If I'm not wrong, Express 521 didn't seem to be an express service even when it was introduced, and its more like a trunk service. That's why feedback from commuters that they had to spend more money on 521 when it doesn't run express on any route, with a certain exception along AYE.
actually i think tat express services are kind of useless..being just trunk services with a very long route on the e'way......if tats the case we have many express services now e.g 966, 168 etc...
How about city shopper?

CityShopper services were scaled down gradually due to the low demand of the services and finally an abrupt end when 3 services 578, 579 & 581 were withdrawn just last year. Passengers would go for trunk services for cheaper fares rather than spending $3.30 or $3.60 fare in CityShopper.
The 7 Cityshoper services were introduced on 15 Dec 2007, as the sole purpose for direct services from HDB towns to the Orchard & Sutec areas.
$3.30 fare for 551, 575, 576, 577, 579, 580
$3.60 fare for 578 & 581
551, 575, 577 and 580 were withdrawn on 21 July 2008.
576 was withdrawn on 28 Oct 2008 (On the same day its operating hours were revised for 578, 579, 581)
578, 579, 581 were withdrawn on 27 July 2009

SBS2500L to SBS2592X were all O305 DDs. They were deregistered between 2000 and 2001, and majority of them were based in HGDEP. Its known deployments were the following:
5, 7, 14, 51, 61, 64, 74, 97, 111, 132, 147, 153, 154, 165, 197, 321, 322, 326, 327, 328, 385
A few of the O305 DDs in this range together with SBS2478T, and partial buses ranging from SBS2481H - SBS2499H were under AMDEP back then. SBS2477X & SBS2488P was under HGDEP.
For the case of SBS2569P that became the Magic Ark bus, when SBS1793P (ex-YK5257P) became the Magic Ark SD bus, SBS2569P was deregistered straight after.
TIB551J to TIB559M were new to KJDEP 187.
Since 187 was still PAC back then, it uses the following:
1. NAC Nissan UDs. (for the case of TIB311K, TIB312H, TIB323B and some other Nissans in WLDEP, these buses can still be appeared on 187, even in year 2000)
2. OAC Nissan UDs (some ex-CSS buses also did 187, like TIB1250X was one of the first ex-CSS Nissan to appear on 187 after final touch up on its SMRT livery)
3. NAC Hino HT238
4. NAC Mercs O405 (TIB772M was one)
5. OAC Mercs O405 (largely common back then)
6. DAF Hispanos (TIB41X and TIB42X series) - they appeared in a very short while.
7. DAF WA Sentanta (TIB676H, TIB690R, TIB711P and many others did 187 too, just that it is very common on 178 as well)
8. Scania ELBOs (when 187 became WLDEP, it began to make use of ELBOs to 187, still NAC back then)
9. MB O405G bendies (the 1st & 2nd gen ones, TIB855H also did 187 when it was WLDEP 900 and WLDEP 184)
10. MB O405G Smiley buses / Habits/Volgrens (okay, its very common even today)

Express 521 did not ply express along AYE. Some expressways doesn't seems to be an express route without bus stops.
In that case, let's say if Express 521 still in existence now, it would have used the BKE/PIE and exit at Toh Tuck Rd and continue its journey via Toh Tuck Ave as an express sector and then to serve C'wealth Ave West bus stop or even amended to the current route of 963E.
If you notice when 521 was converted to trunk service and numbered as 963, it was made to call at bus stops along Toh Tuck Rd.

THE HISTORY OF CITYSHOPPER SERVICES
Cityshopper Services were only introduced by SBS Transit once - on 15 December 2007. They were introduced to cater commuters to the city in shopping comfort. Due to Cityshopper 575 & 576 plying the same stops before & after plying the city, there will be a terminating sign to show that it is terminating.
Initially at first, the demand was quite good, but due to the expensive fare, the demand decreased and on 21 July 2008, Cityshopper 551, 575, 577 & 580 were withdrawn.
Onn 28 October 2008, Cityshopper 576 was suspended, but was never re-introduced and was subsequently counted as withdrawn. The other 3 services' timing was also adjusted. Finally, on 27 July 2009, the 3 services were withdrawn and this removed the Cityshopper Services concept.
SBS8533C, can you tell me about Sembawang bus services after the 90s?

The production batch of O305s are WAs, similar to the front bodyworks of LAs and LO2xes
The Hino HT238K were phased out at the end of 2001. Its last operations were 172 and 175. 188 was made FAC at the end of 2000
Magic Ark bus is no longer in use. Previously, it was sponsored by SBS & Apple Computer. Once the bus had ended life as Magic Ark bus, they were scrapped off and never return back.
The Scania Striders on 178 are almost running on 178 for about 8-10 years or so. Not too sure about it.

SEMBAWANG BUS SERVICES
Previously, at that time Sembawang was in a prelimary stage in development. The only TIBS service that serve that area was 160, that plies along Canberra Rd. Some ex-RAF private roads, such as Old Nelson Rd, Kowloon Rd, were still in existence.
When Sembawang New Town began to sprung up at the middle stage of development in 1998/99, a new bus service 859, connects to the new Sembawang New Town, but however, there were no plans for a new terminal to be constructed at that time, and was made to loop st Sembawang from Yishun.
Later on, a new peak hour one-directional service, 981, was introduced from Sembawang Way to Senoko Loop (for the AM Peak); whereas for the PM Peak, it served vice-versa.
It was planned that a new bus interchange should be erected near their doorstep. The Sembawang Bus Interchange began constructed in early 2004 and began its opeartions on 20th November 2005. Refer to the post on "Sembawang Bus Interchange" below.
SEMBAWANG BUS INTERCHANGE
The Sembawang Bus Interchange, commenced its operations on 20th November 2005. It's main purpose is to house some existing services plying along the Sembawang area into a one-stop public transport hub in Sembawang, except for 169, 856, 962, on which its route remains unchanged and will still serve the Sembawang area.
Services 167, 859, 980 & 981 were amended to the new Sembawang Interchange and a new service 882, was introduced to link from Sembawang to Sembawang Rd End Terminal (Loop)
Its route changes:
1) Service 167, previously from Sembawang Rd End Ter to Bt Merah, was amended to Sembawang Vista, Canberra Rd, Canberra Link, Sembawang Rd and continue its route to Bt Merah
2) Service 859, previously from Yishun to Sembawang Cres (loop), was amended to Sembwang Vista, Canberra Rd, Admiralty Lane, Admiralty Link, Sembawang Dr, Sembawang Cres and continue its route to Yishun Int
3) Service 980, previously from Admiralty Rd West to Lor 1 Geylang, was amended to Sembawang Vista, Sembawang Dr, Sembawang Ave,and continue its route to Lor 1 Geylang
4) Service 981, previously from Sembawang Way to Senoko Loop (One-directional), was amended to Sembawang Vista and Sembawang Dr and continue its route to Senoko Loop.
New Service
Service 882, was introduced on 20th November 2005, the same day Sembawang Interhcange commenced its operations. It plies from Sembawang Int to Sembawang Rd End Ter (Loop)
(Service 882 was also being amended to serve Montreal Dr, Montral Link, Wellington Circle a few years later)
For the CityShopper Services, there was 578A, 579A and 581A, which operates only on weekends.
578A - Compassvale St (Blk 291A) - Temasek Blvd (Suntec Twr 2)
579A - Tampines St 41 (Blk 417) - Temasek Blvd (Suntec Twr 2)
581A - Punggol Ctrl (Opp Blk 293) - Temasek Blvd (Suntec Twr 2)
aiya.
Watever e case, CityShopper could only work on e year end festive shopping spree period.. Tat's e time everyone has big bags n not enough taxis to go around. ![]()

There is only Sembawang Rd End & Admiralty Rd West in the past, I think i should quickly go through the services, which was the only known existence of those terminus in the outlying areas of the North.
Back then, Sembawang New Town wasn't in existence in the early 1990s.
For the 2005 changes in Sembawang Services, please refer to "Sembawang Bus Interchange" post in this thread.
160 - Admiralty Rd West to Crawford St [amended to ply Middle Rd in Feb 1996; instead of Bras Basah Rd; on 27th Dec 98, it was amended to Geylang Lor 1 Ter with the closure of Crawford Ter and renumbered as 980]
161 - Sembawang Rd End to Prince edward [amended to Shenton Way Ter in 1987 and withdrawn in 1993, with route amendments of 167]
164 - Sembawang Rd End to New Bridge Rd [withdrawn on 1st Oct 1989]
167 - Admiralty Rd West to Prince Edward Rd [amended to World Trade Centre, and later on to Bukit Merah. With the withdrawal of 161, 167 was extended to Sembawang Rd End]
857 - AIR CON service from Admiralty Rd West to Yishun [was withdrawn and merged with 169] - it is NOT introduced in 1993, its introudction was on 20th Sep 1992.
859 and 981 i mentioned already.
859 - Yishun to Sembawang Cres (Loop)
981 - Sembawang Way to Senoko Loop
Passing Through Services:
169 - Woodlands to Ang Mo Kio (plys along Admiralty Rd East and Canbera Rd on 10th Mar 1996)
856 - Yishun to Woodlands (plys along Canberra Rd on 10 Mar 1996)
962 - Woodlands to Sembawang Dr (introduced in 2001, to provide linkage between Woodlands & Sembawang New Town)

The fare for adults is $3.30 for commuters on 551, 575, 576, 577, 579 & 580 and $3.60 for commuters on 578 & 581. Child's fare is $1 on all service. (However, in Mighty Minds Bus Guide 2008 & 2009, there is an error stating that the services' fare are paid by fare stages.)
Finally, on 27 July 2009, the 3 services were withdrawn and this removed the Cityshopper Services concept.

that's Citybuzz. Cityshopper services use single-deck buses.
