Service 88 was the first SBS service to ply Sengkang New Town in February 1999. Although SBS services 82 and (former) 83 already ply the area before service 88 did, but it wasn't a New Town back then.
But Seletar & Simpang failed to materialise after 18 yrs

in fact, it could be the last of the remaining large portion of the rural villages around Lor Buangkok (off Punggol Rd) and Punggol Rd itself to be mass cleared as part of the development of Sengkang & Punggol new towns.
I'm not very sure if those villages in Kg Lor Buangkok were cleared cos I've heard from somewhere else that the very last of the villages there are going to be cleared for some future develpoments.
Nope, the villages are still there as of today. I stay near that area and passes by the village houses everyday. Also notice a lot of heavy vehicles parking along Lor Buangkok tracks. Suyra home is still there as well (entrance by service 101 looping point). Perhaps soon in the next 5 years?
According to the plan Buangkok Dr is supposed to be extended to YCK Road from Buangkok Green, but till now still yet to see the road construction begin.

The service was apparently replaced by 151 during its 1974 bus rationalidation by just extending its route to Outam Park from South Canal Rd and in the laetr years, the service was amended again to terminate at New Bridge Rd somewhere in 1976/77.
ABS 31A from Changi Rd loops at Ourtam Park.
I don't know it has such a short history. Even the old SBS wasn't serving the terminal.
Thanks for the info on Sengkang services, but service 82 and 83 are still the pioneer services in the area. Unforgetable, especially the B57s.

77 & 131 were downgraded in mid-98 when the 1st round of FAC conversion started. I remember 14, 99, 106, 147 & 166 were no longer served by 2-axle DDs thereafter. Later on most Shenton Way routes became FAC. 10, 131 & 196 joined 100 as FAC routes in 1999.
147 was converted to FAC during that period, but if anyone can recall, some of Mercedes-Benz OF1417 (Hawke body) did 147 somewhere in 2000 for a few months before it was phased out. I remember bcos I took it a few times during my school days, one of it I remember clearly was SBS5555J.
There's also some other services which OF1417 did before phasing out, dun really recall the services.
Cheers.

Until massive developments in that area, then these roads were abolished to make way for Senggkang New Town. For Buangkok South Farmawy 1, it was shortened to connect to the 7 4-storey HDB blocks (Blks 1-5, 206,207), which was aslo affected by SERS and was also cleared for redevelopment and so that road is gone.
It is true to come to a point that only 82 & 83 serve the rural districts of Punggol Village - there was only one terminal at the end of Punggol Rd (bound by Track 24 & 26) and located at a nearby seafood restaurant. But Service 83 was withdrawn when the service integrates with 147, leaving 82 behind, serving Shenton Way.
The ex-Punggol Ter is now the looping point for 82. Went there recently, miss the good old days where buses parked along the road.
Cheers.

I don't recall the Mercedes-Benz OF1417 (Hawke body and NZB body) still on service in 2000. The Mercedes-Benz OF1417 was brought in by SBS in 1980/1981. Even if the statutory lifespan was 15 years, they only lasted till 1995/1996. And I think that the statutory lifespan of buses in 2000 is still 12 years, so they should have already pharsed out by 1993/1994, together with the Volvo B57s.

btw, let me share with you the handover of SBS woodalnds services to TIBS in 1983.
It goes by stages, which means the SBS Woodalnds services would be taken over in stages for the next few months. With an initial start of 160 and 167 on 3 Apr 1983, this marks the beginning of a 2nd public bus company, Trans Island Bus Services, a full day bus company from SSB.

164 - Sembawang Rd End to New Bridge Rd
5 Jun 1983:
169 - Woodlands Int to Ang Mo Kio [on a side note: this service was the first to get the 2 new Nissan Diesel U31SCN buses]
10 Jul 1983:
178 - Woodlands Int to Jurong Int
204 - Woodalnds Int to Sungei Kadut Ave(Loop)
208 - Woodlands Int to Kranji Way (Loop)

The Tibs expansion did not just stop here. It expanded its network further to the upcoming Yishun new town in 1985-1987. The following Yishun bus services were introduced originally by Tibs:-
850 - Yishun to Bt Merah via Orchard Rd and Shenton Way (withdrawn in 1993)
851 - Yishun to Bt Merah via Bugis, Chinatown and Outram Park (no route change)
852 - Yishun to Jurong via Bt Timah and Bt Batok (cutback to Bt Batok in 1996)
853 - Yishun to Lor 1 Geylang/Marine Parade via Serangoon
854 - Yishun to Bedok via Hougang and Jln Eunos (no route change)
855 - Yishun to WTC via Upp Thomson and Bt Merah (no route change)
856 - Yishun to Woodlands via Admiralty and Senoko estate
On top of that, Yishun feeders 800 801 802 803 804 805 were also introduced by Tibs too. Woodlands feeders 900 901 902 were eventually introduced when Woodlands new town continued to expand in the 1980s.
Service 171 was also amended to terminate at Yishun interchange in the 1980s and it was the only SBS service to ply along Yishun all those while. In Nov 1995 service 171 finally went under Tibs control.
Where was the former W'lands interchange located, before Woodlands regional interchange was opened in '96?
anyway, when did 856 go under w'lands control, and Vice-versa for 854,5 to AMK

Old Woodlands interchange is located near the checkpoint along Woodlands Centre Road carpark. U can see a few of service 170 buses parking there.
Service 856 went under full WLDEP only in 1998 when WLDEP commence operations. In the past was dual AM/KJ controlled.
Service 855 was once minority under KJDEP, the rest under AMDEP. Became dual AM/WL controlled, after which became full AMDEP controlled during the SBS/Tibs swop in 1999.
Service 854 was all the while full AMDEP. It did went dual AM/WL for a short period of time in 1999, after which went back to full AMDEP again.

oh ok thanks alot
Anyway, why doesnt services like 58,59,72,159,161,163,168 go centralized, just like 198 on BB, even though it belongs to the boon lay route group?
the reason why i suggested is because the timing to reach the interchange is like 'not balanced enough'

The old Woodlands interchange is where 911/912/913 and some buses pick up passenger last time right?

Hmm... all these depends on SBST. In the past some of these services were dual controlled like services 58 (AM/BN), 72 (AM/HG), 159 (BR/HG) and 161 (AM/HG). Also add on service 160 and 506 under BBDEP though it belongs to the Jurong East route group.
Service 163 was all the while controlled under HGDEP and Sengkang side. At Toa Payoh inerchange service 163 is basically just a "looping point" for the buses.

Yes...
if didn't remember wrongly the very first Woodlands Int was actually Marsiling Terminal when SBS opened it around 1978.
169, 180, 182, 372 terminated there. Later on Woodlands Ctr Int was built and 178, 181, 204, 208 was added to Woodlands's Bus network.

but then why was 72 controlled by AM/HG, not HG all the way
The reason is because, AM is near, whereas HG is nowhere near, and placing it under HGs control, will make it more centralized.
and also 85, did it go under AMK's control before?

Service 72 initially plied from YCK to Seagate along AMK Ave 5. It was integrated with the former service 80 (Hougang Ctrl to Tampines) to become a YCK - Tampines service. The integrated service 72 used HGDEP Volvo MK3s previously from service 80 as well as some MB0405s from AMDEP for a start. It was only sometime later when service 72 went under full AMDEP control.
Service 85 all the while is under HGDEP, never controlled by AMDEP before.
The Old Woodlands Interchange ar...
Hmm, I think i got mentioned before

In addition, 911, 912 & 913 continue serving the Woodlands Checkpoint terminus until Mar 2003 when the terminus can no longer be used for buses to enter. The problem is that the old bus bay in the terminus is frequently used for illegal parking since 2001, when mototrists were unable to find a proper parking lots in the car park. It was sealed up to curb illegal parking.
Another point to note: 901 still terminate at the old Woodlands Int when its Woodlands services were amended to Woodlands Reg Int on 4 Feb 1996.
Some missed out facts: When the Woodlands Chekpt Terminus closed down in early 2003, and 911, 912, 913 would terminate at Marsiling Rd. Passengers who want to continue the trip will board the bus from Woodlands Centre Rd (opp the Town Garden)

when 163 terminated at Jln Kayu it was full amdep. Its merc went to 159 due to their route changes.
