Did they go take e trouble to tabulate some examples?

Well, nobody can actually prove or disprove that.

Wat goes ard comes ard. Want better profit, means more $$ to commute

this has got to be the biggest scam SBS has ever conjured. Previously it was direct applications for hikes with PTC. Now they revamp the entire system...hahahaha. Alright we wait for their official annual report of statements and see if they really collect less revenue as sbst275 has claimed.

No one is as talented or calculative as you when it comes to tabulating bus fares, all hail the god.
relentlessly applying for transport hikes all these years only to reduce it with new expensive technology just doesnt make too much commercial sense huh.
I rest my case
Just because some here take direct journey so say a scam. So others who benefitted is wat?
Last time say x-fer bus expensive, so now make it total distance (6km bus + 11km MRT = 17km MRT ride fare) also complain.
In any case here complain. But where's your journey (pt A to pt B) to prove?
I think many here should go work in LTA as planners.

Then wat's tis for?
http://www.publictransport.sg/publish/ptp/en/distancefare.html
spend $$ to make it for commuters also dun want to use.
I think then we should go back to cash fare, no transfer rebate. Low cost.

Actually revenue should go up slightly, but there are ways commuters can benefit if they plan their journey and keep the ride going if they happen to need to.

you think their revenue will be lower just because of the examples you tabulated?
i am sure those people arent so stupid as to introduce a system where we can tabulate and not find any cheaper trips. as i said earlier there are bound to be cheaper trips and pricier trips.
the issue is which is more. there is no way to know as their are millions of variations. frankly only the transport companies know as they have the statistics and datas.
there are a few points that work to their advantage;
the 71cts (2 or 3 cts increase) for all feeder services.
the removal of the 25cts rebate for transfers.
most people wont tabulate the charges before they travel. thats 人的心.
if you forget to tap on exit they charge maximum.

Agreed, we should go back to cash fare, dunno who bring in farecards and all that technology one.
Leong Sze Hian mentioned in his article: "Anyway, I managed to find out that for myself, my typical bus 73/93 transfer journey from Serangoon Gardens to Queensway will increase by 11 per cent from $1.50 to $1.67, and a feeder bus journey will increase by 3 per cent from the current $0.69 to $0.71."
He also said: "With such huge increase in profits, what is the justification for the restoration of the three per cent rebate on 3 July, in conjunction with the 2.5 per cent reduction due to the new distance fares formula?"
Hello sbst275, let me tell you in detail how this distance fares has benefited me:
Previously:
1. To work:
43/70/76: Tai Seng Christian Church --> opp Tai Seng MRT ($0.69)
90: aft Upp Paya Lebar Road --> St Aero ($0.19)
Total: $0.88
2. From work:
90: St Aero -> opp Block 1022 ($0.69) + 43/70/76: Tai Seng MRT --> Blk 214 ($0.19)
Fares = $0.88
Now, with the "cheaper" distance fares:
1. To work:
76->90 = 5.6km = $1.01 (+0.13 / +14.8%)
43/70->90=6.2km=$1.01 (+0.13 / +14.8%)
2. Back:
90->76 = 3km+3.1km = 6.1km
New Fares= $1.01 (+0.13 / +14.8%)
90->70/43 = 3km+3.6km=6.6km
New Fares=$1.09 (+0.18 / + 20.5%)
Hello, and I make a transfer, mind you. The distance fares is supposed to eradicate transfer penalty (and thus benefiting commuters who do transfers). How come with the eradication of the transfer penalty I end up paying so much more?
Not convinced? Let me quote you with another transfer example:
Scenario: Tai Seng Church->Kembangan MRT
Previous:0.91(43/70/76)+0.18(MRT) = $1.09
Current: $1.15 (+0.06)
I pity the senior citizens the most; instead of having their fares tied to the lowest fare bands. Now their fares are euphemistically said to be 25% cheaper than the adult fares, capped at 7.2km, when in actual fact their fares have been obscenely hiked.
Let me just blindly list one eg. (amongst the numerous egs/combinations that I can think of)
Newton MRT -> Serangoon MRT
Previous fares: $0.73
Current fares: $0.97 (+$0.24 / +32.9%)
Just look at the percentage increase! ![]()
If you take a direct bus, your fees will most probably go up:
Eg.
136 from Tai Seng Church -> Edgefield Plains or vice versa.
Previous: $1.11
Now: $1.15 (+0.04)
Therefore, with the aforementioned examples, I can't help but to conclude that distance fares has benefited me tremendously in terms of helping to keep my wallet light.

The justification for the restoration of the rebate is intangible. With the increase of profits, all train and bus depots with have their security perimeter enhanced with the erection of high voltage fencing, and laser guided chainguns. Hence, passengers can be assured the intangible of a safe and secure ride.
Originally posted by BJK:Bus fares actually increase and the worst hit is senior citizens. They used to pay 69cts from east to west (travel after 9am)but now it is distance travelled. No wonder CEO SMRT received payment of more that $4 million as reported in the ST
if they travel such far distances as from east to west already need to transfer one bus or MRT and pay 69¢+69¢-50¢=88¢. thus they save 2¢ if their journey requires a change from/to MRT, or from/to bus.

same thing isnt it? just because you tabulate a few you think its cheaper.
call us cynical if you want. why come up with such a complicated system that results in less revenue? why not just lower the charges?
its pretty obvious isnt it?
if you cant convince them, confuse them!!

hey i'm sure sbs appreciates your kind appreciation LOL. It's pretty obvious......people are now paying more for transfers when ironically, this system was supposed to reduce transfer costs.
If not scam, then si mi lan jiao?

it took six freaking days before they pushed small fry Saw to come out and apologise. Nonsense.
After a few months, just track how often you need to top up your farecards compared to previous months before the system was introduced.
I can bet you 5 cents, you will find yourself topping up more often than normal.
No need to rely on what complex formulas or calculations to track the cost of your rides. ![]()

yeh dude.....if really wan to benefit commuters, just reduce the price. No need to go round the head with the hand to feed one's mouth.
i think some senior citizens are already damn poor thing. Working as cleaners, at the foodcourts, security .....when they are in their 60s and 70s. And now their transport fare undergoes a massive hike. What the fuck? Knnccb, these people got conscience or not?
Originally posted by dragg:thats exactly what i have in mind.
i wonder why sbst275 is so supportive of this system.
I assure you he's a regular commuter like you and I. Apart from all the extra fares which I had to fork out for certain straight-forward rides e.g. Ang Mo Kio to Yishun, it is cheaper for me to run to town to grab something and commute back, as long as I'm using different mode or bus service number for the return leg.
I once did a Novena-CCK-Funan by taking the MRT first and then Sv 190. The whole ride cost me $1.94. Under old fare system it'd cost me $1.62+$1.50-$0.50=$2.62. I did the round knowing that I can travel all I can within 2 hours and pay $1.94 if I confine myself to trunk/feeder/NSL/EWL/LRT services.

only those above 62 are considered senior citizens right?
