241 isnt exactly brand new to begin with. Its a split from the old 242. If like that call new then sv 3 38 60 etc are new.

Current 86 actually came from the old service 59 back in the 90s (AMK - Jln Kayu). Renumbered by Tibs to 866 when route extended to Sengkang in Feb 1999, handed back to SBS in Jul 1999 and not long after renumbered again to 86. Those days it had been using SDs.
87 if I remember correctly also used full fleet SDs in the beginning. There were even NAC deployed in the beginning days.
SBS9888Y was new on 87 on its first day.
svc 50 is a full WAB service from Day 1.
9 B9TLs, 6 Citaros

Ha ha. How much training does it take for wheel chair passengers? And u mean all drivers on new services are also new??
Yes, might get declared in next WAB wave for 50 and 116

Not all BC on new services are new drivers. One of sv116 BCs used to drive sv27 for 10 years...

Buses are new only lah... most of the drivers on Sv50 are experience as well. if not how to drive ADDs on the first day? throw a new driver go drive DD on the first day? think panic like mad..

Sunday loading is not a representative. Will share this week loading for full route (hopefully)
should extend the service to whampoa bus terminal instead of ended in bishan the service should pass by toa payoh lor 1 like 59 and turn into toa payoh rise, thomson road and balestier rd and turn in at whampoa market and ended at the whampoa bus terminal. that should be better as people stay there have more option to go to balestier area, thomson area, toa payoh area, Bishan, AMK, sengkang, punggol instead of taking 21 or 88 which from toa payoh, 21 route is too long. and people from whampoa has circle line mrt service and also north-south line.
I am sure the bus service will be full almost every day and also a good idea to tell people who stay in punggol to give up driving as the area this servce passes by do not have any direct service from north east area like punggol and a lot eateries in balestier area.
Think most service 50 drivers(HGDEP) from 163, not new but maybe not all WAB trained nia. Give it sometime, if not they cannot cameo VOs/VSO/DM3500. Don't forget DTs too.

I would say it is new. svc 241 is along Jurong St 63 & Pioneer MRT. 242 never plied through those bus stops. It made sense to shorten the route of 242 because there is a svc 99 in parallel, so changes made to svc 242 didn't upset passengers.

I am not sure if svc 50 should be extended but definitely there is a need for bus service from Whompoa to Northern suburbs. One of the other routes from Toa Payoh can be extended such as svc 163 or even svc 28

svc 50 loading from Bishan to Punggol East
Bus# 3320H, Time: 5.45pm. End time: 6.55pm
Bishan Stn (08), AMK Ave 8 (06), Jubilee (26), ITE (33), Seagate (39), Seletar Heights (29), Fernvale (25), Anchorvale (27), Compass Point (18), Sengkang East Dr (06).
Peak loading was at YCK Road (39pax). I am not sure if the loading at Jubilee would have been higher if there wasn't a 159 ahead.
This was just 2nd day of operation. At Fernvale, many passengers looked at bus with surprise but did not take it, rather waited for 163/163M. I am sure that the loading between Jubilee and Sengkang will go to 50-60 pax in a month's time. It is a very well designed route with minimum parallel option and most people who took the bus were long haul passengers.

The load now is quite good. But it will even be better next year. Nanyang Poly students are having their term break, ITE central havent open. :D

I was observing every 72 towards YCK on AMK Ave 5. It was full to the brim. I can't imagine what will happen when ITE opens next year.
svc 50 is a good alternative to svc 88 at ITE. At AMK station though, people will be confused where to go - whether to take svc 88 from AMK Ave 3 or take svc 50 at Jubilee!
I think 28 is out as it is too long. 50 still the best as most of the links is in HDB towns where family driving cars just to eat and shopping, not just students. Also this service can help to reduce bishan MRT station load by stopping at circle line caldecott station and pick up people there. In fact LTA can extend 163, but need to link to cadecott station and Braddell mrt station as i posted
Guess what I did when I ride on 50 today...
Here is the link.
