Hub reduction is a system whereby a hub reduction axle is mounted on the rear axle to help save diesel at speed. You have to ask Windy_hates_B10TLs about this. He can give you a MORE DETAILED explaination.

No VO's and no VSOs have hub reduction. No Volvos except the FH16P Volvo trucks have hub reduction.

btw, the 96xx series Volvo Olympians have the same engine as the Volvo Super Olympians, but the 96xx Volvo Olympians can get up hills quicker than a Volvo Super Olympian, in comfort, with speed, and with safety. Want to know why? Ask! Oh, and they don't have hub reduction!

I didn't want to reply to this in the first place, but one should cut Windy some slack as he the person with the most technical expertise. If he leaves it would be a loss to the community as a whole.
