Anyway, the Wrights are stuffy and hot too when the aircon is off when stopping at traffic junctions.
when running nope... i took my first wright ride on 7633 on my beloved 87 ytd... the aircon IS off at Xs... so i had to pray for the green light to come soon ![]()

they shldn't have ordered the original a/c by Damiler.
they shld be installing Carrier-Sutrak a/cs instead.

BUT
Its aircon sucks big time.
Which puts it on one of my I-think-I'll-pass lists...along with the Dennis Trident and some LO3X. Gimme the KUB, MKIII/IV, VO3X and VSO anytime.
Ironically, after that, I took 9214S on 161 and its also on that list now because of its 15 degrees aircon.
too cold for comfort huh? ![]()
for me, i will skip any citaro until it becomes impossible to do so. for now, any other model i'll just take.

Considering that I post that one on a wet day, with temperatures outside hovering around 28 degrees, and I still can tell you that its hot inside, something is very wrong!
The aircon is very weak. You have to be delusional to tell me that the bus is comfortable unless you are a honey bee which can tolerate temperatures in excess of 38 degrees.
Adequete?
I suppose I can't generalise from a single ride, but there's too many complaints about the aircon to ignore.
Need me to do hypothesis testing to tell you if the complaints are statistically significant?
If so, Charles, what would you have to say?
Mark Chua and his 514 angry kids
demand an explanation from SBS corpcomms and senior mgmt! This is not acceptable for these iconic award-winning buses that

Maybe u guys are just unlucky that u got the stuffy Citaros... Most of the Citaros I took were pretty much cold, some of them very cold.
Originally posted by nfshp253:I apologize for my ignorance, but who's Rizal? And poor SMB142J. That's what happens when you drive too fast over a hump. Once saw sparks from a KUB on 34 hitting the ground at a traffic junction that happened to be quite bulgy. The scratch marks shouldn't be from the Citaros since they have much higher ground clearance. Maybe it's the SMRT OCs.
And another thing, I seem to notice that the newer buses including the KUBs, Wrights and Citaros all seem to have some kind of "ski-looking" things at the four corners of their bodies. Is it to prevent bodywork damage in the event of hitting the ground at high speeds due to bumps?
Mr Rizal is the BC of SMRT's SMB136C on 855. Really nice guy.
So any citaro on svc 83 today ?

SBS6089G.
Just had my virgin ride on the Citaro, I know it's a little late. Hahaha. I took Svc 109 and I think it's 6067? I have to say I'm very impressed with it. NVH were all nicely suppressed. There was close to nil vibration from the engine and the ride is even smoother than my dad's picanto.
The body feels very tightly screwed together unlike the horribly flexing K230UBs. I guess this is why the KUBs are freaking noisy and crashy while the O530 are so comfortable.
But I have to agree with many forumnites here that the aircon is really kinda weak. I took the bus at like 10.30pm. So late in the night and the aircon didn't even felt cold, merely a little cooling. I mean it's comfortable because it's not hot outside. But I can't imagine that kind of aircon temperature during a hot afternoon. Sure gonna swear like a pig.
The body of the Citaro is very nicely done and very solid in feel, and the engine vibrations were marvellously damped. And Voith is as typically smooth. Great choice with regards to its transmission, but I also daresay that the K230UB can easily trounce it downhill on the expressway.
And it doesn't have the rocking-horse effect as bad as the K230UB shows. Soft suspension, but not too soft.
However.
As many pointed out, aircon is lacking. But I'm not too worried about this....SBST had acted on aircon issues on many occasions like when the MKIIIs and LO3X turned into ovens in the early and mid 2000s and now the majority are freezing cold. Same went for the K230UB's rear which was rather hot, they cut a nice hole on each side at the rear for the aircon to flow where it should (but now the seat in the middle is really freezing).
So I have little doubt that they would iron this out pretty soon, and allow me a nice sleep on the bus.
I did not count the seats, but I reckon the K230UB has more seats and definitely has more room to walk up and down. But the Citaro doesn't have the steps in the middle to trip you up. Getting off from the rear was a pain and required much EXCUSE ME SORRY, and contorting body movements though.
The Citaro steps thrown to the seat side...
Yeah....it makes me undecided which is worse, having the steps in the middle, or having to squeeze to make your exit from the rear.
If talk about being practical, I think the K230UB arrangement is better. The aisle is wider and easier to move around. Just don't stand too close to the steps when bus is moving.
At the current moment, the Citaro looks cloistered if you happen to be standing (which is a high chance) and you really have to squeeze to let others through.
Bet Citaro & KUB, in terms of config, KUB win hands down...
B10Ms still the best.

I am not really impressed with Citaro.. It seems to lack of quality control, some problems as listed :
1) Faulty brakes lights
2) Faulty EDS
3) Bell not working
4) Emit large amount of black smokes

Not sure does this apply to SBS Transit...SMRT Citaro rear side blinker lights can be seen from interior.

the rear right side blinker lights is because specifications dictated the light to be positioned higher, probably for easier visibility for these SMRT Citaros when turning right or out of bus bays.

Huh? The aircon of the WEG2 will shutdown when it's stationary? Why is this so? I took it once on 143 and I didn't feel it shutting down the aircon at traffic lights. Or maybe I didn't pay attention? :/
