Think of their neighbours few steps away. SMRT... Haha.... Anyway, they were saying their deployment will get affected. Lesser buses expected to be deployed on Monday. Maybe they take chance to save costs? The DD spare buses at present is enough to cover up the 6 missing DDs...
Deployment gets affected in terms of deploying DDs to 25. There wont be lesser buses deployed. Lesser buses deployed would only come in the case of not enough BCs.
I really didnt expect 9888Y to be gone tis quickly in such a way..At 1st wen i read abt tis,i tot i had jus woke up from a dream until to see those pics at the 1st page.. ![]()

by split the old and new buses the mechanic have time to check the old buses that return to the deport at night for sign of engine over heating and also in case of the fire the cost of the damage not so great. Also most of the time the old leyland DD bus is the main cause of the problem. There are some history of old leyland DD SBS bus got burned down due to engnes over heating problems or electrical problem. In this case most likey the cause fire is came from one of the old DD buses. Too bad the buses park so near to each others.
I shall put forward my theory with my humble tech knowledge. Of course each 'engineer' can have their theories, this is only a speculation.
The fire may have started, based on previous cases, electronics compartment below staircase or the air conditioning unit.
The depot fire at Hong Kong in 2008 originated from an Enviro 500 electronics bay, there was a short circuit and fire spread to other buses. Electronics fire can happen even after the engine has cooled down, as capacitors wires are still carrying charge long after the power supply is cut.
Air conditioning is also a place with electric charge, although such charge may be insufficient to start a large fire on its own, but its near to the engine, and with any little hot engine oil left near the engine, it can pretty much ignite.
As a gauge and comparison, flash point for diesel is 51.6 degrees C, gasoline -42 degrees C, motor oil 215 to 251 degrees C. This means that gasoline is the most inflammable, followed by diesel and then motor oil. Different grades of oil may vary their flash point.
This means that a same spark, landing on/near the engine with only motor oil and little/no diesel around, would by theory not be as dangerous as the same spark landing on/near the diesel tanks. So, the electronics bay or air conditioner theory? Up to your own judgement.

However, SBS will try to minimise inconvenience to commuters by redeploying buses where possible.
The total cost of the six buses is believed to be about $3 million - as each new double decker bus costs about half a million dollars.
Yah, and she said the buses were beyond repair, so I believe 6 of them would be scrapped.

Sad case for the b9s & 9888.

The reporter said that there were a few SDs half-burnt, so I'm not sure if what the reporter said is true. Or is it that the DDs were burnt to a single deck and the reporter thought its the SDs?![]()

It was reported in Sin Ming Newspaper in the article, mentioned by Tammy Tan Ailing.
all the 6 DDs that were affected might not be scrapped so quickly..
SCDF might keep them for awhile so that they can investigate what caused the fire..
from what i think only.. it muz be started from 7440t then it spread to the other 5... sad.. but 9645g not affected right?

the forensics guys have to do their work first. don't know if this will be classified as a criminal case for the starting period..
