Forumers talked about bendies taking up space on the roads. Forumers talked about SMRT having DDs.Some say about the efficency of passengers alighting faster.
True. SMRT should have double-decks, but it depends on height restriction on several routes. Retaining some bendies would be good in such cases if the amount of commuters on the route is higher than usual routes.
If the passengers for a double deck bus come out slower with one door, come with two door exit, adding up to three doors lorh.... like KMB 3Ns and 3BLs.
Originally posted by sbst275:using double decks dun simply means I want to save space. It's to carry more ppl at 1 go with the same bus length - important for routes like 179A. Else I would end up needing 60 - 70 buses and it would flood the entire Jurong West Extn New Town.
The space saving is vis a vis with bendy buses as they've same licensed capacity.
Thats true, which is why not all services are suitable for bendies from my previous previous post. But if u put a double deck on for example, 806, in that case thats a wastage of space, because the route is short and few will be willing to move upstairs. In that scenario, it will be equivilant to the capacity of 1 sd instead.

well it depends.
strangely the 'not moving to upper deck' is occuring in recent years compared to e past.

Well one way which is going on with the B9TL is to modify where the exit door is. So it makes it an 'force' or incentive depending on how you see it, for upper deck commuters to use the entrance for alighting.

A small alignment of the exit door would be suffice. The left leaflet exit (view from outside) could just be aligned with the stair exit and the right leflet exit could be used by passengers of the lower deck.
Err, should I drag all of you guys back into topic. It's about Volvo B9TL with the Wright Gemini 2 bodywork, not about SMRT buying DDs. Not intervening here, just wanted to ask if anyone got any photos of the new B9TLs (not the launch photos, but those of it on the road).

One way to help solve the feeder routes woes is to use all SD but on high frequency, then free up the DDs for trunk routes. If a feeder bus route is heavily in use, perhaps can consider introducing another feeder route than runs similar to the 1st route (with only slight route differences), to help absorb the pax volume. In this way, can also help to better inter-connect the neighbourhood.
I suggestions of Feeder is too crowded, just like 241 and 242.. Split into 2 routes

How much loading is ok to you?
When everyone is going to skool to work at e same time.
So now 179A can have queue stretching all the way to Wendy's or MRT stn, so SBS should split 179A into 2 routes?

make the aisle wide enough for them to push through. though I admit that it might be a bit tight.

NTU and NIE should coodrinate the whole campus and start stagger the class starting hours. During my poly days, some of the days begin at 10am or even 12pm instead! Or else, construct an LRT system from BNL MRT to connect NTU, NIE, Boon Lay and Jurong West heartlands. Also, the LRT can also branch off to serve the Boon Lay neighbourbood to take some loads off svc 241,242,243. (sorry for being off-topic)
Well I believe it's staggered alrdy else you wun see packed 179 buses into NTU all e way till 2pm.
But since there's only 1x 179 into NTU, stagger also no use.
