its not necessarily that SMRT is trying to go towards low-floor buses, its legislation set down by LTA that PTOs need to purchase low-floor or low-entry buses. and this is a demonstrator that just happens to be low floor to the rear

are you sure? has your godfather seen the bus or measured its length with a measuring tape?

maybe we will see a MAN NG323 soon to replace the O405Gs? ![]()

i believe it is the first public city to use outward sliding doors.
it doesn't resemble those on the MRT. The ones on the MRT is just swing open only.
The doors would push out, then slide. :) It isn't, the ADL E400 and E500 in HK have already started using them....

The photos buses[in]gapore posted were the Volvo B7RLEs owned by KMB which operates mainly in the northen New Territories. It should look like those since it was mentioned that MCV Evolution would be used for the bodywork.

MRT one is sliding...

it is just sliding on a track. The TCL-stock on the MTR is one example of the doors we were talking about.
MAN Demo registered earlier than Zhongtong. Hope to see it on service soon.
Cheers.
Anyone has photos of this bus?

To make it more understandable, something like a van's rear sliding doors, moves out of the body, then slides open.

Most doors systems manufacturers actually term this kind of doors that "pops out, then slide" as inward sliding plug doors, or sliding plug doors.
On the contary, the normal plug doors that we have is the outward sliding/swinging plug doors.

SMRT MAN is using Denso A/C, not Konvekta. =D
Good to see SMRT using a more varied bunch of buses. Hopefully this bus is favourable with SMRT, 'cause I'd like MAN to have a prescence in SG.
320HP and 1600Nm of torque is just insane, especially at 1900rpm. In contrast, the larger OM457hLA in our OCs develops 299hp at 2000rpm, and 1250Nm. Wonder what that'll do to the fuel consumption. If coupled with a Voith transmission, we should expect to see the bus pulling quite smoothly out of the bus stop or at a red light. That is, if the SL doesn't floor the accelerator. This is an engine better suited to arcticulateds rather than rigids.
Well, it's better than having a B12BLEA with a huge stonking 12 litre monster.........limited to 35kmh.
Going by the figures obtained by Australian operators who own MAN A69 chassis' fitted with the same engine, the fuel consumption is very similar if only slightly higher than the Mercedes-Benz OC 500 LE. The OC 500 LE is optionally available with a 354hp engine as well which outputs 1600Nm of torque, again with next to no fuel consumption penalty.
There are some characteristic differences between the D 2066 LUH engine and OM 457 hLA engine. The D 20 does not have quite as much torque as the OM 457 at below 1000rpm and the torque drops off quickly after 1600rpm or so as well. The D 20 engines are twin-turbo compared to the OM 457 which has a single turbo but obviously the turbos on the D 20 engine are optimised for strong mid-range performance.
Hmm... Looks like the engine itself is going to produce lots of whistling sounds like the tridents if it's fitted with voith.... The only thing I dun like is the outsliding doors... HK buses already have several cases where the doors are jammed.... Well, let's see how it goes.
