An overview:
The Rationalization of Jurong Bus Services covers the existing bus services serving Taman Jurong and the Jurong Industrial Estates. The rationalisation took place on 1st June 1978 and with the conjunction of the Jurong Bus Interchange at Jurogn Port Rd, most of the services were amended to terminate at Jurong Interchange instead of one cluster of terminals around the vicinity of Jurong Town and Industrial Estate.
The services before Rationalisation stages:
Pre-Rationalisation of 1974 Era
10 - Bedok Rd to Shipyard Rd (later extended to Upp Changi Rd)
30/30A - Changi Rd to Jln Ahmad Ibrahim
42 - Telok Kurau to International Rd
154 - MacPherson Est to International Rd
157 - Toa Payoh to Shipyard Rd
165 - Upper Thomson Rd (near Sembawang Hills Dr) to Jln Boon Lay/Jurong Rd
176 - Corporation Dr to Prince Edward Rd
182 - Upp Bt Timah Rd (near Ewart Circus) to Benoi Rd
198 - South Canal Rd to Jln Boon Lay/Jurong Rd
202 - Corporation Dr to International Rd
203 - Corporation Dr to Jurong Port Rd
204 - Corporation Dr to Benoi Rd
205 - Corporation Dr to Shipyard Rd
206 - Lim Chu Kang to Tanjong Kling
Post-Rationalisation of 1974 to Pre-Jurong Town Rationalisation of 1978 (amendments are shown)
30/30A - Renumbered to 30 accordingly and at the same time bypass Stamford Rd, Waterloo St & Bras Basah Rd.
165 - Rerouted to form Upper Thomson Rd to Old Jurong Rd service.
176 - Rerouted to form Corporation Dr to Crawfors St service.
178 - New Service introduced from Corporation Dr to Jurong Rd
182 - Noticeably the service doesn't serve the Jurong Industrial Estate anymore. It Serves only the North Canal Rd and South Canal Rd as a loop service via Bukit Timah Rd and Orchard Rd and make a looping at Parsi Rd
183 - New Service introduced from Benoi Rd to New Bridge Rd (later called at South Canal Terminal instead)
198 - Extended to Jln Kolam Ayer Terminus (and later to Sims Place)
Post Rationalisation of 1978 (when Jurong Interchange was opened at the same date of rationalisation. Feeder/Industrial Services were introduced to reduce route constraints due to long routes and off peak wastage)
10 - Upper Changi Rd (13.3km) to Jurong
30 - Chai Chee to Jurong
154 - MacPherson Est to Jurong
157 - Toa Payoh - Jurong
165 - Ang Mo Kio to Jurong
178 - Upp Bt Timah Rd (near Bt Panjang Cirus) to Jurong
183 - New Bridge Rd to Jurong
184 - Telok Blangah Way to Jurong
196 - Prince Edward Rd to Jurong
197 - Geylang Fringe Car Park to Jurong
198 - Sims Place to Jurong
206 - Lim Chu Kang Rd to Jurong
Feeder services (Loop Service)
240 - Jurong to Boon Lay Gdn (Loop)
241 - Jurong to Teban Est
242 - Jurong to Kang Ching Rd
244 - Jurong Int to Boon Lay Gdn
Industrial Feeders (Loop Service)
245 - Jurong to Pandan Rd
246 - Jurong to Boon Lay Gdn
247 - Jurong to Jurong Pier Rd
248 - Jurong to Neythal Rd
249 - Jurong to Jln Samulun
250 - Jurong Int to 6th Lokyang Rd
251 - Jurong to Refiunery Rd
253 - Jurong to Benoi Rd
255 - Jurong Int to Gul Circle
257 - Jurong to Gul Rd
Special Services (it was introduced later, not during the rationalisation date itself)
404 - Jurong to Science Centre
405 - Jurong to Jurong Bird Pk
406 - Jurong to Chinese/Jpanese Garden
450 - Jurong to Pasir Laba Camp
404 to 406 was introduced on 4 June, while 450 introduced on 3 June
Other service changes as part of Jurong Bus Rationalisation:
Service 42 from Telok Kurau to International Rd was withdrawn and other alternatives to Jurong were Services 10 and 30. Service 40 covers the route of Service 42
Service 154 was re-routed to MacPherson Rd and Jln Toa Payoh instead instead of Upp Aljunied Rd and Braddell Rd. The only way To get to Jurong from Toa Payoh was Service 157 - the most direct route
Service 176 cutback to Clementi instead of Jurong as this service will be designated to ply along the Clementi Town Area.
Service 178 was amended to Jurong Rd from Bt Timah Rd instead of Jln Jurong Kechil. And again Service 157 is only the most convenient route to Jurong becuase it plies along Jln Jurong Kechil.
Service 183 called at New Bridge Rd terminal instead of South Canal. The new Service 197 would ply part of the existing route of Service 183 (South Cnaal Rd to New Bridge Rd stretch)
Service 197 was newly introduced from Geylang Fringe Car Park to Jurong Interchange via North Bridge Rd, Chinatown and Jln Bukit Merah (along the old 183 route)
Service 209 would cutback to C'wealth Ave instead of the Jurong Area. Affected stretch of Service 209 were served with 183, 196 and 198.
Feel free to contibute if you have any other informations about the Jurong Bus Services Rationalisation
Service 30 used to serve boon lay and chai chee. When did Chai Chee Terminal close down? What were the services that are at Chai Chee Terminal?
Originally posted by Rk 2010:Service 30 used to serve boon lay and chai chee. When did Chai Chee Terminal close down? What were the services that are at Chai Chee Terminal?
the Chai Chee terminal aftermath
today svc 221 lives on under 222.
it also explains why svc 229 has to go thru chai chee before reaching bedok int. this was due to the Chai Chee Bus terminal era whereby a link from bedok town centre to chai chee area was needed to be retained.
Dear SBS8533C.
A good written article on Jurong Int rationalisation (under gen 1 changes). (Like the article)
Pre 1974 would really mean the day the Jurong side services were started by the ABC or ABS that ruled Jurong then.
meanwhile u forgot to include svc 209 in the pre 1974 era... i am sure it did plied Jurong but to where?

Oh I missed out that part.. Btw Service 209 wasn't newly introduced in 1974. It was actually renumbered from 154A (Crawford St to Benoi Rd) during its 1st rationalisation in 1974 after the amalgamation of 3 services to form SBS in 1973. The route remains unchanged during the period.
Meanwhile, some other services were renumbered to their respective numbers, take some examples
73/73A - The Yio Chu Kang - Tg Pagar service ran parallel and deuplicate its routing so the service became 73
140/140A - Both services starts from different terminus points but end either at the same or different terminating points in its inward or outward direction. (which means it carries the same number but plying alternative routes and numbered as 140A). Since 140 was a Lor 6 Toa Payoh to Prince Edward Rd and 140A was a LOr 1 Toa Payoh to Prince Edward Rd service, 140A cannot be numbered as 140, so the 140A was being renumbered to 136 to avoid the duplication of the number.
154/154A - Same concept like 140/140A. 154 plies betwen MacPherson to International Rd and 154A plies from Crawford St to Benoi Rd. As 154A plies a different route system, it was renumbnered to 209.
- Breakdown of services by company -
Service operated by ABC: 197, 198
Service operated by ABS: 10/10A, 30/30A, 42
Service operated by UBC: 154/154A, 157, 165, 176, 182, 196, 202, 203, 204, 205
YOu might have noticed that 30/30A & 42 was fromerly an STC service, when STC closed down at the end of 1971, both 30/30A and 42 handed over to ABS. Majority of its Jurong Services are started by UBC.
were 10a and 30A similar to 154A and 140A?

Nope. They aren't similar.
10A - Bedok Rd to Shipyard Rd (runs on Off Prak)
30A - Changi Rd to Jln Ahmad Ibrahim (similar to 30)
140A - Lor 1 Toa Payoh to Prince Edward Rd
154A - Crawford St to Benoi Rd
Not all of the services with 'A' prefixed are similar, as mentioned earlier. Service 10/10A, for instance, 10 for Peak hrs, 10A for off-peak, Service 30/30A runs similar to Peak / off-peak hrs, Service 101/101A both started from Serangoon Garden Way and terminates at New Bridge Rd, but on its outward direction, both services terminate in different locations at Serangoon Garden Est, 101 terminates at Berwick Dr and 101A termiantes at Kensington Park Rd.
won't there be confusion at times? y didnt they renumber them into different numbers in the first place?

Do you have the Toa Payoh services Rationalisation?
Based on above
11 Chiense co + STC -> Gen 0 (1933 - 1969)
> to clairfy no services to TPY, closest was Kim keat.
Rationalisation + introduce svc nos of today system
ABC ABS UBC -> Gen 1 (1969--1971)
> gen 1 also includes TPY new town introductions
1974 ratonalsiaton - Gen 1A
1970s improvements and enw towns (include Clementi and bedok) - gen 2
1. When was Service 237 withdrawn?
Was Service 142 being reintroduced to amend the loss of 147 Potong Pasir Routes after Potong Pasir Iterminal was destructed?
I have 2 questions to ask:
1) Why was Service 825 under TIBS (Beside the numberings) as it starts from YCK Int (governed by SBS)? Same goes to 927 when it was introduced when CCK was inder SBS.
2) Which private companies were merged to form CSS? Was it under TIBS control?
Originally posted by TIB657M:1. When was Service 237 withdrawn?
iirc around 2000 or 2001. merged with svc 232 to link Lor 7 wiht braddell MRT Station.
I also have clarification about depot management:
Why 882 is under AMDEP (YIshun group) control, but not WLDEP (Sembawang group)? Since Sembawang is near WLDEP and WLDEP controls all of Sembawang Services.
Why AMDEP had to handover some of YIBP services (like: 811, 812, 851) to WLDEP? Was it something to do with the introduction of 965 and 969?

927 should be because it goes to zoo .i heard 138 was almost handed to TIBS.

heard it was bcos it entered tibs area or sth like that...
Is it wise for LTA to let SBST take back Service 67? Since it covers 2/3 of SBST areas. Only 1/3 is Choa Chu Kang Area. So, how was the demand of 67 during SBS days?
