The Citaro in SBST's fleet the gear is not properly tuned either.. Rpm is likely to be very high than usual at 60km/hr judging by the engine sound...
The FC isn't good either at such occasion, saw before... 2km per lit...

in fact, contary to what people believe, if you keep on 'drag' your gear, the gear will tend not to change at all. It's like why MT vehicles you've to apply cluch and let go of accelerator to change gear.
It's all to do w/ smooth driving that let your pick up be faster.
Well said, ignore those bloody arrogant kids thinking they know everything about buses la bro. They think drivers must floor the acceleration every time and if u do that I'm not surprised all buses will be like Smrt ones with their erratic maintenance.

I find the Citaros for SBST are still good and comfortable and certainly more powerful and better maintained. Air con have seen improvements. And they are much better than the SMRT ones, which are so poorly maintained.
I compared Citaros with some refurbished buses (both SBST & SMRT), I still find refurbished buses better.

You can't compare old buses and new buses anymore. The era of new vehicles is to save cost. using more plastic parts, individual bucket seats, etc. Of course I will prefer SBS's old thick cushion seats than the Vogelstize individual bucket seats. But the era has changed, which has changed for me once since I was young where those more interesting old NAC buses like Volvo B57s, Mercedes Benz OF1413s, Albion Vikings, Leyland Atlanteans have to make way to more standardised air con fleets. When the Citaro was introduced by Daimler Benz in 1997, I always hoped that SBS will bring in a demo or a fleet for such a prestigious bus on our roads. Too bad it didn't materialised. But nevertheless after 15 years of wait, finally the wish come true again with SBST buying 300 of them. Though they may not be the best buses as of now, but I believe SBST will continue to improve them as time pass. Appreciate what we can see on our roads now, because time pass and we may not see them again, especially what is happening to the Volvo MKIIIs and Leyland Olympians.
Ok. I will try to do that. Thanks for the information.

SBS and SMRT will even better when they buy facelift Citaro and Citaro G!!!

BCs only floor acceleration when they are late or trying to overtake, not for fun. And these kids think it is so fun to floor the accelerator to have that shiok feeling, especially those SMRT fan boys. SMRT BCs normally have to floor acceleration of the buses because they have seriously poor schedule planning, not enough buses and the poor BCs have to floor the acceleration in order not to be late and penalised, at the risk and anger of other road users and its commuters.
That's not entirely true.
I used to know this 265 BC more than a decade ago who chronically drags the W3E Merc gearbox.
Anybody who still recalls how the W3E behaves will know its an incredible feat. And even more ridiculous is the fact that he can even do it in those tight little AMK Street.
I also knew of the other 265 BC who chronically drove fast and braked hard.
It came to a head one day when he braked so hard that the engine stalled in front of Anderson Sec.![]()
And seriously, performance of the bus doesn't have such a big difference in travel-time, much less deployments. If the VO3X can be deployed to NUS services, just about any bus can be deployed anywhere.
Certainly the K230UB is also not as slow as many thinks. Heck. As long as I get to my place in comfort and without tortoise pace, anything goes.

No wonder I did not see any VO3X on 95 and 151 as well.

Then you don't want new buses? You can just stick onto the older buses that were fast will do.

Normally SBST BCs drive fast is because they are behind schedule or they are driving the last bus when they want to return bus to depot asap. You said it was a decade ago. Now bus schedules have improved. I doubt he can drive that fast with the schedule. However there are also a few exceptional cases, I once took a Volvo B10M MK4 DM on service 62 in the late 90s, which I think it travel around 80km/h! And service 138 which can be incredibly fast along some roads in Mandai, be it the old O405s or the new Citaros.
I mean....
....how do you actually drag a W3E?![]()
Its just mind-boggling.

I used to be SMRT SL and svc like 67,167,171 65% of d journey has to break the speed barrier..or else you won't get any break time.I used to whack 75kmh on 1 particular O405 on 171 at Mandai Rd
SBS6197C most likely belongs to HG
on 105 today

Yeah how will i ever manage to forget those awesome moments?? ![]()
And certainly yeah very true for what u said in the last paragraph. The kubs can be real fast too.I didnt know that at the very beginning, but after certain rides i have to really admit that they too can 'fly' if really needed.![]()

VO3x ever did 151 before but not very common though.

I think u should get yourself migrate to Europe. I am currently having my vacation in Amsterdam and I spotted several Citaro G bendies plying along Amsterdam city.
If u are there I guarantee u will surely fantasize the Citaro G rides down there...
The O405 original W3E gearbox is one of the most rugged autogearbox in the world.Less problem compared to Allison,ZF or Voith.

Oh. I did not remember any VO3X doing 151 before. Thanks for the information.
