Reminds of an recent a ride on Sv 61.
Scheduled arrivals: 0811 - BBT Int. 0830 - Jln Anak Bt. 0846: Opp CS Jelita.
The bus reached Jln Anak Bt at 0833. And there was a massive jam at Clementi Rd, think it woul probably arrive at Ulu Pandan Rd mark at least 0850. The only thing lucky is NP is now having sch hol, else lambat dip dip.
The SL was just acclerlerating throughout the way. In any case, schedules least has to allow buses to be able to catch up if there's slight delay en-route.
with Clementi Rd + tight run time, no chance man

Good game
Jalan Anak Bukit Bus Stop will be packed again before lessons start at 8am, 9am and 10am etc...
Suggest SMRT to deploy their TIs at that bus stop to ensure passengers move to the rear (especially Sv 184 bendies) so that students are able to reach school on time.
If I'm not wrong, tat trip is scheduled to arrive Eunos at 1032.
In any case it's to arrive Alexandra Rd at 0859
Interchanges and terminals are so small nowadays it's difficult to even have long breaks.
Originally posted by SBS3688Y:Some suggestions to retaining long haul routes and improving its service is to provide more time for restover at bus interchanges. Probably about 2 to 3 buses resting at the bus interchange. If schedule and restover is too tight (hence no allowance), any congestion or bus breakdown along the route may affect the subsequent trips. With about 2-3 buses resting at bus interchanges, the timekeeper may have more flexibility to adjust the subsequent return bus trips timing to minimise any impact on frequency.
How about introducing more Fast Forward svcs? This should not be restricted to weekday peak hours only.
Maybe spare buses could be utilised frm depots? Not only it gives us bus fans to spot more of these cameos appearing, but it also helps to minimise delays shld there be problems about traffic congestion = shorter queues
e.g Bendies on 857/Volgren Lances on 855

© 2010 Singapore Press Holdings LimitedThe Land Transport Authority (LTA) is not splitting up or phasing out all long-distance bus services.
It is relooking only long bus routes with known reliability issues, and where there are sensible midpoints to break, so that overall, more commuters will benefit.
Making this point, an LTA spokesman said yesterday that there are also many long bus routes that do not face reliability problems and are not being considered for splitting.
He cited those running along the Tampines Expressway corridor, or where the ridership is well distributed along a substantial portion of the entire route.
... ...
Long bus routes are particularly susceptible to traffic delays and disruptions from boarding and alighting. He cited the example of a service running from the east to the west through the city centre.
... ...'If there are delays due to traffic congestion and high boarding and alighting activity in the east, commuters waiting to travel west from the city will find their bus service frequency adversely affected by these disruptions, especially during peak hours.'
Orange:
With regards to this statement, the long-haul services to Woodlands should safely fall into this category (ie 161, 168). A breakdown of the stats. showed that:
161: No. of fare stages = 32 = 25.6km
168: No. of fare stages = 39 = 31.2km
(where 1 stage = 0.8km)
Both the loading upon entering TPE are above average, especially in peak hrs where 168 will have massive boarding along Tampines Ave 4. Travelling time for 168 taken down recently from Bedok - Woodlands is about 1h 5mins, from 10:37pm - 11:40pm, for the off-peak period. Not very sure about the peak though. Timing is quite reasonable. So I doubt that these services will be affected by the planning.
Purple:
lol, confirm they are pinpointing at service 30. I had experienced a few times travelling back to the east from HBF during peak hrs. From an iris check dated 25 Feb 2010 @ 7:15pm, the results showed that the bus is arriving, and subsequently 42 mins. The sub bus was very late that after 15mins, there was a SP bus doing downroute from HBF - Bedok.

LTA where possible should bring back some roadside bus terminals for svcs with long loop and to avoid overcrowding at existing bus terminals and interchanges. Roadside bus terminals may look something like an extended bus-stop bay for buses to park without causing obstruction to traffic. Roadside terminals may be unmanned. Of course these terminals should be located at roads where its not congested and roads are wide enough. One way to address overcrowding at Boon Lay interchange, for example is to have roadside bus terminals/ stopovers for JIS services at Industrial estates and Tuas and it will loop at BNL Int instead of terminating there. Similarly, svc 179 & 199 may have similar terminals at the campus compounds.
Roadside bus terminals eh? U mean like those in Hong Kong? There are a few considerations to this. Wouldn't the pavements be full of these bus stop poles and commuters would get confused on which bus stop bay to board their bus svc.?

issue is, semi express svs idea not taken well here.
Remember wat happened to 162's semi feature? It kena flogged because ppl kpkb why limited stops.
In time to come, ppl have to accept long haul semi express rts.
My take on roadside terminal.
It can only work in smaller housing estates where traffic vol is low. Else the buses would also have difficulty in moving off too.

are you referring to terminals like St mikes, Sims avenue and Ghim Moh?

There's only Sims Place & Ghim Moh left for roadside terminals.

what about the former Marine Parade terminal?
Originally posted by Edd1:ei. Marina Centre and Lim Chu Kang also roadside terminal
Although Marina Centre bus terminal is a roadside one, there's no boarding & alighting for commuters.

Long haul services to get shortened, with route adjustments.
According to LTA, of the 260 bus routes in Singapore, special bus routes (with a full route of 20km and above) comprises 10% of the 260 bus routes here, mainly services 10, 30, 51, 63, 143, 147, 196 etc.
63 a long route? 48 stage loop service is as good as 24+24 roundtrip.
10 & 51 are long indeed as both are at least 40 stages in each direction.
Anyway, has anyone noticed very few loop services have more than 50 stages unless it plies long express sectors?

Ironically 63 is at borderline.
Actually, putting the cut-off at 35 stages is fairer. I don't see how 7, 16, 33 & 156 can be considered long routes. Don't forget 156 was extended to link SKG with the western region.

Golden Mile now left with 100. 961 & 980 only pass by in 1 direction. But CCL NHC station may be the answer to bringing the area out of isolation.
