

i also wish, but an hybrid may not be that pratical, you need to charge using electricity, which comes from burning of fossil fuels in singapore in natural gas form or obtain from marina barrage....so it utimately still in one way or another pollute the environment, in addition, in singapore, if the DD will to come to singapore, the depots need a retrofit....
However, i welcome SBST taking in more volvo DDs...but most prop B9Tls bah

i think metroline under CDG is using hybrid DD's as well....

You don't need to charge a hybrid vehicle. A hybrid uses a diesel engine as normal vehicles, but has a function like regenerative braking and such, charges the large battery on board. The battery power can then operate part of the vehicle's function, like air condition or braking itself. The main drawback is a less powerful engine on the vehicle.
Main thing to note: Hybrid vehicle =/= Electric vehicle
Folks who know me well know that I support hybrid as green vehicles all along (only for being clean and fuel saving). Hybrid is one of my better choices, but talk about being clean and fuel efficient, IPT would be the better choice. Search for Inductive Power Transfer. Although this technology is more costly...

It is Volvo B5L engine. It should be cleaner than B9TL.

the red bus company is Arriva and is not own by Comfortdelgro.. Comfortdelgro own Metroline.
