Only SBS8016D is left, but BNDEP will most likely not repair the faulty air-con of this bus, so yea, it will not be returning to service.

I took SMB117H on service 176 just now. Tap in at Bukit Merah interchange, the entry reader shown 'TRF...' something like this, entry is OK. When I tap out at West Coast, the exit reader shown an error 'INVALID CARD E1' and did not reduct the correct fare. Didn't went to ask the driver as the bus was crowded.
During the journey, I suspected the driver reset the system because I heard a continuous beep 5 times, it is the sound you will hear when a bus terminates at an interchange or terminal.
What is the reason for this to happen? Is it possible to get a refund in this case?
I was able to replicate it by not tapping out on alighting, then tapping for ENTRY when I reboard the same bus on its next trip.

Having cycled through that stretch I can only tell you that it was one of very rare occasions where I welcomed the sudden rain at that moment because it gave me an excuse to stop at the bus-stop and cool my legs off.
ooh.. cos i drive by this sretch you mention very regularly..
the traffic lights are sync such that you will encounter a fresh red 90% of the times..
the steeper and more dangerous slopes would be near serangoon north ave 1, and just before jalan kayu, before 103 turns right in
between jln kayu n amk ave 8 is a nice stretch for high speed driving
