Originally posted by SBST163:i also observed this. There is always a very long queue at Sengkang Interchange for 163/163M. About as long as 372's.
Most commuters boarding from Sengkang Interchange are only dropping in Sengkang/Fernvale area itself. Hence its only a few bus stops. It is understandable why alot of them chose not to go to the upper deck, they rather stand. =.=
163's main passenger load will pick up from Sengkang West and Fernvale.. then throughout the stretch of YCK road, where it passes by Motorola and Apple and a few other industries.
Then the next wave of passenger load will be at Upper Thomson Road, as it passes by schools like Peirce Secondary School, Raffles Instituition (not directly, but at the side gate) etc.
Therefore 163M is for this purpose. I still do not see a point of placing DDs on 163M because it's underutilising. Passengers dont really wanna move up.
163 DD will be fully packed upon reaching Pei Hwa Secondary.. every bus will be packed, including DD.
I wont be surprised if BSEP Service 50 will ply there to cope with 163's load.
How u know will launch service 50??????

Actually there should be services running parallel to MRT in case MRT kenna breakdown again... Especially NEL...

Did you read the announcement of further development of Punggol and Sengkang towns. Punggol will be divided in 8 sectors for development, of which only 3 are developed currently. Punggol Road will also be closed from Punggol Central and a walkway will be made there with park (route where currently 84 plies).
Similarly, Sengkang development is in final stages and huge complexes are coming up at Anchorvale and Fernvale connecting to Jalan Kayu.
Considering this LTA is preparing for additional bus routes in this area, so I quite believe that both Punggol - Bishan and Hougang - Serangoon route will be routed via these new developments.

119 is catering from Punggol - Sengkang - Kovan
860 is catering from Yishun - Khatib currently.

Service 24
Service 24 is quite common for bunching. Actually most Changi services I feel. 24, 27 - bunching very common. Guess because it is a very long route and there should be a proper terminal at Changi to time the buses properly from there.
We surely have more people on this forum taking SMRT routes. While there are so many pics posted on svc 860 and so much discussion, there is nothing on 119.
No one has posted the pic of 119 also.
Can someone confirm the timings of Wrights on 119 at Kovan MRT? I wish to joyride, explore the loading and take pictures and post.

svc 55 got one more DD. total DDs in fleet = 8. +3 from the number in June.
Like 43, 55 also seems to have become a favorite route of SBST.
With the current double decks, DDs are not suited for short-distance, high-frequency services. If I'm travelling 4 bus stops or taking a 10-minute trip to somewhere, I don't find any incentive to move up to the upper deck.
Current DD has one design flaw: passengers can only board the bus after the stairwell is clear of alighting paseners. Single deck and bendies can do both boarding and alighting simultaneously, DDs cannot. An ideal DD will have 2 stairwell and idealy a 3rd door, but I'm off-topic.
So optimal utilisation? Double decks go to long distance, low fequency services like 74, where journeys take upward of 30 minutes, while single decks supplement these long distance services and also run high-frequency, stop-start services like most feeder routes, where quick stops and short distances are common.
To solve problems before they are asked: Insufficient DDs? Just run single decks in pairs.

Please ignore this post. Another attempt for flame war.

Only single deckers are good for short distance and high frequency bus services. Bendy buses are problematic in busy roads and bus interchanges in Singapore as they take up too much road space and land space in Singapore.
Single deckers are more flexible and easier to schedule for such routes.

The advantage of bendy buses is its short dwell time at stops. Uses more road space too.
Of course single decks are ideal, but bearing in mind that the reason for high-capacity buses is also manpower - one man operating a high-capacity bus over two operating a pair of single-deck ones.
