If can, hope SMRT can buy both Bendies and DDs.Win-win solution for services like 190
For SBS SD acquisition, I fully support mass-buying Volvo chassis, preferably with Volgren, Gemilang or Soon Chow bodywork. I find CGDE bodywork too... obscure?
Also, I agree on the 'moar DD', but I don't like the Wrights. Wrights to me look awful. In terms of looks, the Volgren body for the VSO was the best, closely followed by the DM bodywork for the Trident 3s.
We should have full MRT duplication limited-stop/trunk lines. They don't have to be too intense, but they need to be there - e.g. every 15 min at its most frequent. The advantage here is that when the MRT breaks down, we just have to say, 'Pump more buses into routes x, y, z!' and then announce, 'Please proceed to the bus stops/interchange and take bus x, y or z,' rather than kalang kabut like in November.
As for BCs, they're hiring - I've seen a lot of DDs advertising recruitment. They should get more Malaysian Chinese.

No more bendies. They are amongst the worst nuisance on the roads. Its not like our infrastructure has been really designed to accept such buses in the first place.
Agree with you, just look at how many of Singapore's bus bays at bus stops have actually been extended or even newly-built to accomodate 2 Bendys coming at one shot. The bus bays were designed primarily to accomodate 2 12m buses, not 2 Bendies together.
But in all fairness, SMRT didn't do anything wrong. Most of their Bendies were incorporated from TIBS who had ordered them? And the fact that they haven't brought in any Bendy demo since then..
What I want for 800 buses by 2016
For SBS Transit
For SMRT
I prefer double decker 10% more than bendy because it is around 12m in length and around 3m in height and it's space saving than bendys. However, it can't travel under shelters at less than the DD's height.
For bendys, it is longer and it around 18m in length and it occupy 40% more space than rigids and DDs.

Yeah. Most of SMRTB's woes lie with TIBS's acquisitions.
TIBS had a hodge-podge fleet with a huge bendy fleet. Quite a nightmare as far as mainteinance and day-to-day operations is concerned. There too, have been insider stories of how TIBS had been bleeding and the use of accounting tools to transfer losses, but of course that's not verified, but I wouldn't be surprised at that.
SMRT could on the other hand, have taken a decisive step in eliminating these little pockets of here-there-everywhere types. They didn't. And understandably too, given how replacing them would be extremely expensive and hit profit figures. It took many years before SMRT made the OC500 acquisition, during which time, the DAF, Hino, Dennis, Merc, Nissan, Scania (just look at how many types already!) languished.
So whose fault? I am inclined to blame the government although I would think that hindsight is always 6/6 and the government in fairness, has recognised the need to incentivise upcoming bus purchases, although it still remains perplexing that the $1.1b would be a "one-off" exercise.

The unloading of passengers off double deckers are slower than the bendies, in which bendies have 2 exit doors. Of course, both have their pros and cons and people will debate which is better and which. Given that Trans Island/SMRT Buses built their operations around bendy buses over the years, i'd see them probably sticking to bendies in the future.
For fleet replacement, replace VO3x and LO with B9TL Volgren, and B10M MkIV with B7RLE Soon Chow/Gemilang.

Most of the existing infrastructures and passenger demand probably didn't see the need to modify other bus bays.
13 Mar 2013 is the end of 17 years of lifespan for TIB838H, and given that they're refurbishing the bendies for MK 1/2 it's probably going to be extended for another 1-2 years, hence a bendy demo not coming in yet won't be suprising.

A MAN A24 is undergoing bodying at ST Kinetics today. Suspected to be for SMRT as part of the 800 buses.
I don't mind if SMRT gets atleast 100 bendies to replace the box bendies, to boost their fleets.
I believe that the year 2014/15 will be when there is mass replacing of old buses for both bus companies. This is when the SBST's VO3x (Batch 1) and Volvo MK4 (Euro 1 DM/Strider), as well as SMRT's 0405/Scania/DAFs will reach their lifespan of 19 years and they are bound for retirement then.
Wonder which single deck buses will be brought in after the Citaros and MAN A22s...

VO3X and LO replace by Scania K310UD or Volvo B5L. Volvo B7RLE I want MCV Evolution like what KMB have.
2601: Even SMRT's fleet mgmt also ends up wrong bus on wrong svs.
CRLs on heavy loaded 187, 963, 966..
The CRLs ought to be on 77, 173 those lower demand svs.

OK not too bad la ._. I still prefer Soon Chow and Volgren tho
I don't think Citaros are DD-able - that last Merc chassis that was DD-able was the O305, and we all know how long ago that was.
Unless you add an axle.

I believe SMRT will not reply to you like what SMB128B had done before.
Some wishful thinkin of bus fans to replace existing buses with newer types on the market forgetting the cost of purchase.
Totally ignorant of fees/spare parts/maintenance costs
With all the complaints of MB Citaro's capacity, there are still dreamer bus fans wishing for the impossible

Does anyone know how many new buses we can expect to see including the fleet expansions and fleet replacements for the ageing MK4s and VO3X?
If all the 550 new buses from govt are going to be from MAN, then I hope this happens.
SBST
- 200 MAN LionCity or A22 with MCV Evolution body
- 150 MAN double deckers
SMRT
- 100 MAN A22 with current Gemilang body
- 100 MAN double deckers
The rest of the 250 buses
SBST
- 150 Mercedes Benz Citaro 3
SMRT
- 100 Scania K270UB with Gemilang body
- 50 MAN double deckers

No need Darts already. Midi buses are not useful in Singapore now.
SBST needs more buses and new buses.
