The coin changing machine & pre-paid ticketing machines was literally short lived. It was introduced in 1979/ 1980 but ended somewhen in early 1990s.
At e same time, SBS went to consult Sweden & UK for a bus plan review.

The Scheme B Pilot Scheme was launched on 1st Dec 1981.
The Scheme B buses would supplement the existing 8 SBS services. Its SBS numbers were retained (not renumbered). Those Scheme B services run parallel to the SBS services and runs during the AM & PM peak hours.
Services that were chosen for the Scheme B Services:
26, 32, 60, 61, 77, 136, 185, 186.

About 25 years ago, there was even a stored value magnetic card trial (a bit similar to TransitLink farecards). Service 282 was the service that gets the trial.

A story sequence from Crime Watch Episode 7:
1) A schooling boy was playing with his handphone and wasn't aware that the man from behind is watching and staring at him.
2) Both boarded the Sv 154 bus (SBS5136K) at Circuit Rd. It was heading to Eunos at the time of filming.
3) As the boy finds a seat, the man who is staring at him, sits beside him, and asks him what is the time? The man even asks about the time from the handphone clock.
4) When the bus reaches the bus stop at Paya Lebar Rd, the man asked him again about the current time and suddenly grabs his handphone and alight. He make a quick dash and the boy quickly alights and chased after the man.
5) The robber had fled via the concourse of MacPherson MRT Station and was hiding at the nearby food centre. Transcom officers had spotted the man fleeing across the station, with his sandals falling off from the robber's feet. Good clue for the Transcom officers and with vigilance, the Transcom officers then started to chase the robber, and at the same time, they were approached by the boy who had robbed of his handphone earlier on the Sv 154 bus. The robber was finally found and apprehended.

SBS had planned for magnetic card way before SMRT was even borned. But the MRT made the card to materialise faster.

SMB12B is the F1RST Batch 1 OC cameo on 173 yesterday.
the Merc O405 of SBS also very dim.. 4 short tubes lighting the entire bus ![]()
Originally posted by SBS3688Y:to add on, the first half bus interiors of some K230UBs are also dark. The fluoroscent light above the exit door ought to be switched on for safety reasons but were made to be switched on together with the front lights automatically only when the entrance door is opened.
For SMRT, i think the MBO405 Hispanos got rather dim interiors. Worse still, some SLs only switch on alternate sets of fluoroscent lights.
With lights on at the front, it will affect the driver's vision at night, as the reflection on the windscreen would be too glaring for the driver to look out on the road.
