The fleet standards?
HAHA
I'll be objective.
SBST moves a lot faster than SMRT despite the huge fleet size when it comes to refurbishing and upgrades and what-nots.
And I duly appreciate that and I didn't complain about SBST requesting for fee hikes.
SMRT? They claimed that they have been "more efficient". And then they asked for fee hike.
At the very least, if no refurbishment or new buses, can't they just clean the bus interior?
If you still think SMRT fleet has "improved", I suggest that you climb out of the well and take SBST buses.
Even the old MKIII puts many SMRT's newer buses to shame. For one thing, at least the MKIIIs don't stink as much!
When the 0405s had their stinky seats changed, I thought the problem would go away.
It didn't.
Why?
Because nobody cleaned the interior!
Who cares about "new buses", or "better buses" when the buses are dirty?
PS: Non-bus fans also have no qualms about SBST's fee hike. Because the change in fleet has been really visible.
I dont deny that SMRT's fleet has improved. But look at the visibility side. Did SBST have to advertise on any of their buses to get their point through? Nope. They simply rolled the K230UB and Citaro out quietly 10 by 10. And people noticed the change and appreciate that.
kinda agree
It used to be that I liked TIBS fleet.
Once the novelty factor wore off, I can empathise with SMRTB being stuck with a hodge-podge fleet of buses and worse of all, bendy buses with little accomodation for them here.
But there's no excuse in cleaning the bus for god's sake.
I've always loved the B10Ms.
The main reason is that the positioning of the engine prevents SBST from removing the seats.![]()
Somehow i think cleaning the interior of the bus frequently may too too much to ask for, but the MOST BASIC, IS TO WASH THE EXTERIOR FREQUENTLY,
i really cannot stand it when SMRT buses, even new buses, Citaros and MANS are dirty like dunno what. You want to buy new buses, please jolly well maintain it, dont let it rot and spoil then spend more money to repair and buy newer ones =X
Improvement my ass,Since SPH take over SMRT buses is like garbage trucks,Maintenance is below average, buses are dirty and even new buses can see engine stress Liao.Thats the price of jeopardize bus maintenance and care.Only think $$$$$ servicing Singtel vehicles etc,Own buses like shit!SBST?Look 1000 over KUBs,Citaros and Wrights. If SMRT still living in their dreamland they can go bust earlier.Stop being arrogant and listen to public.

Actually, I dont mind dirty exterior.....as much as dirty interior.
I dont need a spanking clean interior.
I am asking for one that doesn't stink.
But I really can't imagine what the inside of many of the AC pipes look like for many of the Habits for the entire bus to stink like a sewer. Worst is the UMW Lance. Fabric seats, fabric interior....that's the recipe for dust-breeding....if that's even possible!

ahaha i get what u mean. what im saying is exterior should be more expected to be maintained properly because it is less troublesome and a rather simple job compared to maintaining the interior. Of course, the interior have to at least meet certain standards.
To me, SBST is doing both interior and exterior rather well.. SMRT is a total disappointment =X

Ok, I agree with that, SBST moves in a way SMRT doesn't, Due to their fleet differences, This I'll keep quiet.
More efficient? How 'efficient' you want it to be? Can I ask you?
Fine. The depot staff might not be bothered in cleaning up the buses, Fine, I'll accept that. But to me they don't deploy thrashy buses like they did 1-2 years ago.
Don't worry, I do take SBST buses all along, Since I live in Boon Lay.

After dragging about 8 years, with countless complains, then they decided to clean off most of the insects, change the seat covers, and some refurbishments which are not thoroughly done. 8 long years before doing some bit of improvements, that's really an improvement. Many old buses are still in poor conditions, new buses like the OC 500 are deteriorating, dirty interior, vibrating bodies, cranky suspensions, etc. Another SMRT fanboy who just can't accept facts.
I'm not blind and I can see for myself. If you don't like SMRT why bother taking it's services?
If all you care is just the conditioning of the bus, Why not join SMRT as a mechanic to see if you are 'better enough' to offer advice to these mechanics? I'd like to see you improving on SMRT's already-hopeless fleets. Don't complain so much. If you think you are up to it, Do it - Enough of your countless whacking about SMRT buses. I want to see you on the job someday, and tell me how would you advice the mechs to improve on their fleets?
Fine, I'll concede about SMRT svcs faring outside Woodlands, Yishun, Sembawang and CCK, But have you ever looked at how is it faring in their own district?

Absolutely good question you raised.
That was what I want to know as well.
What kind of efficiency gain did SMRT have the cheek to say it achieved? Lesser beings like you and me won't know I suppose.![]()
In the same vein, I find it absolutely abhorrent that SMRT is also keeping mum about how it came up with a figure of $900M for train upgrade. Its no small sum of money and LTA will have to use OUR money to help out. The least they can do is friggin tell me what is gonna happen to MY dough. Nope. I think that's tall order for them.
Dirty buses will never make for a good ride experience just like how I found the SBST Citaros to give a terrible ride experience initially because of its ultra-weak aircon. Things are different these days with full-blast aircon. Wa shiok.![]()

I'm sorry that you would choose "good" buses over "clean" buses. Because dirty ones will never make for a good ride experience just like how I found the SBST Citaros to give a terrible ride experience initially because of its ultra-weak aircon. Things are different these days with full-blast aircon. Wa shiok.
But SMRT have more comfortable seats and better performance!!!

Chenghu privatised.
They dug this sh*thole for us.
Unless they want us to dig a grave-hole for them, they had better do something at once.

Solution is to buy 800 more Citaro 3 not more crappy buses!!!

" If you don't like SMRT why bother taking it's services?"
You do realise that what SMRT provides is not some exclusive good?
Social contract.
Public obligation.
Do you know what I just said?
So you just basically conceded just about everything that people have told you about SMRTB's bad state. But then you now contest on home ground.
For that, I suggest you refer once again to the words in red. What use is bus co. that runs trunks well only through the north?
I'm no SBST fan.
But I'll be darned that there are people who try to defend the indefensible.
You ask what SMRT could have done to improve the fleet?
Use the capital market and raise funds and chuck the useless buses slowly.
Ask the public nicely for fare hike and show genuine improvement in service.
They didn't. Far from it. The buses were just left to rot.
Now we arrive at a stage where whatever the govt or SMRT does will be perceived as wrong, whether it is or not.
And whose fault is that?
