Latest news: NEL will open at end of May or early June

  Transport Minister Yeo Cheow Tong has announced that SBS Transit has submitted it's fare structure.
  
  It is believed that the fare will be higher compared to SMRT due to high maintainence cost.
  
  He further added that NEL should be opening between end of May and mid June.

  I think it will open very near to 21 May 2003. Singapore Post had commisioned a new series of stamps featuring MRT trains to be released as first day covers on the day to commemorate the opening of the NEL. Info obtained from the first day cover release schedule available at all Singpost outlets.

  hmmm great timing. right after my exams. can take MRT. i already desinged new routes to use for bus spottings at hougang and hougang south and sengkang.
  153 will be ahot bus by july yeah.
  my new home station would be s'goon as i would tkae 153 nad transfer to MRT at s'goon MRT

  its june 11 already and they have not announced the 9 bus route changes. i thought the 9 bus route chnages will be announced along with the NEL start...

  Yanxin, to SBST there is NO SUCH THING as "by right" one. The 9 bus route changes(22,53,70,130 etc) will be announced on the 13th, hopefully, unless they want to shock commuters by making them "lost".

  The much awaited NEL may opens for operation on Saturday 21 June 2003. (If my analysis is not proven wrong)
  
  LTA and SBS Transit have said that the NEL may opens latest by Friday 20 June, but the chance of opening the entire MRT line for operation on a Friday is very very low. In the past, all MRT lines and LRT lines started operation on a Saturday, so that's explain why the chance of opening the line on a Saturday is higher.
  
  But, if LTA and SBS Transit decide to open NEL earlier on this Saturday, 14 June. Then today will be the day they make the announcement, so people who are taking the NEL, watch out for the news today.
