182 before the merger served all Jln Ahmad Ibrahim bus stops (From JBP to Tuas CIQ).
The merger became it used Boon Lay Way (Express), Upp Jurong Rd (Express), PIE (Express), Jln Ahmad Ibrahim.
The calling of Upp Jurong Rd & PIE bus stops was made later.
SBST terminating at TIBS (now SMRT) territory:
When 168 was intro, it was the first SBST service to enter TIBS (now SMRT) territory in 2001. It was followed by 161 a year later. Svc 39 in 2003 & lastly Svc 85 in 2006.
For Service 161 & 168, it simply started off with B10M Mark IV (DM, strider & DM3500 if i am right). It was until 2003, i dont know if there was a DD test trial for Woodlands int but maybe there was if not u wont see DD on these 2 svc tdy lol.

More likely because 2XX 3XX are traditionally known as SBS svs.. Tibs had its 8XX & 9XX numbers.
Just like why 84 & 864 merged into 80, 865 became 86, 866 became 86.
I know that there are SBS svcs originally 2XX - 3XX and TIBS having 8XX to 9XX. But what I mean is that the numbers are no longer used after they are withdrawn, but I just don't know if they really handed the numbers back to SBS Transit.

I said that its some services that are renumbered.
I suspected one question about 401:
On Sgwiki, it says that the original route that 401 operated from Chai Chee - Big Splash @ East Coast Park. But then it says that it was withdrawn later and reintroduce the same numbered service between Bedok & East Coast Park. Is it true it is withdrawn when the terminal was closed or it was amended to Bedok Interchange skipping the Tanjong Katong area?

Originally posted by SBS8533C:Toa Payoh Bus Services is exactly the same concept.
Looking back to its Toa Payoh bus routes in the 1970s, you would notice that almost all of its Toa Payoh bus routes were circling the roads of Toa Payoh Estate without having any feeders in the past. There was a feeder 230 in the past, Toa Payoh - Lor 8 (Loop), which was the only feeder service in Toa Payoh, possibly meant for serving new bus stops along Lor 8 & Toa Payoh East. It was said that Toa Payoh Bus Plan & intro of its feeder service was in 1983
Toa Payoh services were numbered 1XX in the past.
Let's make a breakdown of the services during its re-organisation.

When the Toa Payoh TOwn Centre Bus terminus opened on 1 Oct 1971, all of its Toa Payoh Services clustered in 3 terminals were called to the new bus terminus located at the town cenre. A few of its services were amended or introduced during the period. The services in 1972 are as follows:

Withdrawn services: 138, 141A, 149A, 153A, 159
Other changes for the rationalisation
73 will call at Toa Payoh instead of Tanjong Pagar Rd.
141 and 141A was integrated to form the normal 141 route
149 and 149A will follow the 149 route but part of its routings in Toa Payoh has been changed.
151 - Re-routing of service but its start and end points remain unchanged.
155 - Amended to Kg Chai Chee instead
158 - To by pass Opera Estate.
Renumbering of services:
140A to 136
155A to 135
As it was mentioned in the Jurong Bus Rationalisation of 1978, Service 157 was later being amended to start from Jurong Bus Interhcange instead.
Now, let's focus about the Toa Payoh Bus Plan of 1983
At first existing Toa Payoh services that circled around Toa Payoh Estate had been abolished and replaced with a new set of Toa Payoh feeders, so that services do not clutter along the roads around Toa Payoh. The only solution to avoid the situation is to re-route all of its services that plys around Toa Payoh Estate without having to alter the routes that ply outside of Toa Payoh. It was said that a sole feeder service 230 had been withdrawn and was replaced with new feeders.
Before that, Lor 1, Lor 1A, Lor 2, Lor 3, Lor 4, Lor 5 were served by many Toa Payoh services and Service 230 only served Toa Payoh East and Lor 8.
New set of feeder services introduced:
231 - To Lor 1 Toa Payoh (G/W)
232 - To Lor 2 Toa Payoh (G/W)
235 - To Lor 3 Toa Payoh
237 - To Lor 7 Toa Payoh
238 - To Lor 8 Toa Payoh
239 - To Kim Keat Ave (withdrawn in 1985)
- Summary of Toa Payoh Services of the 1970s (amendments/service changes made in the 1980s are in brackets, in addition to the feeders as listed above) -
73 - To Old Upp Thomson Rd
135 - To Upp Changi Rd (later extended to Ang Mo Kio)
137 - To Singapore Zoo
139 - To Bt Merah Int
140 - To Prince Edward Rd

The history information of 401 at SGWIKI is totally wrong. I had edited the page.
Service 401 was still Chai Chee to Big Splash (Loop) even Bedok Interchange started off as a small terminal with boarding berths.
On 8th Sep 1985, Service 401 was made to terminate at Bedok Interchange, just months after extension works to accomodate more services previously terminating from Chai Chee Terminal. It was NEVER withdrawn.

21 years is referring to the present Kent Ridge Terminal.
To be precise, referring to the 28 years, the previous terminal was at Pasir Panjang Rd, on which its Kent Ridge Services terminated there for 7 years before its relocation to the present terminal site.

SBS586C was the only MK3 perm on HGDEP 116, apparently it was introduced on a trial period of 3 months. The withdrawal of the service was partly due to unsuccessful trial of service.

Originally posted by SBS8533C:Let's now talk about the Hougang services first then to Punggol ones.
In 1978, the first few HDB blocks were completed at Tampines Way (the current Hougang Ave 3 stretch). With the completion of the estate, a new service 86 was introduced from Tampines Way to shenton way. It was the first pioneered service that uses the first batch of Layland Atlantean DDs with BACO and Metsec body.
Before Hougang New Town was developed, there were two terminals situated at Upp Serangoon Rd. They were situated at 10.5km of Upp Seragoon Rd and the another at the end of Upp Serangoon Rd. (Do not confuse Upp Serangoon Rd as Serangoon New Town as Upp Serangoon Rd runs through Hougang)
The Upp Serangoon Rd Ter at 10.5km has:
85 - To Sims Ave (loop)
111 - To C'waelth Ave (via Orchard Blvd)
112 - To C'wealth Ave (via Tiong Barhu Rd)
The Upp Serangoon Rd Ter at road end has:
136 - To Ang Mo Kio
156 - To Toa Payoh
In the early 1980s, the Hougang New Town began construction and its developing until the 1990s, together with the first gen of HDB blocks at Tampines Way. With this new satellite town developing, another new bus interchange was planned at Hougang St 21. In 1983, existing services from Upp Serangoon Rd Ter at 10.5km (except 112 which was withdrawn) began to termiante at the new Hougang Bus Interchange at Hougang St 21. Other services like 97 to Jurong East Central Ter were introduced as well as feeder services like 321, 323 and 329 that plies within the neighbourhood Hougang areas.
However, the Upp Serangoon Rd Ter at road end, still continues to operate, with 3 services, 84, 136 and 153. Service 156 was known to have been withdrawn in the early 1980s.
- Services in Hougang Bus Int in 1985 -
85 - To Sims Ave
97 - To Jurong East Ter
111 - To Buona Vista
321 - To Upp Paya Lebar Rd (Loop)
[322 - To Hougang Ave 2 (Loop)] - introduced at late 1985
323 - To Hougang Ave 5/7 (Loop)
[327 - To Hougang Ave 7 (Loop)] - introduced at late 1985
329 - To Defu Ave 1 (Loop)
In fact, in addition to the existing feeders, more feeders were planned, they were 326 and 328. 326 plys to Hougang Ave 6 and 328 plys to Hougang Ave 8. But there's only a minor change to 2 feeders, 323 and 329. Service 323 was actually an integration of existing 323 and 329, it plys via Hougang Ave 5 and 7 (old 323 route) and Defu Ave 1 (old 329 route), instead of Tampines Rd.
Service 54 was introduced as Hougang to Eunos service (a loop service) in 1986. Its routrings were:
Hougang Int, Hougang St 21, Hougang Ave 1, Tampiens Rd, Hougang Ave3, Eunos Link, Jln Eunos, Changi Rd, Jln Turi (Loop), Sims Ave, Jln Eunos, Eunos Link, Hougang Ave 3, Tampines Rd, Hougang Ave 1, Hougang St 21 and Hougang Int
And Service 54 was withdrawn in 1987. On the other hand, Service 51 was integrated with Service 54 for Hougang to Jln Eunos stretch, thus Service 51 extends to Hougang Int.
Other significant changes
The first Aircon Service in Hougang was Service 118, which was introduced to loop at Orchard Rd. This service was duplicated with existing 111 and was withdrawn after 2 years of service
62 was extended to Hougang Int (St 21) with the introduction of 63 that will termiante at Rumah Tinggi ter.
74 was extended to Upp Serangoon Rd End Ter in late 1988.
97 was being amended to Jurong East Int when the interchange kicks off operation in 1986.
111 was extended to Ghim Moh in the early 1990s.
132 was extended to Hougang Int (St 21) in the late 1980s.
147 was extended to Upp Serangoon Rd Ter in the early 1990s, with the merger of Service 83.
151 was introduced as Hougang to Kent Ridge Ter service
153 was amended to serve Bt Merah Ctrl in 1992 instead of Henderson Rd
322 was amended to ply along Hougang St 61 in 1986.
A new interchange was planned at Hougang Central. As the existing bus interchange in Hougang St 21 does not have enough boarding space to accomodate more services, the latter had to be terminated at the new interchange instead. Upp Serangoon Rd End Ter was acquired for future developments and services that terminate at the terminal had no choice but have to re-amended all its routings.
By end 1994, the Hougang Central Interchange was completed. All the exising Upp Serangoon Rd End Ter services terminate at the new int. The existing interchange in Hougang St 21 was renamed as Hougang South Int, so as not to confuse between the 2 interchanges bearing the same estate.
Service 97, 111 and 165 was also being amended to Hougang Ctrl.

On a side note:
During the construction of NEL, the Hougang Ctrl Int was splitted into two areas in 1998. But it was reverted back in 2002 when the NEL has completed its construction works.
Now let's move on to the Punggol services.
There was only 1 terminus at the Punggol Rd End (near Track 24 & 26), with initially has a Punggol Bus service 1 that loops at Bartley Rd.
In the 1971 re-organisation period, this service falls under the ABS Group, with 2 newly introduced service as part of the exercise. They were Service 82 from Punggol to Prince Edward Rd and Service 83 from Punggol to New Bridge Rd/Neil Rd. These 2 dominated routes of Punggol served well to the Punggol villagers as these 2 service brought them to the city without having to transfer.
When the Prince Edward Rd Ter closed to make way for future developments of the urban area, Service 82 was called at the Shenton Way Ter instead and its routes were remain unchanged except for some minor changes in the Hougang New Town areas.
Service 82 was amended to ply along Hougang Ave 2 and 10 instead of ave 8
Service 83 was amended to ply along Hougang Ave 2, 8 and 10.
When service 147 was merged with Service 83, the service was withdrawn. Part of the existing 83 route became part of Service 147. Thus, the only service in Punggol Rd Terminal was 82.
Service 82 was handed over to TIBS in 1995 and back to SBS in 1999, without any route changes until the NEL Rationalisation in 2003. Now with the shortening of Service 82 under this exercise, the heydays of service 82 were gone and the passengers who frequented 82 from the North Eastern side (Hougang & Punggol) to Shenton Way had to make other arrangements to get to their destination in the city area, as the NEL is conveniently located.
In 2003, the new Punggol Temp Int was opened, with the conjunction of the NEL MRT and the NEL Rationalisation Exercise

I know that there are SBS svcs originally 2XX - 3XX and TIBS having 8XX to 9XX. But what I mean is that the numbers are no longer used after they are withdrawn, but I just don't know if they really handed the numbers back to SBS Transit.
In the past, its numbers were up to 208.
When the feeders were introduced in 1980s, more 2XX & 3XX numbers were used to introduced the feeder services for various HDB new towns. Its numbers for the feeder are well-organised to identify for each HDB town.

Thank you. But what about the Tanjong katong sector? In Transitlink Guide 1995, it only ply East Coast Park Svc Rd, without the Tanjong Katong sector. What is happening to that sector?

So, 38 also got full FAC fleet but still got NAC cameo last time? The same goes to Tampines and Pasir Ris feeders?
38 still have NAC cameos in the past, just like Bedok & Tampines Townlinks and Bedok/Tampines/Pasir Ris feeders

I'm not sure about if there was any amendments made to Service 401 that skips the Tanjong Katong sector.
The only known amendment in the 1990s, which was on 21st Sep 1997, is the extension of 401 to Geylnag Lor 1 Terminal via New Upp Changi Rd, Siglap Rd and Siglap Link.

During the last few months of 921, Bus Plus mini-buses were used, due to the extension of Petir Rd and link up with Dariy Farm Rd.
When Petir Rd extension was opened to vehicular traffic, Service 700A was made to serve Petir Rd and Dairy Farm Rd and continued its route from BKE. The service was then replaced the feeder service 921

Feeder 329 - To Defu Industrial Estate. Withdrawn in 80s.
For 323, it was known that this service ran more frequently after the merger of 323 and 329 as it had provided adequate linkage to Upp Serangoon Rd and Defu Insustrial Estate
The posts of SBS & TIBS of thanking SBS8533C was to reply for me. So hope that no-one minds about it.

I know that 401 did ply Geylang Lor 1 Terminal before. But I thought there was any mistake when i saw that on a map (not from the Mighty Minds series, in the map in 2005, printed before December 2004 as 401 plied Orchard / Tomlinson Rd.) I also thought that 401 never plied Geylang Lor 1 before, and I almost forgot.
SBS8533C, can you tell the history of other Changi Airport bus services (after 1981 & 1983)?

To be precise, referring to the 28 years, the previous terminal was at Pasir Panjang Rd, on which its Kent Ridge Services terminated there for 7 years before its relocation to the present terminal site.
I don't know there is a terminal at Pasir Panjang Rd, sorry
